When driving at various speeds, transmission slips out of gear. Take foot off gas then press gas and transmission jerks the vehicle hard. Once stopped, vehicle will not accelerate. Restart engine 3 times and it works. Sometimes wrench engine light illuminates.
Pulling out of a parking lot turning right tried to accelerate significant amount of traffic behind me after turning and I couldn't go anywhere. Pulled into the nearest parking lot approx. 50 feet or more piled into parkin spot. Then sat for a couple inured wrench illuminated on dash board. Tried to back up to straighten vehicle and it made a loud clunk noise when putting in reverse. After turning off car went to restart after 30 minutes car made loud clunk again without being in gear. At this time it isn't a recalled item just. TSB and not getting any resolution as to why this isnt a recall item. Approx. 45 minutes prior to this incident I was on the highway driving the speed limit. What would have happened if the failure occurred at this point. Thank god it didn't as I wouldn't be writing this letter. For the safety of others this should be considered a recall item.
My brakes started off feeling very stiff, then would sink into floor while making a hissing sound. Often barely stopping. When stopped with my foot on the brake the engine will start sputtering like it is going to shut off, when I let off the brake it will run fine. There were no warning or indications that there was a problem and I have nearly wrecked multiple times. I contacted the local Ford service department and was informed that they have fixed this same problem in several of the Ford Edge suvs and that it would cost between $600 and $700 to repair. If so many people are having the same issue why has Ford not put out a recall on this?.
The transmission (automatic) will not go out of the first gears. There was a lound thud noise and then the car wouldnt shift, I had to put it in neutral and then back into drive to get it to work several times.
I have a 2008 Ford Edge, I have been noticing over the past few months that at random times the car will lurch forward when accelerating as if it suddenly received a burst of speed. One day I was at a stop light and I took my foot off the brake so that I could drive and the car wouldn't move and when I pressed harder on the accelerator there was a loud bang noise that sounded like the car suddenly clicked into drive. It has been happening more and more often where it lags and sticks and lurches forward when it finally wants to go. Today, it had serious issues where I was trying to accelerate and the car was instead slowing down and lurching forward with the sound of the engine straining and making noise. I had to pull over because the cars behind me had to go around me. I was extremely nervous that the car would stall in the middle of the road or cause an accident. When I pulled over and turned the car off and then turned it back on the problem seemed to lessen I only drove at a low speed to avoid an accident. I have two children and this car is unsafe to drive. I will take it to the dealership ASAP. It also rolls backward on an incline. Ford needs to do a recall on this vehicle because I have done some online research today and see that many many people have experienced the same problems. This is an extremely dangerous issue and needs to be addressed.
Driving along the freeway, when all of a sudden I noticed the dimming of lights in my car, and then the speedometer and engine odometer (revs) all dropped to 0, along with the wrench signal coming on, along with the airbag signal coming on, and then eventually the tire pressure signal coming on. The car lost acceleration and I was able to get off the freeway at the next exit. I tried to put my foot on the accelerator, I could hear the engine revving but the car only moving at 10 miles an hour, wouldn't go any faster, although I could hear it, it wouldn't click over, or accept the change in gear.
Automatic door locking once the vehicle reaches a certain low speed has failed to work on a number of occasions. Unless I am being attentive enough to notice they have not locked I'm sure there has been a number of times the doors have been unlocked for an entire trip. I assume this would be a safety issue in the event of a crash if the doors were not locked.
When driving all o a sudden the truck speedometer goes blank, the odometer drops to zero and the wrench, airbag and eventually the tire pressure lights illuminate. When pressing the accelerator the car struggles to accelerate because it starts losing power. I then have to pull off the road, turn the car off and allow the car to reset itself. I turn the car on, the lights are out but when I try to accelerate there is still little power so I have to press the accelerator to the floor an then the power kicks in and the car operates normal. This is a safety hazard because it has happened to me 4-5 times, on the highway. This is a safe hazard because it can potentially cause a tragic accident.
Driving through parking lot when shift between gears becomes very rough. Engine revs- but car has no forward movement. We were able to get the car in reverse, and back in to a parking space. We shut the car off- turned the car back on and the issue was resolved- still shifted a little hard.
The vehicle revs up but doesn't go anywhere then jerks into gear.
I backed up into the street leaving my driveway, I put it in drive to move forward and went about 50 feet and the car jerked and would not move anymore, I tried to press on the accelerator and the car would not go. This is not an acceptable issue, I feel that if my wife was in the car on the freeway this would have been bad.
I put the car in reverse and heard a loud thump thump and thought I backed into an object, but did not. When I put the car in drive, there was little acceleration even though I had the accelerator to the floor. I continued on and after a little while, about 2 miles, the car ran alright and I made it home safely. I immediately contacted the Ford dealership in town, and dropped the vehicle off this morning 7/29/2014.
