The car is a 2018 Ford Edge titanium 2. 0l eco boost engine. After 75,600 miles the check engine light came on. After a local auto repair shop diagnosed the problem as a coolant contamination in cylinder 3, I was instructed to take the car to a Ford dealer because a new engine was needed. The dealer confirmed the coolant intrusion in cylinder 3 and a new engine has been ordered. After calling Ford care, I was told that this is a known problem but because my warranty had expired there was nothing Ford would do. So I will need to spend $8,500 for the new engine and installation.
This 2018 Ford Edge of 65, 775 miles was loosing antifreeze, releasing white smoke out exhaust and would throw codes of overheating issues etc. Took vehicle to pettus Ford in fredericktown, missouri for diagnostic of codes. It was noted that these codes are all related and owner must get a new engine to fix the problem. No other remedy was suggested. This seems to be a none problem with this year of vehicle with no recalls noted to date. There were a few different warning lamps that were displayed to notify owner.
Car keeps overheating and mis firing causing the car to break down on the side of the road, coming to find out that the engine is having head gasket failure without warning, check engine light doesn't appear to after the fact, causing my 82 year old mother stranded on the side of the road.
2018 Ford Edge 2. 0l ecoboost. Vehicle cel came on, took it to the dealership for diagnostic and report indicated a known TSB 22-2229 to apply to my vehicle's condition. Trouble code p0302. White exhaust smoke, misfire at start up, low coolant levels, runs rough. Dealer performed a borescope inspection and found the engine long block has internal fluid leak. My safety, my kids, and others on the road were put as risk because at any given moment, the car could have overheated, stalled and caused an accident. The engine is available for inspection upon request. Prior to the cel, the car began shaking and blowing white exhaust smoke. Now I'm left with no car as a single mom trying to make ends meet. Ford won't help to pay $13k for a new engine with a known manufacturing defect.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the head gasket needed to be replaced; the independent mechanic made the contact aware of an unknown technical service bulletin associated with the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to a different independent mechanic where it was diagnosed once again that the head gasket needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.
2018 Ford Edge 2. 0l ecoboost engine that has a design flaw that allows coolant to leak into the cylinders and destroys engine. Approximately 65,600 ish miles and it was just diagnosed with coolant intrusion and new engine is needed.
Blown head gasket, coolant leak into engine tsb222229.
I bought the car may 1st. May 3rd the check engine light came on. Dealership changed spark plugs. Next day light came on again. Then the engine over heating warning light came on. Coolant looked low but went took cap off and air hit coolant level came back up.
I have a 2018 Ford Edge supposedly bought "brand new" was advertised "brand new" but later find out it wasn't because dealership had titled it to themselves as a loaner. A few weeks ago my check engine light came on and my husband had it checked and was a cylinder 2 fault code. He took it to our local mechanic and he said he looked with scope and saw coolant in the cylinder. My car now sits at the Ford dealership in albemarle and has been diagnosed with the coolant intrusion issue and I have to pay for a engine. My calls to Ford were useless, they refused to help even though this issue was well known to them and I was never informed or I would have traded this vehicle in a long time ago. The service rep at the dealership said I was looking at about $7400 out the door plus an issue with "fluid leaking" on both front wheels, which is another $1000. She also said she would advocate on my behalf with Ford to see if they will cover any of this $$$ repair. We are waiting to find out their response. I have a line of credit set up to pay for this but really can't afford to put money into this lemon. I am disappointed in Ford as a Ford mustang was my first car and my husband and I have bought several brand new and used vehicles over the years. We were life long Ford people but Ford doesn't stand behind well known (to them) defective engines so we are no longer. My choices are 1) pay $8500 to have the repairs fixed, 2) Ford assisting me with paying for the engine replacement 4) selling/trading my vehicle to avoid the expensive repair and only getting between $2000 and 3000. Either way (unless Ford helps me) I am out around $7400-$8500! most of all I feel like I've been driving around blind to the fact that a fire could have resulted. I frequently have my grandchildren in my car and it could have been devastating. Or my engine could have blown in the middle of heavy traffic putting us at risk of collision and the task of somehow getting it out of the road safely.
