I called to check on the recall status of my car. I went online and there are numerous recalls. The dealership I called said it shows my car has been cleared of all recalls; however, I have never taken my car in to have a recall fixed. Who updates this information?.
After driving my car a friend went outside and seen smoke comming out from under the hood. She called me and I ran to the car and I seen fire under the front wheel's. Friends sprayed water on the hood and I opened it up a little and they sprayed the fire and put it out. By this time the top of the motor was burnt bad. Everything on top needs to be replaced, it was caused by the high presure hose on the powersreering. I found out that it had a recall on the hose so I called Dodge corp. And they gave me a case # and to take it to my dealer so I did. Then the corp. Office called me today and said it's been to long this should have been done by the last oner and hung up. I bought this car oct. 14 of this year and this happend on the 31. How am I to know that this was going to happen in 18 day's. I payed a lot of money for this car and I think. The computer can tell you the recall and how to get it fixed; but you try to find somewhere on here on what to do when there is a recall and it done what it said it would do and you didn't know about it until it did it. I need help I don't have the money to fix it. I took out a loan to get it.

It has recalls and iam going to take it to have it fixed. It also has other problems like with the door locks, the hood and the trunk.

My car leaks water into the passenger compartment when I run defrosters/air conditiioning. I looked this up on line and it is a problem with the drain tube on Dodge/ chrylser car. This is not a recall on my car but a complaint on the car. There is a recall on 2008 Dodge caravans/Chrysler town/countrys. The Dodge dealerships says it cannot help me because my car does not have recall. I have had this problem for over a year. Also on line other people have had this problem also, when you look it up.
I'm not sure what lead up to the failure. I have a bad oil leak I was told it was a rear seal and that it shouldn't go bad I'm checking with you because I don't these things I know I love that car I have a paid out 100's of dollars to get the brakes fixed now this. Are there any recalls for this. I can't drive the car right now because the oil leaks out so bad. I'm just guessing on a date because I'm not sure I would appreciate any information you might have for me I'm unsure of what the mileage may have been when the leak started the car was parked when I noticed a puddle of oil underneath.

1999 Dodge Stratus is making an extremly loud squealing & grinding sound which is coming from the front driver's side. The mechanics are unable to identify the problem. They have checked the brakes, rotors & steering column to no avail. The problem started when turning the vehicle to the right & now is continually making the loud noise when going straight & turning right. It also makes the noise when braking at any speed, slow or 55mph. It does not make the noise when turning left. Any assistance and/or suggestions as to what it might be will be greatly appreciated. It does not feel safe to drive this car & I need it to get to work. Thank you.

