My 2008 Ford Edge (since I brought it) has been having the same issue. When driving the vehicle, all of the lights on the panel will light up( wrench light, aigbag light, ire pressure light. . . Etc) the odometer will go off and have only dashes, the car will then have a loss of acceleration. The car feels like it is trying really hard to stay in gear or change gears. This will happen on the highway going 60mph as well as local roads at lower speeds. I will have to put my hazards on and pull over on the side. We figured out that if you disconnect the cables on the battery for a few minutes then reconnect the car will then run again ok. This is a serious hazard. I have almost been hit several times on the highway due to this issue and have been hit from behind getting on the highway already. I have taken the car to Ford several times only to be told that there is "no code reading" so they can not diagnose the problem. I have researched this to find out if other Ford Edges have the same issue and I came across a slew of other Ford Edge owners with the same issue. I have contacted Ford several times to be told that there are no recalls on this.
While driving my 2008 Ford Edge, the "wrench" light comes on and my car loses all power. When I step on the gas it is like I am in neutral my car will not drive. This is extremely dangerous especially in traffic. I am so scared I am going to be rear-ended. I did a lot of research and found many others have the same issue. Apparently it is the electronic throttle body.
Transmission disengages at random while moving in traffic. Once it occurs, vehicle cannot be moved under it's own power. Engine runs, but transmissions slips. High potential for being stranded in traffic and struck. Has occurred at least 4 times. Was able to coast to side of road. Electronics in dash act up, including service wrench and no speedometer. Apparently a known issue by Ford (TSB 07-21-11). Lots of common complaints online involving 2007-2008 model Edges. Related to faulty sensors (aa5z-7h103-b & aa5z-7m101-b).
Takata recall. The contact owns a 2008 Ford Edge. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16v384000 (air bags); however, the part for the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. Also, while driving, the panoramic roof cracked without warning. The contact mentioned that the vehicle started to jerk and became inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the coil was burned out and the computer, ecm, and sun roof needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 134,000.
My vehicle Ford Edge model 2008, lost control as well as speed when the wrench light came to the dashboard, immediately after the airbag light lit up, I had little or no engine power to engage gear to keep up with traffic speed. My speed dropped to 40 miles or less per hour. Very dangerous situation because at that moment the odometer lighting also went off. Driving on a highway at night no one drives below 40 miles per hour, made the situation pretty grave and dangerous. The problem comes from the power train faulty sensors near the transmission need to be replaced costing over $800,00, as for the airbag I haven't received a invoice yet.
The contact owns a 2008 Ford Edge. While driving approximately 50 mph, the odometer and air bag indicators illuminated. Also, the speedometer was at zero. The contact drove to a stop sign and rolled to side. The vehicle was coasted to a fuel station and then towed to the contact's residence. A local dealer was contacted and asked that the vehicle be brought to the shop for diagnostic testing. The contact also stated that the battery was corroded. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 120,000.
First I was driving when my breaks started to feel like they were locking up. Come to find out it was the power break booster which cost me $504. 00. Then 2 weeks later my car starts to do a putting feeling and come to find out 2 of the coils burnt up the power control module costing me $1058. 00. A few months before this it was in the Ford dealership because of a leak on the fuel pump. Costing me $216. I am furious I have had to spend this in the last month. I just seen on the news that Ford has a recall on the power control module but it was not my year. I am simply asking if someone would please look into this so maybe I can get some of this money back to pay off the debt it caused me.
As everyone else, loses acceleration, shut off and it seems fine later. High rpm no power, as if it cant shift. No error lights, shaking along with sputtering when it has a load. . . . . Very dangerous as I drive major highway daily. Has been happening more frequently now.
My radio has a short in the hardware. Factory installed radio and it will turn off and turn back on repetitively some days, not allowing me to utilize sync. Transmission has started kicking intermittently for the past month. While driving and slowing down.
When I was driving to work all of a sudden my airbag and wrench light came on and I have no speedometer or tachometer reading. If I pulled over and starting driving again I had very little pickup even though the rpms were over 2,000. There is also a very loud clunk when you put it in drive or reverse.
