Vehicle Speed Control Problems of Ford C-max

Summary of safety issue the vehicle repeatedly experiences sudden loss of propulsion while driving, accompanied by a “stop safely now” warning message and various other dashboard warnings . During these events the accelerator pedal becomes completely unresponsive while the vehicle remains powered, indicating a failure of the hybrid propulsion system or high-voltage battery control system. The vehicle and video footage of the failure are available for inspection upon request. Timeline of events January 13, 2026 – the vehicle displayed a “stop safely now” warning message and lost the ability to accelerate. The vehicle had to be towed to lehighton Ford. January 21, 2026 – paid $866. 85 for repairs including battery service, rear control module replacement, and pcm harness repair. Lehighton Ford stated the vehicle was repaired and safe to drive. Within minutes of leaving the dealership, the vehicle stalled again in active traffic and had to be returned. The issue was escalated to the Ford engineering hotline and a field service engineer. February 17, 2026 – the dealership attempted to return the vehicle after performing a becm reprogramming. Upon pickup, new issues were immediately observed including near-stall conditions and hybrid system malfunction, so the vehicle was left with the dealership again. February 18, 2026 - the owner brought forth concerns about Ford’s technical service bulletin (TSB) 17-0015 which identifies potential damage to the traction battery interlock harness as a root cause for intermittent stalling and "stop safely now" warnings. Although the dealership recorded diagnostic trouble code b11d8—a fault directly related to the stall condition—the dealership later stated that no diagnostic codes relevant to the TSB were present and this component was not inspected. February 20, 2026 - dealership claims that the vehicle has been test-driven for over 100 miles and is “functioning perfectly” and that a ‘battery rebalance’ was causing the issues experie.

My 2014 Ford cmax energi is unable to exceed 80 mph. This is due to Ford mykey systems not allowing other keys to be made for the vehicle without restrictions being applied. Because I had to get a new key made, my car now is unable to go over 80mph. In arizona, the flow of traffic is quick and intense. I am unable to reliably drive on the freeway because of how my car is restricted. Ford refuses to do anything about it.

While driving the dashboard instrument panel beeps and flashes the word "put in park" and "stop safely now", and the speedometer stops working, all kinds of warning lights start flashing on and off on the instrument panel, the heater goes on and off on it's own, then the instrument panel goes black, speedometer shows zero and car goes into shutdown mode. I was put in risk while driving without a speedometer and other vehicles near me were put into risk; when I pull over and stop the vehicle it strands me and I need a tow. This has happened randomly many times; I took it to Ford for repair, they didn't know how to fix the problem, my car was at Ford for 6 weeks! and I was without a car all that time, now 3 months later it's doing the same thing! I have videos of it happening along with the pictures I'm posting here, it is very scary when it's happening while driving and it's scary being stranded in unsafe places having to wait for a tow. This issue is unresolved and dangerous, I need Ford to get more involved.

The wrench ?? light came on in my car. And when I put it in drive the car took off without me putting my foot on the gas. And it was like I had no control over the gas pedal. I tried hitting the brakes and it was still wanting to accelerate.

Car accelerated by itself in drive. I'd to either apply brake or put the car in neutral to stop it. When shifted back to d, it auto accelerated. After I got home, shut it off and after 10 min. It started working normally.

I pulled over to take a phone call. The car was in park but idling. When I finished the call, I put the car in drive and released my foot from the brake. The car began to accelerate as if I was pressing the accelerator, but I was not. I checked the make sure there was no obstruction near the pedals. There was nothing there, no random object, no floor mat, nothing. I tried to release my foot a few more times and it continued to accelerate without any pressure on the accelerator. I put the car in park, noticed there was a wrench image lit up on the dash and then turned off the car. When I started it again, the wrench was gone and the car drove normally. I called the service center to make an appointment to have the car looked at. The earliest appointment is in 19 days.

The contact owns a 2015 Ford C-max. The contact stated that upon shifting to park, the vehicle accelerated forward. The vehicle ran over the curb and crashed into the handicap sign. The fuel tank detached during the crash. There were no warning lights illuminated. The fire department was on the scene. A police report was filed. There was no reported fire, air bag deployment, or injury. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. . The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.

Turned the car on in a parking lot and saw the check engine light was on. Had totally lost power steering and acceleration, and braking was extremely difficult. Rolled down the parking lot and was able to stop the car with the parking brake and turn it off. Turned it back on and the power steering and brakes and accelerator were back. Drove the car home and tried turning it on and off a few more times. Power steering seems to be completely gone. Check engine light is on.

While driving, the car stalled and displayed a message that said to slow down and pull over safely. The driver was not able to accelerate. There were no other warning signs prior. This was particularly dangerous because it occurred while driving on a highway.

Uncommanded acceleration. The car accelerated to above highway speed, and required continual breaking to maintain control. When home and in park, engine continued to rev to max. Shut car down, and when restarted it returned to normal operation. No obstruction of gas pedal.

The car was in acceleration mode at every speed on the highway, residential streets, at stop signs, always exceeding the speed limits. I continually braked to maintain control. Tires squealed when I released the brake at stop signs. There was nothing under the gas pedal. I didn't dare drive into the garage; the car would have been in the kitchen. When I put it in park, engine still revved.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford C-max hybrid. While the vehicle was stationary, the battery saver warning indicator turned off and the following message displayed across the instrument panel: "911 assist is disabled, contact dealer". Immediately afterwards, the shifter indicator displayed on the instrument panel. The contact turned the key in the ignition, but the motor did not indicate that it was ready to drive until approximately one minute later. The contact placed the shifter into reverse and attempted to reverse, but a sudden loss of power steering occurred. The contact placed the vehicle in the drive gear and depressed the accelerator pedal in an attempt to stop the vehicle; however, the vehicle accelerated beyond 35 mph. The contact attempted to stop the vehicle by depressing the brake pedal, but the vehicle would not stop. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to bob moore Ford (8948 s I-35 service rd, oklahoma city, oklahoma 73159) where it was diagnosed that the inner cell of the battery was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 73,000.

Received a letter from Ford although Ford is not calling this a recall I believe it is pretty serious. This if for the customer satisfaction program;17b28 Ford is saying the electronic throttle body may develop contamination and may result in the vehcile entering a protective low-speed mode which can be dangerous if this happens on the highway. I called my local dealer and they are saying that the the next appointment for this fix is not until August 2018! I think this is a pretty serious problem that Ford should fix right away. I have not had any issues however I have read from some people that this has happen on their vehicle in which their car dropped to 5mph.

While driving on the highway, a warning light came on instructing me to pull over to the side of the road and stop. When I did pulled over, I set the gearshift in "park" mode, and turned off the car. I restarted the car and didn't have any more problems that day. Subsequently, I noticed that whild driving down the road the engine ( both electric and gasoline) shut off suddenly and I lost all power momentarily, then turned on as if nothing was wrong. The car has been doing this more and more frequently lately and I discovered that when I position the gearshift just past the drive mode, the problem stops. In other words, when the gear shift is set just past park, the car never loses power. When I took the car in for repair in January 2015, I was told that the gearshift was not covered by the warranty and furthermore the part is not available until the beginning of March (it's on backorder).

2014 Ford C-max. Consumer stated when he removed his foot from the accelerator, to slow down and stop at a traffic light, the vehicle did not slow down. The consumer tried to depress the brake pedal, but could not and consequently hit another vehicle. Updated 12/14/jb.