Vehicle, a 2018 Ford Edge sel, recently experienced misfiring and overheating with the "check engine" light illuminated. Took the vehicle to an automotive repair shop and, after performing diagnostics, they advised the vehicle's engine coolant is leaking into the cylinders, which was the subject of a prior technical service bulletin #19-2208 from Ford, and is a known design defect with the 2. 0l ecoboost engine produced by Ford for this and other model vehicles. After researching this issue I determined it was the subject of a prior recall, technical service bulletin, and class action lawsuit which lead Ford to offer free repairs of the engine block and extended warranty coverage to affected vehicle owners. We were never notified of the recall, TSB, or class action and, therefore, were not aware of the problem and unable to take advantage of any corrective program. Now, Ford customer service and the Ford dealership are both refusing to effect the necessary repairs without cost to me. The vehicle's engine has an acknowledged design flaw that can cause misfires, hydro-locking, overheating, and total engine failure with a fire risk. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Safety risks to the driver, occupants and others is obvious. The problem has been confirmed by a firestone automotive repair shop. No other inspections have occurred due to a fear of driving the vehicle. The "check engine" light did activate when the problem first occurred, approximately 5 days ago (04/29/2026).
My 2018 Ford Edge with the 2. 0l ecoboost engine (approximately 100,000 miles) has experienced coolant intrusion into the engine cylinders — a known manufacturing defect documented by Ford in TSB 19-2346 (NHTSA id 10169807). The coolant leak was discovered over the course of several months as I noticed that heat wasn't coming out and I checked that the coolant was low. I replaced the coolant twice over six months. The dealership confirmed coolant in the cylinders and stated the only repair is a full long-block engine replacement, quoted at approximately $12,000. Ford motor company has acknowledged this defect affects 2015–2018 Edge vehicles with the 2. 0l ecoboost engine, yet has refused to issue a recall or provide financial assistance to affected owners. This is a manufacturing defect — not owner-caused damage — as Ford's own TSB identifies erosion and corrosion of the engine block as the root cause. Ford customer service declined to assist when contacted. I am requesting NHTSA investigate this issue and consider a formal recall, as thousands of owners of 2015–2018 Ford Edge, escape, fusion, mkz, and mkc vehicles with the 2. 0l ecoboost are facing the same failure.
The vehicle experienced engine failure due to coolant intrusion into the engine cylinders. The issue presented with engine misfire, including diagnostic trouble code p0302, rough running, and coolant entering the combustion chamber. The condition was confirmed by a dealership, which determined that the engine has internal damage and requires full engine replacement. There were no external coolant leaks observed. This failure occurred at approximately 88,000 miles and was not consistent with normal wear and tear. The issue developed without significant prior warning other than engine misfire and rough operation. This condition may create a safety risk, as engine misfire and internal damage can lead to loss of power, reduced vehicle performance, or potential engine stall while driving. Technical service bulletins have been issued for similar vehicles equipped with the same engine, including TSB 19-2172, TSB 19-2208, and TSB 22-2229, which describe coolant intrusion into engine cylinders and require engine replacement. This suggests the issue is not isolated and may affect other vehicles with the same engine design.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving, the vehicle began to vibrate excessively. There was an abnormal swishing sound detected. The check engine light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where a video was sent to the contact displaying coolant intrusion into the cylinders. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 79,000.
On April 15, 2026, I brought my 2018 Ford Edge sel to an authorized Ford dealership with a loud rattling noise at startup and an illuminated check engine light. Ford motor company had previously sent me two written notices (September 2022 and June 2023) identifying a known cracked flexplate defect on my vehicle under customer satisfaction program 22n12, describing these exact symptoms. The defect was never repaired at any of my 16 service visits. Additionally, on September 2, 2025 — just 8 days after safety recall 25s87 for the rear brake flexible hose was issued — the dealership presented that recall repair to me as a $532 optional paid service without disclosing it was a free safety recall I was entitled to by federal law. Safety recall 25s89 for the rear-view camera also remains unperformed. The vehicle is currently undriveable.