The contact owns a 2008 Ford Edge. While driving approximately 70 mph, the instrument panel illuminated and the speedometer fluctuated down to zero. The contact maneuvered the vehicle to the side of the road and restarted it after ten minutes. The contact stated that an abnormal sound emitted from the transmission area after the vehicle was restarted. The vehicle was shifted into the drive position and operated normally. The failure recurred several times in the past year. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
The blinkers stop working. You do not know this until cop stops you. Upon inspection I found that the socket had melted and had that molted look to them. The light bulbs had burnt out. This needs to be looked into since it is a potential fire hazard. Here is another complaint in your records reagarding the same issue- crash:no fire:no number of injuries:0 number of deaths:0 manufacturer: Ford motor company vehicle identification no. (VIN): 2fmdk38c48b. . . Summary: rear turn light sockets burn up with no warning light to display that your rear lights no longer work. You do not know until the police pulls you over to tell you which can result in fines. I had to pay to replace both rear light sockets (approx. $150).
Ac problems quit cooling.
Drivers side rear turn signal bulb melted the socket from excessive heat.
Same complaints as plenty of others. Driving on the freeway at 65 mph and the dashboard lights up with error*, the little screwdriver light came on, shows low tire pressure, the seatbelt/airbag light came on and the odometer stayed at zero. I couldn't accelerate and when I parked it, restarted it and tried to change gears it shook the car so hard and was so loud it could be heard inside the building. Something is terribly wrong with this model / year of vehicle and nothing is being done about it. This is the second time it has happened to my car. The first time it reset itself so the dealership couldn't find anything wrong with it. So now if I pay to have it towed to a shop and it resets itself before they can figure out what the problem is, which is looks as if nobody can figure it out, then its wasted money on a tow and a huge risk that this happening again. This is extremely dangerous and I'm in shock to see how many other people have experienced this and nothing has been done. As soon as I typed in "odo error" in google it auto filled my exact car - I didn't even have to type it, so even google knows this is a major malfunction.
I have had to constantly replace the bulb for the driver side light enclosure. The bulb blows out shortly after replacing. Most recently it was changed on April 4th and blew out April 6th.
Same complaint as dozens of other 2008 Ford Edge owners. Odo error comes up, almost all warning lights come on, tach and speedometer go to zero and car is stuck in gear making is almost impossible to accelerate from a stop. This has happened several times but is starting to happen more frequently and usually on the highway. This is clearly a dangerous defect that Ford needs to address ASAP before people are seriously injured.
The contact owns a 2008 Ford Edge. While driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle stalled and lost power. A wrench icon illuminated on the dashboard. The contact placed the gear in park and shut off the engine. The vehicle later restarted. The contact called a local dealer who requested that the vehicle be brought in for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and transferred the contact to NHTSA. The failure was not diagnosed. The failure mileage was 117,700.
Bought my 2008 Edge in 2012 and experienced issues with odo read error message and loss of power shortly there after. It happens most frequently on the freeway at higher rates of speed (60- 70 mph). I have had to pull off the freeway multiple times and restart the car. Have heard from a few that the sensors in the transmission are shorting out but have heard other things as well. Dealers refuses to look into problem and states since light is not on that they cannot read the code. This is dangerous as the vehicle is hard to keep speed and gain speed once this light comes on.
Back hatch door ajar light is on even when closed. The door will not lock and the interior lights stay on for a long time as a result.
The sunroof stays open and cannot close unless the vehicle is stopped and manually forced close. The sunroof mechanism to close to glass breaks easily. This appears to be a common issue with the panoramic sunroof, but is extremely expensive to fix. The dealership is wanting to charge between $1900 - $2500 to fix and two plastic clips that close the sunroof, because they are indicated they have to replace the entire track system, as the specific small part that needs replacing is not available.
Our vehicle began to stutter while driving down a 4 lane highway and then suddenly turned off while car was still in drive and in motion. Once the engine turned off on its own the power steering did not work making it difficult to steer to the side of road. Car was towed to dealership problem was noted as a faulty pcm which caused the coils to overheat and cause both the pcm and coil to fail. Coils was severely melted from overheating and may have eventually caught on fire. Ford was notified of the problem and states that the manufacture date was acknowledged in a TSB 14-0059 but that there is no responsibility of Ford motor company end. Cost to repair was $3000 due to TSB stating that customer needs to replace all coils and pcm with a unit that does not cause overheating and loss of power to car.
