Recall number18s24 my car had 3 recalls so I contacted the legacy Ford dealer in mcdonough on [xxx] and made an appointment on [xxx]. When we brought the car, dealer didn't fix the recall above saying they didn't have parts even though we made an appointment over 2 months before. They told us they will let us know when they gets the parts, but it's been over 2 weeks and they don't contact us or respond any of our email. And since we brought our car to dealer, the car stop charging from charging cord. They said they didn't do anything about that and if we want diagnostic, they will charge for $150. I just wanted to fix all of the recall so I bought the car but feel like I just brought it to break my car. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

I bought this vehicle in 2018. For the next 6 years, I lived in an area where I was unable to plug it in to a wall to charge, so used it as a hybrid. Now, I have a house and when I plugged it in for several hours, it melted the plug and nearly started an electrical fire. Upon further investigation, I found the serial number to the charger that was included with purchase as the factory-issued charger, matches a known recall due to fire safety hazard, but my VIN does * match the recall. At the time of purchase I was informed the charger was not the factory original but "everything would be okay. " I have contacted the dealership that sold it to me and they won't take responsibility for not only selling me a faulty piece of charging equipment, but also failing to inform me about a recall that impacted it, and only through sheer luck and me noticing the outlet was starting to melt, it didn't start an electrical fire in my house. Ford also refuses to take responsibility for it. My local Ford dealership confirmed that it's a recalled charger, but also said they can't process the recall because my VIN doesn't match it, and confirmed it was not the correct charger to be sold with that car. I already had the electrical outlet replaced, and didn't realize at the time that there may be a recall issue with the charger, but the charger is visibly scorched and melted and I can also get the statement from the electrician that the outlet was scorched. I can't afford to replace the charger, and Ford refuses to help me correct their mistake - which was both expensive and created a serious safety hazard for me. Note: file upload feature is not working, but I have photographs of the melted charger and it's serial number.

The vehicle accelerate on its own accord, despite no foot or pressure to the accelerator, even going uphill and including after braking. For example, ona flat road, I stepped on the brakes and began to decelerate, I released the brake and the vehicle immediately began to accelerate forward at a high speed. I had to slam the brakes to prevent further movement. This is one of many instances, the most common of which is acceleration upwards of 10-15mph after the accelerator is released. It appears as if the accelerator remains pressed forward, I can feel the accelerator move back into place significantly later than when I remove my foot. I fear for my life and safety, and that of others. The vehicle is available upon request. I have not gone to a dealer or service center. The vehicle has not been inspected, but I have read similar reports online. There were no warning lamps or messages, but the issues began October 2022, and have increased in frequency since.

Recently, there has been a whiff of gasoline around my garage but there is more than one vehicle in there so I didn't figure out what the culprit was for a while. After completely filling up my car 9/3/2022, I parked it in the attached garage and in minutes my whole house smelled like gasoline. So I immediately parked it outside and ventilated the house. I took the car to a local shop and they said yes there's a gas odor but they didn't want to touch the repair because it's a hybrid. So all this time later on 9/14/2022, the Ford dealership saw the car and stated that it requires immediate repair and park it outside while we wait for parts. My C-max has always gotten regular normal maintenance like oil changes and brakes, it got new tires recently. There was one major repair Ford did when the car was assembled incorrectly at the back hatch hinge seal so water was pouring into the circuit board and the battery compartment which screwed up the electronics, and the touchscreen needed replaced, but that was over a year ago and the car has been ok since. It has never ever been wrecked beyond little dings like shopping carts. It makes absolutely zero sense that the car would require this major repair at 82830 miles, and it's going to cost me $2400 which blows my mind. And it's dangerous! now it has the doom vibe of a pinto. I am extremely concerned for other C-max owners.

Vehicle shuts down while driving on the road/interstate. This is a vehicle with a plug-in battery propulsive system. Has happened 4x this year. Twice on I-96 in michigan this past weekend and 2x locally. Happened when switching from drive mode "auto" on the dash to "ev later". Get all kinds of warning lights and the dreaded stop safely now warning. May be related to wire to hybrid battery pack and/or heat of battery pack.
Charging cord overheated and melted at the plug. Recall in place on this item, but Ford specifically mentions in recall to ensure charging cord is plugged in to dedicated and undamaged/non corroded outlet (it was-until after event) and not attached to an extension cord (it was not).
Unintended acceleration. I was coasting to a stop for a red light and the car started to accelerate on its own. Jamming on the brakes stopped the car. One of time I was trying to back out of a parking spot and then I put the car in reverse and pressed the accelerator nothing would happened, so I put the car back it park and then back into reverse and still nothing. Next I shifted into drive and the car still wouldnt move when the accelerator was pressed. I put the car in reverse again and pressed the accelerator to the floor and after a second or two the car when flying backwards and I quickly jammed on the brakes.
Intermittent inability to control speed. Finally got an error code of p2112 (throttle actuator control system) while in motion and vibration because the battery does not engage properly.