When driving the vehicle the power train problem indicator light and check engine light come on and the car loses all power. Car will not exceed 900 rpm and will barely move. I had the trouble codes read and it is indicting that the throttle is showing stuck closed and open. I believe that this is the same issue as with several other Ford models and should have been part of the extended warranty that covered the throttle bodies from several other models. This issue poses a serious safety risk do to the fact that it has happened several times and at various speeds, if this were to happen at highway speeds in heavy traffic it could be horrible. I have researched this problem extensively online and found that it is a fairly common issue with the Edge.
Discovered my 2008 Edge has a failed water pump asy. Car overheated due to this. According to several seasoned mechanics and Ford, this should not happen to this car with this amount of mileage. The way this car was engineered, it is a $2300+ repair - for a water pump! spoke with Ford several times asking for them to step-up and take responsibility. Got no help except I should keep my receipts. Very disappointed in Ford.
Entering highway and auto would not shift gears or accelerate. Stayed idle at over 5 rpm's and had to pull off the road. Seemed like a transmission problem. Towed to repair shop for assessment. Still at shop. This vehicle on multiple occasions before this incident has regularly engaged in a violent jerk when I have engaged it in drive or reverse. Seems like a transmission issue but dealer wont do anything unless they can duplicate problem. I have seen and know of numerous other Ford Edge owners that have had the same issue and no fix has been found or dealer and Ford wont fix unless it duplicated the issue while they have the vehicle and most times its something not covered. This is a serious safety issue and they need to be held accountable.
The "driver door ajar" message continues to go off on our 2008 Ford Edge. The door is securely closed. The lights will stay on finally causing a complete drain on our battery last night during the night. This is a big safety concern as the doors do not lock sometime until several miles down the road. We could also be left stranded somewhere as we never know when it is going to happen. We go to bed all lights are off and sometime during the night they come on. We have tried several suggestions regarding engine lubricant on the plunger, but it is a temp fix at best. This is a safety problem. I would like to have it fixed by Ford. Clearly if you do research on the internet this has been a problem with the Ford Edges for several years.
I have a 2008 Ford Edge sel. When turning on my left blinker it was blinking rapidly which I knew indicated a light was out. I found that it was my driver side rear blinker/tail light. I went to the store and purchased the bulb. When I got home to replace it I found that I could not remove the bulb as the socket has melted. I searched online and found that this is common for this type of vehicle.
A 1995 landrover ran a stoplight and t-boned my vehicle in the middle of the intersection. A second car hit the back of my car.
I have a 2008 Ford Edge. We were over an hour away from home, on a Sunday, when we stopped at a stop light and when I was taking off, the vehicle would rev but not go, then when it did engage, there was a hard thud twice. I was really afraid that we might not make it back home as well as making it through the intersection. We did make it home without further incident that day. I made an appt to take it to the dealership that I purchased it from on Wednesday. There were no incidents until Tuesday night when we were coming home from the grocery store. From a stop at a stop sign it did the same thing, but not a hard. The dealership was unable to pull any codes or get it to act up that first day. I asked them to keep it and to try once again. It did act up for the guy, but they couldn't figure out what was going on. They recommended that I take it to the Ford dealership to see if they could figure it out. I took it in today and they called to tell me that they were unable to pull any codes or get it to act up. So now I am paying them $135 just to tell me the same thing the other dealership didn't charge me for. On top of that, I drive 45 miles round trip to work 5 days a week and am afraid of this happening on the busy interstate that I travel or happening at a busy intersection. I have read many statements by people and it seems they are having the same problems with the same results. . . Nothing! Ford needs to step up and make sure the people who buy their vehicles are happy and will return. I don't understand how the service people can't fix it without a code or even figure out what's going on. This is a scary thing and I don't have the money to pay people to tell me nothing! and then what happens when my warranty ends?! my biggest concern is safety. There are too many people writing about the same thing happening.
On the way home from a vacation, we pulled into a fast food restaurant to get a quick bite to eat. Upon leaving the restaurant, we started the vehicle and everything seemed normal. About three minutes into our drive home, the dash lights came on (specifically the wrench and air bag lights) and the vehicle lost all throttle power. We quickly pulled over and turned off the car to see if we could diagnose the problem ourselves. After being unsuccessful at identifying the problem, we started the car again and attempted to put the car in drive. The transmission produced a loud "clunking" sound. Each time you tried to change gears (I. E. Reverse to drive), there would be an extremely harsh engagement and the gear change would be rough, each time producing a loud "clunk". I brought the car to a local mechanic who advised this is a common issue with Ford Edge's, in fact; there is a TSB bulletin (07-21-11) regarding the issue. This problem stems from a short in the output shaft speed (oss) sensor and the turbine shaft speed (tss) sensors. As I read the TSB bulletin, this issue should be covered by the manufactures emissions warranty, the dealership disagrees. This issue can be found in abundance with the 2008 Ford Edge vehicle. In a brief search online, I found a large number of complaints regarding this same problem from owner Edge owners. My complaint is that I believe this should be a recall issue and it should happen immediately. In this instance, I wasn't in harm's way, but in previous instances I have been in the middle of an intersection and lost the ability to accelerate, which is undoubtedly a terrifying experience. I am requesting your assistance in moving forward with this complaint as I'm not sure where else to turn. Thank you very much.