Error code, cylinder 2. This is 2018 Ford Edge 2l ecoboost and personal mechanic looked in cylinder and saw small amount of coolant. The car is sitting at Ford dealership in albemarle nc at this time for full diagnostics. The car has mostly been parked since getting error code but husband said coolant is full, oil looks normal, is not cloudy and car drove fine to dealership. We are hoping this will be a minor (not replace the whole engine) fix. But I am bracing for worst, and scared it is the "well known to Ford" coolant intrusion issue due to defective engines in models 2015-2018. If so I hope Ford will do the right thing. My husband and I have been life long Ford customers, but if I have to pay for that engine with no assistance from them I will never owl another Ford. This seems to be a chronic issue with these engines. Im not sure exact date we got the error code but sometime in April. I can probably get exact date my husband had it checked from parts store if need be. I bought this car brand new (although it was technically not new. It was advertised and sold as new but I later found out it had been previously titled to dealership. . . But this is another story). I changed oil regularly, with full synthetic and I am in my late [xxx] and drive accaccordingly. This vehicle has been well taken care of. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
2018 Ford Edge 116,000 due to poor engine issues since 2015 Edge cars a new engine of nearly 10,000 needs to be replaced. Ford knew this but continued to use this failed engine.
My 2018 Ford Edge (VIN: [xxx] ), equipped with a 2. 0l ecoboost engine, suffered a catastrophic engine failure due to internal coolant intrusion into the cylinders — a known defect covered under Ford technical service bulletin TSB 22-2229. Approximately four months before the failure, I brought the vehicle to red mccombs Ford in san antonio after the check engine light illuminated. Despite this warning, the authorized Ford dealer failed to diagnose the issue or recommend any repair, and advised me it was safe to continue driving. Shortly thereafter, while driving on a busy highway with my grandchildren in the vehicle, the engine suddenly lost all power with no additional warning. We were forced to coast to the shoulder, placing us and other motorists at serious risk of collision. The vehicle was towed immediately to mccombs Ford west (7111 northwest loop 410, san antonio, TX 78238), another authorized Ford dealer in the same red mccombs automotive group, where technicians confirmed the engine requires full replacement at an estimated cost of $7,415. 89. A warranty claim was submitted but denied on the basis that I allegedly drove too long after the problem began — a determination I dispute, as the vehicle was towed immediately upon failure without further operation. The failed engine remains at the dealership, has not been repaired, and is available for inspection upon request. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. While the contact’s wife was driving 40 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, and the vehicle unexpectedly lost automotive power. The contact stated that after refueling the vehicle and attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle started shaking abnormally. The check engine warning light was illuminated. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed, and it was determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 68,000.
My 2018 Ford Edge (2. 0l ecoboost) is suffering from a documented manufacturing defect where coolant leaks into the engine cylinders. I have an official dealer diagnostic report confirming the symptoms match TSB 22-2229 (which supersedes TSB 22-2133 and 19-2346).
Coolant engine intrusion. Improperly built engine. No mechanic will try to fix it based on history.
The long block of the engine, which has seemingly been a known issue, is causing damage to the engine and spark plugs. It is. This could leave me stranded or cause an accident with how violent it makes the car misfire, and sometimes it's hard to accelerate. This is an issue that Ford has acknowledged as well as the Ford dealership. It has undergone a diagnostic run at the Ford dealership. There were no warnings prior to this. The problem makes it seem like it is another issue, and with further investigation, it shows that it is the long block of the engine that is the root cause.
