1 Seat Belt problem of the 2001 Ford E-350

Failure Date: 05/08/2018

The driver's side seat belt randomly comes unlatched. This has happened before this date and happens multiple times each time it is driven. It does not matter if the vehicle is in motion or not. It has happened sitting still in the driveway and at highway speeds. This is a trw 33012760 part.

2 Seat Belt problem of the 1997 Ford E-350

Failure Date: 01/31/2018

This year both the airbags in my 1997 Ford e350 van have spontaneously deployed on two separate occasions--each occurring while the van was in 'park'. On 1/31/18 the driver's bag deployed when the van was warming up in a parking lot. My adult daughter started the van, plugged her phone into the top car adapter, and about a minute later (the van was still parked) there was a big 'boom' from under her seat and her seatbelt tightened. With the seatbelt still on, she leaned to her right to see what was causing the smoke from under her seat when suddenly the driver's steering wheel airbag deployed. Thankfully she was spared any injury. She had the van towed to a Ford dealership, but they could not diagnose the root of the problem so I did not have them do any work on it [they wanted to replace the airbag and a few other things which I felt was a 'band-aid' solution since they admitted they were guessing]. We drove the car home. On 4/13/18 my adult daughter was sitting in the first bench row in the van to have a quiet place to talk on the phone. After a while on the phone, she plugged her phone into the same charger and less than a minute later the passenger airbag exploded. This occurred in my driveway when there was no key in the ignition and no one was sitting in either front seat! again, my daughter escaped injury, but now the van will not even start. At this point, my local Ford dealership (a different one) and my personal repair shop are refusing to touch the van because of potential liability regarding this kind of malfunction. My insurance can't help because the van was not in an accident when the airbags deployed and "electrical and mechanical malfunctions are excluded from comprehensive coverage. " Ford customer care service has told me repeatedly that they don't have a protocol for this and there is nothing they can do to help me.

4 Seat Belt problem of the 1997 Ford E-350

Failure Date: 10/05/2017

My vehicle had been parked for about three or four weeks and I went to start it up to run the engine and charge the batteries as I did not plan to use it for another few weeks. When I turned the key the driver side airbag deployed and hit me hard. Also the passenger side seat belt buckle pretensioner fired off breaking the housing. The vehicle was stationary before, during, and after the incident. There has never been an accident and I can see no damage to the outside at all. I have contacted Ford and they will not assign a case number until it is inspected and checked by a Ford dealer. The closest Ford dealer that said they were capable of doing this is booked up and can not look at it for two weeks and they did make an appointment for 10/25/17. The dealership is about 35 miles and I will have to drive it there with the airbag hanging out of the steering wheel. I am so thankful this happened while parked in storage and not on the highway as I the result may have been fatal to my self and/or others. My injuries are some bruising, headaches, and a sore neck. The miles I entered are approximate, I will verify the exact number later.

5 Seat Belt problem of the 2009 Ford E-350

Failure Date: 07/16/2014

This is a 2009 15 passenger church van with 17000 miles. The van is meticulously cared for and maintained inside and out. The vehicle is lightly used. It was discovered during a pre-trip inspection that the right side, 3rd row passenger seatbelt that should be attached to the frame of the vehicle (above the passenger's shoulder) was disconnected. Further inspection showed that the threading of the bolt and the threading to the corresponding nut welded to the frame was stripped smooth. There was no other evidence of damage to the area surrounding the stripped parts (I. E. Damage to interior molding, fabric or the seat belt webbing and hardware. ) the damage seen on the bolt is consistent with a bolt that has been over torqued or cross threaded. This is clearly something that has occurred in manufacturing. A Ford dealership in hagerstown, maryland has inspected this and concurs that the bolt was over torqued or cross threaded.

7 Seat Belt problem of the 2007 Ford E-350

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

On 2007 Ford e350 ten passenger van seatbelts continuously fall down through the seats. This is a serious safety issue and should be recalled for repair. This is an issue on every one of these vehicles. It is very, very difficult to fix these belts after they have fallen through the seats. A better system is needed to keep these seat belts in place. I have reported this issue to Ford and have received no help from them.

8 Seat Belt problem of the 2006 Ford E-350

Failure Date: 12/16/2009

During safety checks on a 2006 Ford E-350 15 passenger (church) van it was observed that approximately 9 of the 13 rear passenger seat belts were unavailable because the belts or buckles had slipped down through the seat cushions and were lying on the floor. It was impossible to push the (doubled up) buckles / belts back up through the seat. It was necessary to use a torx t-50 bit on a 3/8 ratchet to remove the seat belt anchor bolts and thread the belts down from the top and then retighten the anchor bolts. It appears likely that the belts will soon slip back to the floor. This condition should be considered a significant problem by the NHTSA because of the frequency of reports of crashes involving similar 15 passenger vans, often overloaded with unrestrained students. Seat belt use would be encouraged by ensuring that the belts remain ready for use at all times. There were plastic inserts in some of the seat belt holes which appeared to be intended to keep the belts in place. But, the plastic inserts prevent pushing belts up from underneath and do a poor job of keeping the belts from slipping down. A much better tether system is needed.
