Transmission jumped out of gear when I turned the corner. 2nd Ford Edge I own that has done this. 1st car sitting in driveway waiting to get fixed.
I bought this car on 12/15 with 97k miles on it, and the second day it started jilting very badly when slightly acceleration. Now, I have noticed when I am at a stop light, it takes an additional 2-5 seconds to “jult” back up to speed while everyone else that was at the light is very much so ahead of me. There were a few times the car didn’t accelerate, and the person behind me almost hit me.
8f35 transmission - shudder/buck/jerk while driving up to 35 mph (57 km/h [xxx] dealership tells me I need new transmission . . . And that Ford won't help at all online bulletin says a software update can solve this - why has the dealership not done this? no warning lights ever information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle hesitated while depressing the accelerator pedal. Additionally, while driving 35-45 mph, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact stated that the vehicle choked and stalled. The driver was able to coast to the side of the roadway. The contact had since switched to premium fuel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the spark plugs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who determined that the vehicle was operating as designed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000.
No warning lamps came on but while crossing after stopping at a stop sign the car was jerking and did not want to accelerate almost causing me to get hit by another car. This issue has been present since around 45k miles. I’m currently at 85k on odometer. This was the first time I realized how dangerous this can be. I followed all traffic laws and due to the sluggishness of acceleration due to the jerking I was nearly hit. I went to the dealership and they said it was the torque converter gone bad. The same issue that has been the cause of recall on almost every other model of the same year, the 2020 Ford Edge. This has been ongoing issue for Ford because my mother has a 2016 Ford escape that was recalled for the torque converter. This is costing me a few thousand dollars to repair since they haven’t recalled my particular VIN. This will be the reason I never buy a Ford again!!!!!.
Have felt an issue with the transmission under 40k miles. Around 50-55k miles I got the transmission checked. Ford dealership/garage said it was the pcm that needed updating. After that, just under 60k miles I took it back for same issue and they ended up rebuilding the transmission. It has been driving fine but after another 20k miles (currently at 80k miles) it is starting to have the same issue. This is a problem because when trying to start to move forward, it will almost "stall" or "stutter" and has almost left me stuck in oncoming traffic while trying to turn. It has also caused issues while trying to accelerate on the highway too that have almost caused rear-end collisions. Looking through forms, it seems that most 2019+ Ford Edges have a problem with their transmissions and it's a common part that needs to be replaced.
I was traveling at about 60 miles per hour when I attempted to accelerate slightly to stay with traffic. It seemed like the car wouldn't change gears, but the engine decreased in power. It did not seem that the vehicle had any "power". The car would not increase in speed. I noticed the "wrench" warning light, which corresponds to the drive train of the car. I was able to coast into the next small town about a half mile from the location where I first noticed the issue. Applying the breaks slowed the vehicle. I placed the vehicle in park. The car would not change out of this gear again. The vehicle's gas pedal did not produce any forward or backward momentum in drive or reverse. The vehicle is at the Ford dealership for repair/inspection at this time. I can provide repair notes from the dealership. The vehicle could be made available for inspection upon request. If this drive train issue had happened on a busy highway, it may have been difficult to navigate off of the roadway safely without the ability to accelerate the car. If this issue had happened on an uphill road, the car would have lost speed rapidly, leading to a rear-end collision.
On 04-14-24 at 830am I was driving home from work as I turned on ridge road in jackson CA I felt the vehicle pull and not want to pick up speed to drive up the road like it wanted to stall and only rolled forward a bit. The vehicle then picked back up and I made it to the stop light at the end of the road once I stopped for less than 1 minute the light turned green, I tried to go and the vehicle shut off and began to roll back I had to step on the break and the car behind me reversed so I would not hit him and then the screen flashed a turn vehicle off and restart engine I tried multiple times about 6. Cars had to go around me as I was the first at the light. I finally got the car to turn on and white smoke came out the exhaust pipes I couldn’t put the car in drive. I tried to re start the vehicle again and got it into drive and was able to pull on the side of the highway and more white smoke came out still no vehicle warning signs came on but the screen flashed dimly like it wanted to turn off again. I flagged down a fire truck and called 911 for help the fighters stated it seemed like my engine had blown out and the coolant was completely drained and may have gotten inside the engine causing the white smoke but to take it to a mechanic to verify. I had the vehicle towed to my home. On the way to work that night it drove fine with no issues or warnings, or pulling, I ran errands the day prior and no light warnings came on nor was my vehicle temperatures out of place. I even had my car serviced on 02-17-24 and had no issues I keep up on the maintenance I got the vehicle used from enterprise with a mileage of 52,559 on 12-13-22 the vehicle now has only 96,634 I’ve had the car for only a year and 4 months it should not have had an engine issue l have made a claim with my insurance hoping to get help, I’m calling enterprise for warranty information if there’s any and Ford to see if there is any manufacturer warranties hoping to hear back this week.
Have had issues from day one. Lane centering hugs middle line, back up camera is black at times, when in drive screen is blank, all tools on steering have went out including turn signals, cruse control, collision avoidance flashes when no one is in front of me, brakes due to collision avoidance malfunction etc. In November 2021 car was in park ( know that for sure it was in park and not moving as fed ex came for delivery and walked around back of car to get package before accident) and rolled to front pinning me and breaking pelvis and back. During this incident the safety failed in park, anti collie on failed, 9 days in hospital and months of rehab. Again coming back from doctor lost steering controls. 7 weeks in shop and many calls to dealer and Ford motor they replaced main wiring harness stating to me in an email and in person this was the cause of all issues including the roll over. Just got car back on 6/17/22. Shall see if this fixes problem but I don’t even want to drive this car anymore! total miles to date 17,000.
