On 12/31/24 my rear windshield exploded. I had it replaced and on 2/28/25 the rear window has exploded again!.
The panoramic sun roof has cracked suddenly due to stress. There was no damage or fracture due to an impact from a rock or other outside projectile. The glass roof has simply begun to fail due to stress. I am having this issue repaired next week, but I have taken pictures for documentation. I was able to find forums online where numerous people have complained about this issue with what appears to be years 2015-2017 Ford Edges.
At interstate highway speed and without warning, front panel of panoramic sunroof (vista roof) shattered, throwing shards of glass upward, rearward, and down into the sunshade. The closed cloth constructed sunshade was the only thing that prevented a barrage of glass fragments from injuring passengers in our vehicle, as the pieces remaining on the top of the sunshade were numerous. There was no warning for this, nor environmental cause that we could see. Incident happened on a rural stretch of highway, so other cars were not impacted. In a more densely traveled area and if the sunshade were open, this could have caused injury. Vehicle is being repaired by a dealer-group-affiliated body shop. Two of the manufacturer's dealerships were consulted and denied this being experienced before. They indicated this was not a repair covered by warranty or extended service contract and referred us to glass or body repair shops for advice and repair.
The vehicle was in park, idling. We heard a pop sound and discovered the rear windshield had exploded. There was no one near or around the vehicle. I had heard this was a common issue with the Ford Edge.
(first incident) went to replace wiper blades as they were chattering. Lifted driver side arm and wiper blade fell right off without any intervention. (second incident) installed bosch icon wiper blades as they were supposed to be the best on the market. My wife was driving home at the start of the blizzard 12/21/2022 in iowa and once again, the driver’s side wiper blade fell off while in use. Extremely dangerous situation for her and everyone else she met on the highway.
I used the remote start to warm up my car, went outside got in shut my car door and before I could push the break and hit the start button my rear window shattered.
The windshield shattered, no collision. Just simply shattered. Cooler than ambient temperatures outside, I was using the rear defrost before the damage accrued.
The apim module went bad and the screen is out in the touchscreen is unresponsive to touch. I can't access the any of the controls and for climate or entertainment or anything. I can't even turn the defrost on to take the keep the windshield form fogging up. The other problem was that the the tailgate will not open and it won't release.
Lift gate window randomly shattered at base with no known trauma to window. The vehicle was parked in the garage overnight when this happened.
Sometime over the night the rear glass shattered and my wife's 2015 Ford Edge sport. No one was in the vehicle at the time and the ambient temperature was 50 in our garage. She noticed broken glass on the ground before leaving for work. The rear defrost was not being used and the vehicle was just sitting in our garage. I took quite a few photos and I began looking into other issues with this vehicle to find this is not an uncommon problem. I'm glad she was not driving down the road or on the highway at the time it broke. Glass has continued to fall into the back every time you open or close the door. I'll first contact Ford to see if this is something that is covered before looking into safelite auto glass replacement. The vehicle cannot be driven before this is fixed.
While driving this vehicle, the rear window shattered. I pulled over to check the damage and concluded nothing hit the window to cause this damage. While investigating (online reports and speaking with repair specialists) the cause of this damage may be related to the heating strips (for defrosting) in the window.
The headlights on my 2015 Edge are extremely weak on low beam. There is no peripheral lighting at all. I cannot drive at night safely without having my high beams on. This is scary and dangerous.
My wife was inside at work and the 2015 Edge was just sitting in the parking lot. She got in after work and started the car and boom the back window just shatters. Not remote started or anything. It was about 27degrees f outside. The window literally broke at all 4 corners. I have read there is a recall in canada for this issue but not one here in the united states. This is a wonderful way to start xmas is with a $600 repair bill since Ford says it's not covered under warranty.
I have a 2015 Ford Edge and as I was driving home last night on the highway, I heard a loud pop. I looked in my rear view mirror and noticed my rear window shattered. I was not involved in an accident and nothing hit my car. I came off the highway and pulled into a parking lot, inspected the rear window and it had began to fall apart. I contacted Ford and there are no open recalls on my vehicle. I did a quick search online and noticed that many Ford customers have had the same issue.
My car was parked in a driveway, not running and I heard a huge loud noise. I walked over to my vehicle and the rear windshield had completely blew out and shattered.

Wavy spider like cracks on the back panel of panoramic sunroof glass with no indication that something fell on it. I cannot be sure exactly when the cracks happened. I leave the shade closed most of the time.
My sun/panoramic roof is spider cracked all the way across the first panel (that sits over the driver) from excess heat. The vehicle has not been parked under trees, overpasses, or anywhere that rocks or objects could fall on top of the vehicle and crack the glass.
