Dodge Sprinter owners have reported 8 problems related to wheel (under the wheel category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Vehicle in motion. Progressively worse vibration to the point of requiring a tow. Upon inspection at eddie's truck repair, rapid city, sd found inner left rear ("dual") wheel broken between all holes and slots in center of wheel. No obvious cause. No damage to wheels or tires. All tires properly inflated. All lug nuts tight, properly torqued. Breaks appear new -- no rust. Evidence of broken sections rubbing on each other, had this been a single wheel (not duals) this failure might have resulted in a catastrophic accident. The fact that the outer wheel and tire were in good condition allowed us the time to pull over.

We have had both rear leaf springs fail on this vehicle in last 2 months. The centering pin on leaf spring shears off and axle shifts back to wheel well. This causes vehicle to track at askew on road. I feel this presents a major safety issue at freeway speeds. We have had the leaf fail on 2 of our five Sprinters the other being a 2007 year. Other van has 120000 miles on it. We have never had this problem with other vans of different mfr.
The contact owns a 2007 Dodge Sprinter 2500. The contact stated that the valve stems on all four tires failed. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where it was confirmed that the valve stems needed to be replaced. The failure and the current mileages were 68,000.

2005 Dodge Sprinter (84857 miles) had emergency brake worked on at dealer. Approximately 187 miles and roughly 45-50 hours later the rear wheel on the driver's side of vehicle fell off. Four of five lug bolts were missing. The fifth lug nut was still attached, but badly bent. Head of service department said it was common knowledge that aluminum rims and steel wheels were incompatable and this was the reason for the tire falling off. The Sprinter had been maintained soley by the dealer for ninety percent of it's history covering four years and approximately 80,000 miles. Dealer denied any responsibility for informing me of this potential problem and refused to pay for any of the damage caused by the failure of the wheel. I paid to have steel rims replace the aluminum ones. The aluminum rims, and remaining lug bolts are in my possession.

The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Sprinter 3500. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle wobbled without warning. The failure recurred on several occasions. The contact discovered that the front driver side tire was worn out. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was unable to be diagnosed due to the vehicle being too large to lift. The contact had the spare tire installed and drove approximately 7,000 miles when it was discovered that the spare tire had worn. None of the other tires had worn. The contact also stated that while driving at various speeds and attempting to stop, the brake pedal went to the floor board without warning. The brake pedal was depressed continuously in order for the vehicle to come to a stop. The failure recurred on several occasions. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 12,000.
I have owned this 2005 Dodge Sprinter for over a year and have had 4 flat tires due to valve stem failures (it is sitting in my parking lot right now with a flat front drivers tire) the valve stem bulges and spits out air as soon as I fill it. I can feel the leak and see the stem bulge when try to put air in the tire . I have seen other Sprinters with this problem mercedes recalled 2004 Sprinter for this problem but it is obvious that more vehicles are affected. This is a very dangerous situation if they were to fail on a loaded vehicle at highway speeds.
Original equipment steel wheel on 2004 Dodge Sprinter broke along "spokes". This could be a life threatening condition at highway speeds or in a loaded van. I noticed a noise coming from the wheel and took it to a shop where they could find nothing wrong because the cracks in the wheel are very difficult to detect unless inspected very closely. The wheel that failed was never abused or mistreated in any way prior to failure. I still have the broken wheel if you wish to inspect it. I am now running on the spare. Should I replace all 4 wheels on this van? will the others also fail? are all 2004 Sprinter wheels this dangerous?.