2008 Ford Edge sel. . . . With 6f50 transmission. . . . 165000 miles. . . . Vehicle shifts externally hard from 3rd to 4th gear with a hard jerk and load klunk, so much so that it has started causing me neck problems from tensing up in anticipation of the jerk. Also 2 twice up going from park to drive, had an extremly load noise in transmission that shook the entire vehicle and as I attempted to accelerate the rpm rose but the car barely eased forward and the transmission sounded as though it were in a bind. I then put it in park, turned the ignition off, pulled out the key, open and shut the door as to pretend I was exiting, then put key back into ignition, started the car, put it in gear (no problem) and accelerated as normal (no problem), except when it shifted from 3rd to 4th which is around 25mph. I have not and do not have any lights on in the instrument display panel nor do I have any error codes showing. Macanic says it would be an expensive shot in the dark to start randomly changing out sensors and changing out transmission would not solve the problem as it is not an issue with the mechanics of the transmission but an electrical issue. I've also tried a hard reboot to the cars electrical system to possibly clear any stored electrical issues, problem still exists!!! definitely a recall needed, due to safety issues while driving and physical conditions that could arise from the tensing up in expectation of the hard jerk. . . . . .
Tl- the contact inquired about a recall on the 2008 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving approximately 20 the vehicle had difficulty shifting and reduced power when acceleration. The failure happened without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it could not be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle failure mileage was 130,000. The VIN was not provided. Kh.
Auto transmission will not shift, engine revs and no power, wrench light airbag warning lights, dead speedo, odometer shows dashes. Had trans fluid changed. No help. I have seen several problems noted on the internet. Dealers are not fixing the problem by rebuilding the trans for several thousand dollars. The trans failing should not affect the various electrical problems associated with this incident. The system will reset if the engine is turned off and then restarted with nothing indicating a problem. There doesnt appear to be any codes set. I urge Ford to embrace these problems before someone is hurt because the trans "jumps" out of gear and causes an accident. This reported problem should not be "news" to your complaints department. I have chosen to always prefer a Ford products during my 50 years of driving and expect an honest, thorough and concise investigation be given to this problem.
Driver door ajar light remains on after closing the door several times. Once lights finally go out, it will pop right on again, even as I was driving. This is extremely dangerous, because we'll never know when the doors are ajar. Even bigger issue is the doors not being unlocked in the process. Just annoyed with this alltogether. Hopefully something will be done about it. It's draining the battery in the process. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2008 Ford Edge. The contact stated that a warning light kept randomly flashing for the door sensor, which indicated that the door was not shut when the door was closed and vise versa for all four doors. The contact was unable to enter the vehicle unless the contact manually unlocked the doors from the outside. The internal dome light remained illuminated as the failure progressed. The vehicle was not inspected and diagnosed. The vehicle was to be taken to a dealer. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000.
The contact owns a 2008 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the driver side door ajar warning indicator illuminated. The contact mentioned that the automatic door locks had not engaged and the interior dome lights remained illuminated. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000. The VIN was not available.
As I was driving, dash flashed "odo data error", then wrench light came on followed by airbag, tpm, engine light, basically all warning lights, odometer went to zero, loss of accelaration, pulled over and placed in park, car was revving high, turned car off and restarted, same, put on drive, stepped on gas, car revved but no movement. Turned car off and waited couple minutes, restated, warning lights disappeared, odometer back to actual mileage. Put on drive, step on gas, hesitation then loud transmission thump and car started moving again.
The contact owns a 2008 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced a severe lack of power. In addition, while the vehicle was operated at various speeds, the contact heard an abnormal noise from the rear wheel hubs. The air bag, tire pressure, and maintenance warning indicators illuminated. The hawkeye Ford dealer was contacted and diagnosed the failure as the output speed sensor. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 138,178.
Driving on the highway the instrument panel stopped working. The odometer dropped to zero while I maintained a steady speed along with gauge measuring rpm. Od data error message appeared. Airbag light and tire pressure lights came on as well. The acceleration immediately did not feel right. From a stop I had very weak acceleration almost none. It improved as I drove but did not feel normal.
About 3 months ago the drivers side front door ajar light was staying on and would not go away even the door was closed. We have been all kinds of other problems related to this problem such as door chimes going off randomly all the time the dome lights will not turn off when car is parked and shut off. The noise and lights are a major distraction. The other problem we have experienced with the vehicle but have had fixed is the two rear wheel bearings have been replaced. The first when the vehicle had only 36,000 plus or minus a thousand or two and the other when we only had 60,000 miles on vehicle. This is expensive and should not go bad in that short of time. We do not pull anything with the vehicle or drive it rough.
The contact owns a 2008 Ford Edge. While driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle stalled independently. The accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to operate. The contact had to jiggle the gear for the vehicle to operate normally. The failure recurred four times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the cause of the failure was undetermined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000. The VIN was not provided.
The contact owns a 2008 Ford Edge. Although the doors were closed, the dome light and the door ajar warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to an authorized dealer. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 63,000.
Rear turn signal and brake light overheated and started to melt the bulb and connectors.