2015 Ford Edge titanium panoramic sunroof. The laminated glass started cracking above the front passenger seat while parked. Over the following 2 days (approximately 150 miles of highway driving at 45 -55 mph), the crack extended and divided to form a mass of wavy cracks across the whole glass. Only the exterior layer of glass has cracked at tbhs point but the roof creaks and flexes and will potentialy completely fail at some point. I dare not open the roof in case it fails completely. There are no indications of impact at any point on the roof ("bulls eyes"), and the cracks look to be caused by stress caused by the way the glass is mounted, or how the supporting structure is strengthened (or not) against flexing.
My car was sitting in garage I do not drive very much. I got in and looked up getting ready to back up and noticed a wavy crack. Nothing has hit it been in garage. No marks of anything hitting it. I have read about several others had the same thing happen.
Came out to my 2015 Ford Edge sport with the rear glass of the panoramic moonroof cracked from left to right seems. Car is parked in drive way and I have a awning so nothing fell from the sky and hit it. Also didn't see any damage or chips from a hit. Right then I remember seeing all the complaints of the of the exploding moon roofs that Ford is failing to see as a safety hazard. Reports after reports of the exact issue. After calling Ford service I was told over the phone that it's not covered. Wow, didn't even see the vehicle. This will be my last Ford I ever purchase. Nothing but issues.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 55 mph in the rain with the windshield wipers set on high, the driver’s side wiper blade detached. The vehicle was taken to an auto parts store and the blades were replaced. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or independent mechanic for diagnosis. The failure recurred again with the driver’s side blade. Later the passenger’s side blade detached. The vehicle was taken an auto parts store and the rain-x blades were replaced. The contact researched the failure online and became aware of NHTSA campaign number: 22v250000 (visibility). The vehicle was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA to file a complaint. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000.
Driving straight thru a city residential street about 20mph my rear window shattered. There wasn't any impact just the sound of the window bursting.
For the second time in less then 2 years our panoramic sunroof has cracked completely. Not just a single crack but the entire window has cracks. The first time the Ford technician said he could see where a rock or something hit the window. Well I have not taken this in yet but I'm sure it will be the same excuse. I am not sure when it cracked as we don't always have the sunroof open and don't always have the shade open either. So how and when it occurred are not clear. I know that we never heard anything that would have made us want to check to see if it was ok either. The strange thing is that the windshield had a couple of small little star shape cracks that have never gotten worse in the 4 years we have owned the car. But the sunroof seems to crack very easily.
The auto dim rear view mirror stays on dim all of the time which limits the drivers visibility substantially. The lighting is never "high visibility". I am reporting this issue to you in the hopes that you will review it and possibly prevent a serious traffic incident.
Was finished shopping , the car was parked ror about two hours. When I got in I noticed a small crack in the sunroof glass. I checked the outside and there was no indication of any damage from an impact. It has grown from that initial crack. Checked on line and found many of the same problems and Ford keeps saying its because of impacts. I beg to differ.
Sitting in my garage, the car was running and warming up. Rear defroster was on as was heat in car. Oat was 35 deg f. Rear window exploded along bottom Edge with no outside influence. Many other Edge owners have reported similar incidents of the rear window shattering on its own. Please investigate and issue a recall. Thank god it didn't happen 1000 mikes from home on a lonely interstate at night!.
Rear window shattered on own when car was parked. Cops came and no evidence of foul play. Was parked on side of street for 15 mins when occurred and in 30 degree weather.
The sunroof glass randomly and inexplicably cracked while the vehicle was parked in a sun-drenched parking lot. I heard a loud "crack" which resulted in a small crack that rapidly progressed into a spiderweb of cracks over the next few hours and while driving home. See attached pictures. There is no evidence of foreign object impact . My understanding from internet searches is that this is a common problem with this model vehicle/sunroof.
Front portion of sunroof has random wavy cracks throughout the glass. Normal driving kept in garage and only has 32k miles on vehicle.
The panoramic sunroof developed spiderweb style cracking for no reason. I just bought this car a week ago. The car was not even being driven when this happened.
Noted today that the rear section of the vista glass roof is cracked on our 2015 Ford Edge.
While driving down interstate in light rain, but trucks throwing water onto windshield, the drivers side wiper skipped and stalled. It was extremely hard to see and very dangerous. After about 5-7 seconds, it moved and wiped windshield again. This has happened at least 4 different times. Dealer has reprogrammed, but that did not fix the issue. This is a serious safety issue.
