Power steering went out while in motion in a parking lot. Car was less than 2,000 miles outside of warranty. Poor design of column that had been recalled on similar vehicles caused shorts throughout the electrical system. This resulted in three pages worth of system errors when checked. $2,000 to repair. No shorts since replacement of faulty part.
Upon starting my car, I was aware that there was no sounds--no audio, including warning beeps, gps voice, radio, etc. I went to Ford service and was told it would require testing numerous modules. It was costly, so I opted not to have it checked. The car was unused and in my garage for two days. On the third day when I got in the car, it was completely dead. A towing service came, jump started my car, and I drove it to Ford. I had to leave it overnight. The next afternoon, the Ford service manager told me it started up with no problem the following morning. Service tested everything. There were no faulty codes, no record of a problem. I was given a discount off the full price, although nothing was resolved. On carcomplaints. Com I found that many other owners of the Ford C-max hybrid have had the same problem. Ford has no answers.
The radio will not let me change station, volume, sync my phone for handsfree. When I open the door the radio normal shuts off. However it is just staying on.
Car electronics will not shut off. Radio remains on continuously, even with keys removed and doors locked. No chimes to indicate if car is on/off. At other times, car navigation and electronic systems will fail. Failures and non-response can happen while in motion. Radio not turning off after engine off and parked.
The battery 12v is unexpectedly discharged via the tcu module (modem) gm5z-14g229-bd. The driver can not start the car. The battery was replaced about 8 months ago the mentioned problem remained. The dealer did not comply with TSB 16-0157 and did not replace the defective part. Ford does not see the possibility of repairing the problem. Module number gm5z-14g229-bd. I already had problems twice. Once in the parking lot in front of the house and once at work.
Very loud popping initially. Deafening pops that sound like your windshield was hit with a high velocity object. At first you cant tell where the sound is coming from. It does resemble the sound of a speaker blowing. It does not always occur when the radio or bluetooth audio is being used. In the beginning after it pops the blue tooth will not work for a few minutes to a few days. The sounds are terrifying and distracting. I believe it does place one in an unsafe predicament. You are not sure if you hit something or something has struck you. You feel like your windshield is broken. On other occasion it is clear that the speakers are cracking and again it very loud and dangerously distracting.
We have used the supplied utility 120v charging cable since we acquired the car to charge it at home. Recently, I noticed that the utility cable plug was melted and the weatherproof socket fixture plastic housing was burnt I changed the unit to a different outdoor outlet. It burned that outlet so badly that it's gfci was tripped and could not be reset. Fearing a possible house fire, I stopped using the cord. I reported it to our Ford dealer as a hazardous product defect. Out of warranty was the reply. I do not know where the electrical rate limiting circuitry is in the system, but I strongly suspect that during charging, the car now draws more wattage (1600-1700w, less than a powerful hairdryer) than the cable unit is rated at (1440w, per it's labeling), and this discrepancy over many many hours of continuous load has led to the failure. The service manager at the dealership said this was the third such failure he has personally seen. That is one dealership out of the nationwide Ford network, implying 1000's of these failures may have occurred. It is a very serious condition, which could lead to a house fire and should be investigated and recalled, in my view.

Cmax melting plug the 120 volt, 12 amp charge cord that came with my car is overheating creating a fire hazard. The end of the cord that plugs into the wall has melted and left burn marks on three different electrical outlets in my garage where I plug the car in to charge. I put in a dedicated 20 amp line and plug due to this problem in August. The plug still burned and melted. I have photos of the outlet and plug. I made Ford aware of the problem and advised via. Ford ev help line case # cas-13607255. I am taking the car and charger into Ford on Monday coming 11/27/17. This problem with the cord has been going on since 2013. I thought it was my plug. It is not.
My car has been completely electrically dead approximately 4 times. When it is fixed it eventually happens again. I have to use the key in the key fob to open the car and when I push the start button it doesn't start. The batteries in the key fob are not dead. It is very worrisome to not know if my car will start. This happens in a parked and turned off situation.
Third time, electrical components were acting wonky (radio, no controls worked, no shut off, not turning off when door opened, after car turned off, phone part of sync didn't work), then, not sure when, but, after parking in driveway, and not driving for a day or two, car was dead, no response to fob, wouldn't start. Each time, dealership has told me they've fixed it, but, it happens again. Very irritating, to never know for sure, if I'll have a working vehicle. I have also experienced having the windows roll down, all at once, car was off, I'd pressed fob to lock doors. There are many complaints about these problems! Ford needs to figure out what is wrong! I am disabled, no one to help. A dead car is a very hard thing for me to deal with.
When vehicle is locked, windows will roll down by themselves.

We stopped at a stop sign before taking a left turn on to texas 77, when I started the gas motor failed to start but the electric carried us forward to the center line. A warring came up a triangle with ! tell us to stop but of course we were on the center line. An 18 wheeler was coming fast behinds us and was able to pass on the wrong side of the road as no cars were coming. Could have been a mayor accident. I have but told by Ford dealer that the gas motor which cycles off did not start. This is the second time this has happened. . As of today they can't find anything wrong. I an afraid to drive this car even though I like it very much.