When the check engine light illuminated, the vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic who diagnosed the problem as “there is an internal engine failure on number 3 cylinder. Anti-freeze is leaking into the combustion chamber and going out the tailpipe. The engine needs to be replaced. ” there were no indications prior to the check engine light warning as the car is well maintained (garage kept, regular oil changes/maintenance by the Ford dealership where the vehicle was purchased and only 63,000 miles on the vehicle). The vehicle does start but is considered undrivable for any distance since the engine failure could cause the vehicle to become inoperable at any time. However, the vehicle can be made available for inspection if driving a short distance or possibly having the vehicle towed. What we are left with is a vehicle that is a total loss. We are unable to sell or trade it and continue to incur insurance costs.
I am submitting this complaint to report a serious engine defect involving coolant intrusion into the engine cylinders on my 2018 Ford Edge. The vehicle was inspected by a Ford-authorized dealership after engine performance concerns. Diagnostic testing confirmed positive combustion gases in the cooling system, indicating internal coolant leakage into the engine. The dealership has stated that the only recommended repair is replacement of the long block (engine). This condition is consistent with a known defect affecting Ford 2. 0l ecoboost engines, which Ford has acknowledged through technical service bulletin 22-2229. Despite this acknowledgment, no recall has been issued for this vehicle. This defect poses a significant safety concern, as it can lead - engine misfires and loss of power - sudden engine failure while driving - potential stalling or inability to safely operate the vehicle the failure occurred at approximately 63,110 miles, which is unreasonably low for catastrophic engine damage of this nature and indicates a manufacturing or design defect rather than normal wear.
The engine requires full replacement due to a cracked engine block, coolant intrusion into cylinder 2, heavy spark plug corrosion, and diagnostic code p0302 (cylinder 2 misfire). The defect was confirmed by an authorized Ford dealership. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Safety risk: this defect causes sudden loss of engine power without reliable warning, engine stalling in active traffic, and risk of engine fire due to coolant-oil contamination - all documented safety hazards Ford has acknowledged in its own technical bulletins. The vehicle was inspected by a Ford-certified technician at an authorized dealership. The problem was confirmed and dealership issued a written diagnosis for requiring engine replacement. 100% of our services to this vehicle have been done by Ford dealerships, up to and including the appointment to diagnose the engine. Warning symptom appeared prior to failure: check engine light, an audible sloshing sound from the engine compartment. Symptoms first appeared in early December 2025, (approximately 2 weeks before the end of our warranty. ) a service appointment was scheduled for the check engine light, but was cancelled because the light cleared itself. We learned in April 2026 that it was engine failure. Ford's own tsbs 19-2346 and 22-2229 document that symptoms of this defect occur with or without an illuminated mil. Ford has not issued a recall despite NHTSA's own database showing 727 complaints on this vehicle, 128 pages of which relate to engine and engine cooling issues. They stated when asked about a warranty claim or goodwill there is no open customer service issues related to this, and since the diagnosis is post warranty they will not cover any of the approximate $10,000 it will cost to replace the engine.
The coils kept popping up check engine light. And turns out it was an injector failing, and cause my car to jerk a lot, and not accelerate when needing. My car would almost try to stop accelerating while on highway and jerk so much that it felt like I was going to wreck on the middle of a freeway.
The defect involves the engine block or cylinder head design, which allows engine coolant to intrude into the engine's combustion cylinders. Coolant mixing with the engine oil will cause a catastrophic failure and can lead to an engine fire. Ford has issued technical service bulletins TSB 19-2346 but it does not cover any cost and no recalls have been issued. This is a known manufacturing defect in which Ford is taking no accountability.
Coolant leak into the cylinders of an ecoboost engine. Coded out. Inspection found that the coolant had been pulled into the engine. No recall, needs entire engine replaced.
