Side/rear Glass problems of the 1996 Ford Bronco

Six problems related to side/rear glass have been reported for the 1996 Ford Bronco. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Side/rear Glass problem

Failure Date: 04/13/1998

On two occasions while driving the rear window shattered for no apparent reason. Imploded into vehicle, glass propelled throughout passenger area.

2 Side/rear Glass problem

Failure Date: 10/01/1997

After turning on rear defogger, rear windshield shattered. This was the third time that this incident had occurred. Dealer notified. Consumer states there is a TSB that states the current weatherstrip caused a chemical reaction with the silver in the heating element and replacing the glass only may not resolve the problem.

3 Side/rear Glass problem

Failure Date: 09/02/1997

Consumer was traveling about 15mph on a country road and heard a bang sound like a gun being fired . There was an explosion of glass shattering coming from the rear window, everywhere. Be advised that this incident happened twice.

4 Side/rear Glass problem

Failure Date: 02/27/1997

Whiile driving the vehicle turned on the defroster and the rear window exploded.

5 Side/rear Glass problem

Failure Date: 01/17/1996

Rear window exploded under ordinary driving conditions; no apparent reason; told by dealer, defective glass; speed 55 mph. Tt.

6 Side/rear Glass problem

While parked, with the rear defroster on, the rear window shattered. Cause unknown.
