Steering problem #1

Truck began scrolling warnings that pre-collision braking, hill start assist, forward collision, adaptive cruise control, and more were all not working. Alerts came out of no where while driving on highway and continued every 30 min to hour of drive time. Cruise control was disabled with this failure. Diagnosed with faulty steering-rack. This has been recalled on other 2022 Ford Broncos, but for some reason our was not included in this recall. This lot was clearly impacted as well. The truck is used for daily driving, does not go off-roading and was not involved in any collision or incident that triggered this, simply driving down the highway. Please let Ford know to expand the recall, our car is not safe to drive and is not inoperable unless we pay for the repair or the recall is expanded. Thank you for your assistance!.

Steering problem #2

The steering is unsafe, my neighbor works at a Ford dealership and said it’s the rack, which I also read online that it’s become a common problem, the steering has become very stiff. To the point where I have had to slam on the breaks at curves in the road just to be able to turn into the bend, which has almost caused two incidents.

Steering problem #3

On April 3rd, 2026 my steering started to intermittently lock up on my 2022 Ford Bronco. I immediately took my vehicle to my local dealership where they were able to recreate the problem. The vehicle was also throwing the code u3000:49-8a for steering gear failure. This issue appears to be consistent with the Ford safety recall 23s09. There was no warning prior to the issue. There were no warning indicators once the issue began.

Steering problem #4

I was operating the vehicle on the highway and the steering locked up. I had no indication that this was going to happen. It would not turn and almost caused an accident. I was able to break the steering do to my strength. I was able to limp truck to dealer. Upon inspection they confirmed a faulty / locked up steering shaft. This was not covered by Ford. The shaft was replaced and functional now. I have made several attempts to communicate with corporate Ford about this safety matter and haven’t been heard from. They have had shaft issues with their f150 trucks also. This issue is a direct result from poor manufacturing and is a real safety issue. This should never happen with a vehicle that is only a few years old with not that many miles. I have saved the part for inspection and looking for some assistance. Thanks you.

Steering problem #5

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Bronco. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel locked up. The contact used force while turning the steering wheel to make lane corrections. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the steering gear needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 23v155000 (steering); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to report the failure to the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 29,500.

Steering problem #6

When turning the steering wheel right or left going in a slight decline or incline the wheel seems to lock up or requires a hard pull to move the wheel, its now to the point my wife can no longer drive the car. I have almost run off the road one time and just this morning almost hit my neighbors mail box I am taking the car to the dealer but they say there is no recall, there are certain models of the same year that are being recalled, I think the company, slow in adding models of my type. I have stopped driving the car, hopefully the dealer will fix it. K to the dealer and Ford and both say this problem is not part of the recall. The car has 27000 miles and is 3 years old.

Steering problem #7

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Bronco. While the contact’s daughter was driving at various speeds, the power steering malfunctioned, causing the steering wheel to become difficult to turn in either direction. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000.

Steering problem #8

2022 Ford Bronco outer banks "steering assist fault service required" warning appears on instrument display panel intermittently. When the warning appears power steering does not work.

Steering problem #9

Steering stopped working. Took it to a Ford dealership and they have identified the problem as a broken steering gear. Other 2022 Ford Broncos were recalled for a faulty steering gear, but my VIN was not included. Seems suspicious that the same part breaks for the same year and model. Additionally, the part is on back order at Ford, so there may be a high demand for these parts because other steering gears are failing.

Steering problem #10

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Bronco. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel failed to function as needed. The contact stated that the steering wheel locked seized and the vehicle became difficult to steer. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with rack and pinion failure. The contact was informed that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed that parts to repair the vehicle were on back order. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000. The VIN was unavailable.

Steering problem #11

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Bronco. The contact stated that while driving at 10 mph, the vehicle violently pulled to the left and crashed into a guard rail. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle made abnormal sounds. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that on her mobile app, she was notified that the power of steering assist failed, along with other warnings. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard, and then it was towed to a body shop. A police report was filed. The contact did not sustain injuries. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 7,000.

Steering problem #12

I was attempting a u-turn and the steering ratio was cut short and it locked up briefly.

Steering problem #13

When parking or turning at stop lights periodically my steering wheel will lock up and become extremely hard to turn. I get stuck in the middle of an intersection or a parking lot not being able to turn my wheel. I have had the dealership look at it however they could not recreate the issue. The only warning I can feel is the steering starts to tighten up.
