Tire Tread/belt problem

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Crown Victoria. The vehicle has goodyear eagle LS tires, size p225/60r16. While driving 55 mph, the contact heard a strange noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. He lost control of the steering wheel and almost crashed. He pulled over and noticed that the rear passenger side tire had completely shredded off. There is approximately an inch of rubber remaining around the diameter of the tire. Emergency roadside service placed a spare tire on the vehicle. He went to the Ford dealer and was informed that they were not responsible for the failure with the tires. The contact was advised to call goodyear; however, he emailed them and was informed to give them a call. The failure mileage was 6,450. Updated 09/15/08 updated 09/19/08.