2018 Ford Edge with 119k miles. Issue has been determined to be the known issue of coolant intrusion into the cylinders. The issue was noticed while stopped at a traffic light, vehicle started "reving" and showed rpm fluctuations. On two separate occasions, the vehicle lost all ability to accelerate while driving. It's also has white smoke coming out of the exhaust and has been losing coolant at an alarming rate. After multiple inspections and other attempted fixes (water pump replacement, spark plugs replaced, fuel pump replaced), it's been determined that the coolant intrusion is to blame. The vehicle is deemed unsafe to drive in the current state and extended warranty is no longer in affect due to the mileage.
I have a 2018 Ford Edge. In late October of 2025 my engine light illuminated. The diagnosis was a p301, indicating a misfire in cylinder one. Spark plugs and cylinder 1 coil was replaced. No problems until December and engine light came on again, same code. Coil was replaced again and in January engine light came on again. Ford released TSB 19-2346 on 12-19-19 describing a possible coolant leak in to the cylinders and a engine replacement was suggested. I feel a recall is necessary to prevent safety issues created by slower than normal acceleration and /or engine fires.
2018 Ford Edge engine size 2. 0 ecoboost has a coolant intrusion that Ford is well aware of but refuse to help customers with the problem. Engine could fail while driving on the highway but they have not issue an emergency recall for it. . This is a very serious manufacture error on behalf of Ford motor.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the engine hesitated to turn over. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed with a coolant intrusion in the engine. The vehicle was not repaired due to the costs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000.
My car started overheating this morning. Took it to my mechanic & he told me I had a cracked head gasket where coolant was leaking. He thought there was a recall/notice about some coolant issues. Sent me to our local Ford dealership; they said my vehicle wasn't covered under any recalls. But there is a notification about this very issue. I attached a screenshot of the exact issue listed online that matches my problem.
The problem began in early August 2025 when the check engine light came on and the vehicle misfired. A Ford mobile technician inspected it before 8/23/25, confirmed diagnostic code p0303 (cylinder 3 misfire), but said it was likely just a bad ignition coil. Based on that, I went to midas on 8/23/25 for a tune-up and coil check. On 9/29/25, the check engine light returned and for the first time the coolant over-temperature warning illuminated. Midas confirmed coolant intrusion into cylinder 3: borescope and pressure test showed leakage, leak-down test failed with air entering the coolant reservoir, and visible coolant loss was present. At 80,445 miles, the engine was deemed unsafe and required full replacement. Hawk Ford confirmed no warranty extensions or programs applied. The repair cost was $10,500 out of pocket. This defect matches Ford TSB 19-2172, is widely reported in ecoboost engines, and creates a serious safety risk since the vehicle misfires, overheats, and may stall while driving.
Our 2018 Ford Edge started idling rough after spark plug change and after dealer tested it they told us it had engine coolant in #2 cylinder and that driving it could lead to catastrophic engine failure. Only fix is complete engine block replacement (recommended by Ford in bulletin tsb22-2229) along with new turbo as it may also have been damaged by coolant leak. (could also damage catalytic converter. This is a known default due to design fault in 2. 0 litre engine. Since vehicle is off warranty, the repair replacement is going to cost over $10,000. 00. I understand this is affecting a serious number of Ford customers with this engine, a number of which have been quietly replaced under warranty. I feel Ford owes their customers replacement costs on this issue and a recall should be issued. If ones motor seizes up suddenly while driving it could result in injury or death. I have contacted Ford directly, and their response is it's out of warranty so I am out of luck.
Driving felt weird like the vehicle was stuttering and I heard liquid sloshing around as I was driving. Check engine light came on and turned off again on its own on 2 separate occasions within 2 weeks. The first time it came on, I made an appointment at the service center but the check engine light had gone off by the time I brought it in. I was told they couldn't diagnose it if the check engine light was off. When it came on again, I took it to my local Ford service center and they diagnosed it with coolant leaking into the cylinder, causing a misfire. The recommended solution is a full engine replacement costing over $8,000. Apparently this is a known issue and a service bulletin was issued in 2022 (before I bought the car used) but Ford is refusing to issue a recall. The car only has 65k miles.