I bought the car used from a Dodge dealer with only about 4000 miles on it. A few years later and the clear coat has faded from the hood, roof and trunk. It looks terrible. I've had 2 other black cars in the past: a chevy and a pontiac and neither of them faded one bit. And the chevy was an '85 camaro. Love the way the Dodge drives but it looks very bad.
1998 Dodge Stratus. While driving, a tire recap came off of another vehicle and struck the left side mirror of the consumers vehicle. (ohio traffic crash report).
While car was parked at mcdonalds someone came in saying a gree car was on fire in the parking lot. It was my 2000 Dodge Stratus. Fire was in the engine compartment. Fire department was called and they put out the fire. Noone was in the car at the time. It is believed that the car is a total loss.
Approximate date shown below. Rust along front edge of hood. Clear finish peeling off of spoiler.
While driving at highway speeds the passenger side rear control arm ball joint broke, causing my right rear wheel to collapse within the wheel well of my 2001 Dodge Stratus ES. The consequence of this is that control could have been lost causing an accident harming myself or others on the road. I maintained control of the vehicle and had the vehicle towed off the highway. I then had to again paid for the vehicle to be towed to the dealership for repair.
Paint fade on roof and hood. Clear coat not sprayed on correctly at factory.
Spark plugs continue to misfire after a full tune up. Cylinders are not properly running causing misfire. Car is extremely unefficient.
The floor mat on the driver side, slid forward and became tangled in the steering universal joint. This caused the steering wheel to be hard to turn.
Impressed with the sporty style of my sister's 4-door Dodge Stratus, I purchased one for my wife in 1998 (a 1998 Dodge Stratus). It wasn't long before my sister began having problems with her car. I blamed her and told her that she was too rough on her car (she has a lead foot). My wife and I take very good care of our cars and I was confident we would not run into the same problems. Well, recently I noticed the presence of a small oil-puddle were my wife keeps her car. I learned that the head gasket was in need of replacement. I've yet to have this done but was quoted and estimate of $700-750. The mechanic informed me that this was a very common problem for the Stratus. So common that he predicted the diagnosis before ever looking under the hood. My Stratus only has 55,000 miles on it. Its been well maintained and driven with care. Turns out, my sister had the same problem (head gasket failure) at/near 65,000 miles. In typing the words "Dodge Stratus head gasket" in an internet search many articles, complaints, and reviews noted this all-to common problem. I also learned many of those who have had this failure received zero to little compensation/compassion from the manufactuer for the obvious defect. It appaers Dodge has identified this problem and has re-designed the gasket multiple times. Two seperate mechanics informed me that I can have the gasket replaced but I should expect the problem to happen again soon after. This doesn't seem fair. I understand defects occur but feel people should be compensated when they do. Dodge needs to stand behind their product and admit they are responsible. This defect has led to much frustration. . A response of what I should/can do would be appreciated.
Blown head gasket at 69,900 miles. Leaked oil, never overheated. Possible cracked head.
I have a 1998 Dodge Stratus with a 2. 4l 4 cylinder engine with 86,000+ miles that has recently developed a head gasket oil leak. I am aware that this is a common problem with this engine and the associated TSB(09-05-98). When I noticed the leak, I took my car to the dealer in town and was told that the regional office denied my request for payment of the repair. I did not have the repair done, but got an estimate for $800. Next, I contacted the Chrysler customer service line in detroit, mi. (1-800-992-1997). I was told politely that they would like to help me but that my car was too far out of warranty and that there was no warranty extension for this problem. I asked why some people received assistance for the same problem while others did not, and was told that "this office would not have authorized those payments". I asked for a number or address to make an appeal to this decision and was told that they had already made the final decision, there was no one else to appeal to, and the decision would not be overturned.
My sensors went bad in July 2001. I have reviewed several recalls on the car and none have been replaced. I have warranty on my car, but they are making me pay half (1000. 00) and I shouldn't because there have recalls on fuel line fittings, stearing gear assembly, power train, engine: pulley:crankshaft, brakes. I take my car to get service. The warranty company says, I did not maintain it and they are not responsible. I never received any letters concerning the recalls. I have a lemon and I am not responsible for this. The recalls began 9/23/2001. Jim burke should have never sold me the car. I am highly frustrated. The oil had been leaking out of my car and no light came on. The warranty says I am responsible. I am not.
Rust and paint bubbling on front of hood. I have observed that this is epidemic on Stratus.
Many others have had this problem and chrsyler needs to step up to the plate and own up to this defect. No safety defect listed in summary.

Someone I worked with has the same car (year/model) and had the same problem. I will be investigating this on my ouw as well and contacting Dodge directly. No safety defect listed.
Tachometer stops working and returns to 0 rpm at same time odometer light goes out. Stays that way for periods of one minute to 30 minutes. Then both start working again, with no loss of miles being recorded. Checked fuses and ground wires, seem to be ok. Dealer wants $400+ to check problem. Not safety problem, just inconvenient.

While driving down the road all the sudden oil light came on. Had the vehicle towed to dealer. Dealer was not able to help.
Riding down the road when my "engine check light" came on, I took it to the service department and they said it was my gas cap. I changed my gas cap and the same problem has occurred four times. Each time I have taken to a Dodge dealership service department. They fixed the problem and a day later the "engine check light" comes back on. The last time I took it in for the same problem the service manager said that they can't do anything about it but it is safe to drive. The "engine check light" is still on till this day and it has gone off yet.
Both failures should not have happened on a vehicle 3 years old with 45-50,000 miles.
