general problems of the 1999 Dodge Stratus

Three problems related to equipment have been reported for the 1999 Dodge Stratus. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

While driving the vehicle I noticed a very loose sound coming from the lower left wheel. Especially when going over bumps. I took the vehicle to les schwab company for a lookover and found that it needed upper and lower ball joints replaced, a steel arm replaced, as well as an alignment. When researching recalls on my 1999 Dodge Stratus I noticed the problems I was/am having with the vehicle were noted in similar situations involving recalls of other Stratus'. My car should be fixed and included in similar recalls. Thank you.

2 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2009

I was driving the car all day and it began to smoke; which had been an ongoing problem under the hood, a light white smoke as if something was dripping and burning off the engine. Once I parked the car about 10 minutes late the smoke became dark and black and fire erupted. Car was totaled, fire dept was called to the scene.

3 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2004

The contact owns a 1999 Dodge Stratus. The aftermarket floormats rise underneath the brake pedal and catch onto the steering column. While driving between 2-5 mph, the steering wheel locked due to the floormat and the contact could not turn the wheel. The vehicle crashed into his other parked vehicle. The front bumper was damaged. The vehicle was not inspected by a dealer. The contact feels that the vehicle should have a hook installed to prevent the floormat from moving. He did not have any product information regarding the floormats. The failure mileage was 100,000 and current mileage was 160,000. Updated 03-04-08.