Push to start / stop button fails to shut off vehicle. Vehicle is stationary and in park. Unable to secure vehicle, unable to lock doors unable to turn off lights, unable to shut vehicle down. Each time push to stop pressed vehicle starts again, dash flashes Ford logo. If you walk away the car honks horn. Vehicle located at parking garage lloyd center. Problem similar to recall 15v436000 and Ford recall 15c06. Car shut off has happened several times in the past.
On 12/20/2017 at about 8:30 pm on route 139 (highway) east bound, after stopping for a red light, I tried to accelerate but the vehicle propulsion shut off. No warning lights or engine light came on. I had to place gear in park, and restart vehicle. This happened again on 12th street in jersey city, NJ before I was able to park less than a mile away. In the morning I was attempting to bring it to wayne Ford at 444 route 46, wayne , NJ 07470, when the vehicle shut off in the middle of a intersection. On route 1(highway) in jersey city, NJ. Again I had to place vehicle in park and restart vehicle. This occurred multiply times before I finally arrived at the dealership, fortunately the vehicle only stopped again on local roads ans not on the highway of route 46 or route 3 which I had to use to get to this location. . I explained to the repair person my vehicle shut down while in motion as I pressed on the accelerator, once while turning, always when in motion. Also asked that all recall items of this vehicle be corrected at this time too. As of this date 1/01/2018 wayne Ford has yet to tell me what the problem is or when my vehicle will be repaired.
Electric charger melted and started a small fire at the house outlet. It must have tripped the circuit breaker luckily saving our home. Ford refused to accept responsibility when it happened telling me it was my wiring. Now there is a recall?.
Received a "stop safely now" dash indicator light while driving on a city street approaching an intersection. Car began losing power and I applied the brake to stop prior to intersection. Placed the car in park and attempted to turn vehicle off, but car did not respond or power down. Accessory items were still functioning in car, but unable to get the car to switch into gear and drive. Eventually, placed the car in neutral and pushed vehicle into a parking lot. After 10 minutes I was able to turn the car off and on, but still unable to get the vehicle to go into motion. Having vehicle towed to Ford dealership.
The portable charger wall plug melted while charging. The plastic melted and was too hot to touch. This was after two hours of charging an empty battery. Ford is not replacing it under warranty, is it is just outside 3 years.
Vehicle is not holding ev now/later modes causing unexpected battery usage and fuel consumption. An example is traveling highway speeds (70-75 mph); vehicle will unexpectedly switch into auto mode and revert from gas/hybrid performance to electric/battery only performance which is reduced power and response again at highway speeds. This is not always the case as I have found this to happen before I enter the highway and can adjust my drive accordingly. Additionally, this happens in ev now mode which holds the electric engine to prevent gas use at all but the system will inadvertently switch to the auto mode. Condition is extremely sporadic and difficult to replicate most times will happen without throwing a check engine light code. Fortunately I do have a few instances where a code was thrown and I was able to have the dealer take a look and make some warranty repairs none of which have resolved the issue as it still comes back in the same random form. Attached are the several dealer visits to address the concern and after several visits, the transmission pump module seems to be a repeat issue. Unfortunately not sure if this is the cause of the modes not holding as it should.
My 2013 Ford C-max energi produces a "stop safely now" warning message and quickly loses all power. It has happened 4 times in the last 3 days. When it happens, you have to pull to the side of the road, turn off the engine, open and close the door and wait a few more minutes before it can be started again. A warning light is left on for ~25 miles. It always happens when driving at freeway speeds on all electric. I have never seen this failure once the main battery is discharged and the engine is running on gas.
I was driving in the middle lane of an expressway traveling at 70 mph when a red warning displayed on the left side of the driver's screen: "stop your car safely and get off the road" (or words to that effect. The engine had cut out and my car was operating solely on the battery. There were vehicles traveling at the speed limit in each of the outside lanes. Luckily I was able to pull over to the left shoulder at a break in traffic. Soon the battery gave out--charge indicator showed no charge left. I called aaa to tow the car. After I called for the tow, I tried the start button (~15" after shutdown, and the (gas) engine started and began to charge the battery, and I was able to drive the car to the local Ford dealer. The "hybrid specialist" found that "something" had happened, but I was told that they couldn't find out what happened. They drove the car to see if this would happen again, but it ran well, and continues to run well. I had about 30k miles on car when this happened. I felt fortunate that this happened at night at a time when the traffic was lighter than what it would be during daylight. I believe that I narrowly escaped a serious crash, and I have not been driving on expressways, fearing the possibility of another incident. I am very angry and I don't know what to do at this point, other than to sell the car. Attached is service report from dealer.