When I put into gear the transmission jerks into gear. All the vehicle codes go off at once. One incident I lost power when I came to a stop at an intersection. I accelerated and vehicle hesitated to accelerate. The. Speedometer read zero and I was clearly going over 40mph. I have only had the vehicle 7mos. I took it in for service at the Ford dealer twice and was told it was nothing and that it might be the battery. Today is the final straw. I am writing this at the Ford dealer. The transmission is jerking way to much. It is unsafe to drive. And they are trying to put me in a new car. . I want my car fixed. .
While driving on freeway with children in car on freeway, car suddenly made a hard sound, speedometer dropped to 0 instantly, all dash board lights came on, rpm stayed between 2 and 3, once traffic slowed and accelerator was eased off of car began to slow and would not pick back up speed when pressed again- even when pushed all the way down. I pulled over to the shoulder and turned the engine off. Then turned it back on. Then I tried to put it into gear. The engine sound as if gas was being given to engine from accelerator and rpm was stuck at 2-3, when put into gear, car jolted really hard and moved ever so slowely when I tried to drive it back into traffic to get my family off freeway, even when I pressed pedal all the way to the floor, car barely moved. I had to keep trying multiple times to turn engine off, try to put it in gear, and get car going just to get it off freeway to safety. Car eventually pulled into gear and drove normally after several tries. A single mother, with infant and older child on board, on a very busy freeway is very, scary scary scary. This happens often on either the freeway (driving fast) or driving out of the park's parking lot at slow pace. Car slips out of gear or something and will not accelerate when I give it gas.
My wife was driving her 2008 Ford escape from work on a very busy highway when she stopped at a store got back in started the car she noticed that the airbag light was on speedometer had lines going thew it when she put it into gear it made a real loud banging sound and jerked as she was driving' the car lost compression did not have any power at all. She made it home without getting killed or killing someone I went out to see what was wrong and when I started the car it made a load banging 'when I put it into gear it was even worst we called a tow truck and had it towed where we had bought it at ----- ---- ----- -------- it's the only Ford dealer close and they have a very poor record for backing their warranty's. It sound's to me to be the computer chip I have a warranty on it still so there should be no reason for them not to fix it but I will bet that they say that the warranty doe's not cover the power train but it doe's so if you are having this problem with your 2008 escape do not let the tell you that it is not covered if you have a warranty. The computer chip that operates your power train is part of the power train' if not for that the car would not move unless it was being towed if you work for Ford and see all of these complaint's about the same thing going on with the 2008 escape's what is it going to take before Ford step's up someone to get killed.
I have a 2008 Ford Edge sel that beginning last year started hesitating between 1st and 2nd gears and 1500-2000 rpm's. I have taken it to the dealership to have the computer for the transmission updated and it didn't fix the issue. The dealership can't seem to figure out the exact problem. But there are a lot of other people reporting this online as well. Ford needs to put a recall out so that consumers like me can have this issue fixed. The car also bangs when put into reverse. Please help!.
This car was totaled after an accident in 2013 and went to the junkyard. Please take this off of your records for recalls.
While driving on highway a big bang noise happens in the car, feels and sounds like I have been hit. The car doesn't stop, keeps driving. Dealers technicians say they can't fix it or don't even know what it is because it doesn't happen all the time. It is such a violent bang and jerk. Only does it right now anyway, on a long drive on a highway. I am over my warranty, so very upset, as my children are in this car everyday. Just bought it and to trade it in I would loose so much money. You need to be doing recalls on this car where there are so many others posting this same problem on the Ford forum. Everyone saying it is transmission and when they replace it, it still doesn't work properly. This is crazy!! Ford do something please!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Door ajar icon on all doors closed dome lights only go off when car is in motion however if you hit breaks as if your going to stop dome lights come back on .
I bought brand new a 2008 Ford Edge I have had so much trouble with it and it has been in shop so many times and they still can't figure it out. From transmission to hot temp, bearings in tire being melted with under 60,000 miles!!!! I have repaired brake booster twice!!!.
