The contact owns a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria. The contact stated that he worked for a company that had six Crown Victorias and one Ford mustang. The gasket had to be replaced on the fuel tank from the filler pipe. When he filled the vehicle with gasoline, fuel would leak out on top of the hot exhaust. The contact noticed a trend and the company replaced the gaskets on seven vehicles. He is currently waiting for the part for the seventh vehicle, which is on backorder at every dealer in atlanta. He has not consulted the manufacturer. The current mileage was 120,457 and failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

I recently spent over $1,000 having the engine check light fixed along with other repairs. I took the car back to super lowe Ford several times after I purchased it because the light stayed on. Super lowe said it was "gas cap is loose" and "it's a short, we can disconnet it if you want us to" etc. It would be off for a few days, then right back on. I was also informed that it really doesn't mean anything, just don't drive in California. Why does the light stay on?.

The fuel filler tube has a flap in it where the tube connects to the tank to prevent spillage in the event of a collision or upset. The flap has stuck in a partially open position causing the fuel not to flow freely into the tank. In this open position, the flap does not do it job of keeping fuel in tank. Therefore in the event of an overturned vehicle the fuel would leak out creating a fire hazard.

The fuel filler tube has a flap in it where the foller tube connects to the fuel tank. The flap is there to prevent spillage in the event of collision or upset. The flap has stuck in a partially open position preventing free flowing of fuel. In addition, in the event of an upset, the fuel would flow out of the tank creating a fire hazard. Inasmuch as safety is involved, I believe Ford motor company should issue a recall.
I have noticed on several occasions, when beginning to fuel the vehicle, when the fuel cap is removed there is a decrease in engine power. On the date reported when the fuel cap was removed, the engine stopped.
