Failure Date: 01/08/2023

My 99 Ford Crown Victoria lx has front end issues. I have had to replace the ball joints about 4 times every 2 to 3 months because the front end keeps dropping. I'm not sure if you guys know about this but I've spoken with our local Ford mechanic and a few friends who have Crown Victoria's as well and said that it has been a big issue with them along with the electrical components for the turn signals.

10 Equipment problem of the 2002 Ford Crown Victoria

Failure Date: 12/30/2014

I had driven up a steep mountain dirt road to serve some legal papers, after reaching the top, I continued down the other side to the address I was looking for. I thought I started smelling something burning, it smelled electrical. When I arrived at the address, I stopped the car and shut it off while I was speaking with the resident. My wife yelled at me that the car was on fire, it started filling up with smoke fast, my wife and dogs were still in the car. I opened the drivers door to pop the hood while my wife started getting the dogs out, I then noticed it was my floor that was burning, just about under the gas peddle, a hole had burned through and the metal was glowing red where the padding had burned away. I poured a cup of coffee to put the fire out while the resident got some water for me. The padding and rubber mat had burned away and a hole about 3 inches long had melted away from the floor board. The catalytic converter is directly beneath the hole but there doesn't seem to be any holes in the converter and there is a empty space about 1. 5 - 2 inches from the melted hole to the converter. We let everything cool down before driving home, however the entire way home, (49 miles) we were afraid the car was going to burst into flames. Once we were back on the paved roads and were able to drive the normal speed limit, there were no more issues nor any further burning, just the lingering smell. I looked up and found a recall for an issue in the same location however that was for 2003 - 2005 vehicles.

15 Equipment problem of the 2009 Ford Crown Victoria

Failure Date: 03/31/2014

Intake manifold is subject to extremely high temperatures. Ford's current design includes a plastic intake manifold that is susceptible to warping and may cause engine failure if coolant looses pressure due to leak.

16 Equipment problem of the 1999 Ford Crown Victoria

Failure Date: 03/25/2014

My name is david winebrenner and my Ford Crown Victoria has a problem with the rear axle assembly the c-clip keeps falling off the axle shaft and I think this should be a recall I'm not sure how many other people experienced this problem but I am and the rear end is too expiencive to repair and I think this should be admitted to Ford because the axle shaft is faulty and the differential 3:55 is a bad concept on my car I don't speed or beat my car down or dog it out I drive the speed limit and use the car as supposed to and the other problem is the car has random misfires as well the problem I insist of complaining of can cause an accident or worse and I feel Ford should recall the car for this major problem please contact me if you can have something done about these problems.

17 Equipment problem of the 2003 Ford Crown Victoria

Failure Date: 12/14/2012

Investigated rear end noise. Both axles have extreme ware . Bearing failure. And must be replaced. Ford recalled only police and commercial p70 p71 and p72 by order of NHTSA. Ford new all models experienced this failure as identified in TSB 030505a issued 3-5-03. My Ford cv a p74 model was made 11-05-02. Only a silent recall. And not now honored after normal wrty expires.

18 Equipment problem of the 2004 Ford Crown Victoria

Failure Date: 04/15/2012

Driving s on m-10 from I-94 to I-75 entrance ramp. I entered the ramp at 25- 30 mph when the steering locked up, I could not turn the wheel. Before I knew it I hit the curb and then rolled over approx. 3 times down an embankment and finally hitting a concrete barrier which stopped the car. After the accident the heat shield from the drivers side exhaust manifold was found under the car, you could see it rusted off and you could see the marks on it where it jambed the steering shaft and the engine block (still have the part). Because of the cost cutting in materials in the manufacturing of this heat shield out of sheet metal and not out of stainless steel it is the cause of this accident. Now because of this inferior design and the accident it caused, I'm dealing with tbi, ptsd, pba, neck injury, lower back injury (which is affecting my legs making it difficult to walk). A few days before the accident I graduated with a bachelors degree in marketing, but now because of my injuries I am unable to work. This needless accident has caused me financial hardship, I lost my home, unable to pay my student loans, unable to pay my bills. This all stems from someone at Ford's deciding to cut costs in the manufacturing of the heat shield out of sheet metal instead out of stainless steel. Ford should have realized that a majority of these Crown Victoria's are owned in areas where salt is used in the winter. You would think Ford's being located in dearborn, michigan would use common sense in their design of this part, knowing salt is heavily used in snow removal in michigan. They saved a few dollars, but in doing so they ruined my life !! I just wonder how many accidents where caused by this poor design? I wonder how many other lives have been ruined and don't realize it was caused by this defected design. I was just lucky to find the part to show what caused this accident. . . Updated 05/20/14.

19 Equipment problem of the 2003 Ford Crown Victoria

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

I saw similar reports of this failure and decided to add to the # of complaints, as I experienced this, too. Upon acceleration up a hill, air flow through vents (a/c or heat) would stop and go to defrost, then return after car began "cruising" again. Over time, air flow defaulted to always being defrost. (I had heard that this default position upon failure was a safety mandate. ) without a recall, the cost was fully mine, so I considered alternatives. A dealer service for this problem (replace the dashboard's electronic automatic temperature control unit or "eatc") would have been megabucks (I heard $800 for the unit, itself) for parts and labor. A rebuilt eatc by mail order (rebuild mine or swap for mine) would have been $250-400 for the part alone. The problem is failed original o-rings on the vacuum actuators within the eatc; not a dealer-offered repair. I repaired it myself. I ordered 5/52" id x 9/32" od silicone o-rings (4 needed, 1 for each actuator) and replaced them on the nozzle of each vacuum actuator, reassembled and remounted the actuators, reconnected the vacuum hoses and reinstalled the eatc unit into the dashboard. After more than 3 years, the eatc now continues to operate properly. Cost of parts (o-rings, silicone spray and dielectric grease) was about $30 and 1 1/2 hours of my time. It appears to be an extremely common problem with a simple, albeit very expensive, correction, if done by the dealer.

20 Equipment problem of the 2000 Ford Crown Victoria

Failure Date: 12/01/2005

My complaint is in regards to my employer. I am a police officer and I think the vehicles we are using are being made unsafe by the addition of extra equipment. The dept. Has added computers, shotguns that are mounted overhead and causing officers to hit there heads, not to mention what might happen if one is involved in an accident. They have also shut off are air bags, because the computers are side mounted and are not air bag compatable. They have also installed video cameras and radar units that hang from rearview mirrors. These mounts are not secure and often fall off. I have complained to my bosses and union reps. No one cares, in fact I was told "the dept. Does not taylor make police cars. " several officers have already hurt themselves on these extras. I just want a safe vehicle. I do not no who else to turn to. I have also lodged a complaint with osha. Please advise.
