Failure Date: 08/31/2016

The ignition will not start when you turn the key and after several attempts it will eventually start.

37 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2016

When I go to start my Escape, I have to press really hard to get it to start. In the past few weeks it takes 10-15 mins of trying over and over to get it to work. I am afraid that it just will not work one day. I take the key out and flip it over. . . Does not help. All the dash lights come on. . . It recognizes the key. . . Just will not start.

38 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2016

My gas pedal completely broke and dropped down while driving on the freeway, and I could not move once the car came to a stop. I have google this particular issue with other Ford Escapes 2008, and many other folks have the same issue or are complaining about a sticky or loose gas pedal. This is a very serious and dangerous issue. I could have been involved in a very horrible accident, and other folks are at similar risk.

39 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2016

My ignition, some times it starts, some times I have trouble starting it, other times it doesn't start at all. !!.

40 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2015

Have to push the key in very hard to get the car to start or "jimmy" the key around very hard. Take at least five minutes to get the car to start because of key. Sometime it starts sometimes it doesn't. Key not turning over. Possibly ignition switch no working correctly. Everything else on the car has been checked out and it working fine. It's been difficult to get the ignition and key to work for months. Now they won't work at all.

41 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2015

Approximately 2 to 3 weeks ago I was sitting in a parking lot after shopping, went to start my car and it would not start. After about 10 minutes and several attempts the car finally turned over and started. I drove the car home and did not go out the rest of the day. This has happened several times. I called a mechanic and they said that it sounded like it was the starter. I did not think so, but took it to mechanic and they did the work and replaced the starter costing me money that I do not have as I am on a fixed income. Got the car back last week and yesterday was sitting in a car dealer lot and it happened again. This time it would not start and had to call for a ride after sitting in the hot 90 plus degree heat. My car is in the shop again today and they are going to try and see if they can figure out why it will not start. To me and my granddaughter it sounds like there is something faulty in the steering column. Either way, I am terrified that it will start a fire, or worse leave me stranded where no one can come and get me. I am an elderly woman and can not have these issues with my car. If this could be looked into and taken care of as soon as possible I would greatly appreciate it. I have the invoices from the work that has been done on this particular part of the car. Thank you for your time and prompt resolution of this matter.

42 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2015

Attempted to pull into uncoming traffic in a 45mph zone , but could not get to more than 10mph. The power train light appeared as a wrench bottom left of steering wheel. Glided/steered car immediatly to closest parking lot and called closest Ford dealership.

43 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2015

The ceiling liner of the car is falling off.

44 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2015

We have had throttle body problems since 2008. Ford dealer replaced it once in 2008. Throttle body sticks and you can't push the gas pedal down. This happens the first 5-15 min of starting the car. . It happened on 3-2-2015 while trying to cross a highway, could not push gas pedal down. We just abot got t boned ! also we have had the transmission replaced at 114000 miles. Dealer says we have transmission problem again and the throttle problem again.

45 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2015

Transmission is constantly leaking.

46 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2015

My car feels like it's jerking into gear. If started off only jerking when I would be at a corner and I needed to make a turn. The car would move very slow and then mum forward. This is very dangerous because any cars coming could possible hit me. After a while it would also jerk when I was stopped at a light and needed to pull off, the car would move forward slowly and then jerk forward. Now the jerking is happening while I'm driving. Is there something going on with this vehicle? I am scared that I'm going to get hit one day.

47 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2015

2008 Ford Escape faulty ignition in order to start the car the key must be pressed hard into the ignition while turning otherwise the car won't start. It has been getting worse and I feel there should be a recall so it can be fixed.

48 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2015

While driving the vehicle it stopped accelerating & lost rpms. The SUV jolted forward & back & did not have enough power to accelerate. It made a revving sound each time the gas pedal was pressed. At moments the SUV would accelerate slowly but then repeat the process over.

49 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2014

When I would try to accelerate whether from a stopped position or already in motion my gas pedal sticks. I'm unable to press it down and I lose speed. Each time I press the gas pedal or brake pedal I hear a pop. I was trying to merge onto the highway and it suddenly wouldn't let me accelerate for a few minutes. This is very dangerous and frightening. It also does this if I'm already in motion of if I try to accelerate from a stopped position. I fear for my life and the life of my family. I take my husband to work an hour away, this is terrifying and unacceptable. I also transport my children to their jobs and schools. Please help before someone gets killed.

50 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2014

Vehicle will not start ,had to be towed to dealer to be fixed costing over $300. 00 and on 12/01/2014 it happened again and was towed in to be fixed again costing over $700. 00 and the service manager just laughed and said that happens alot and at leased the Fords won't shut off like gm ,they just don't start. There should be a recall on Ford's ignitions too.

51 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2014

After years (since early on in the ownership of the vehicle purchased new from the dealer) of intermittent problems with my gas pedal sticking (mostly in colder weather), the most recent incident was by far the worst and, like many other 2008 Ford Escape owners with the same issue, I am very lucky that it occurred in an area where I was not in immediate danger from other cars. I was stopped at a stop sign and when I pressed the gas pedal to move forward the pedal started to respond then fell to the floor with no further response. There was no power to move forward and no warning lights came on. I lifted the pedal to make sure that it was not stuck on anything and it just fell limply back to the floor. I manipulated the arm under the pedal with my hand until it loosened up and the pedal was able to engage again. I then drove to my destination without further incident. This is not the first time this has happened and if my car does not become part of the "customer satisfaction program," I am sure that it will not be the last. The NHTSA investigation of alleged throttle body failures in 2005-2012 Ford Escape vehicles sharing the same or substantially similar part, did not result in enough vehicles being included in the resulting Ford "customer satisfaction program," which only included cars from 2009-2012, when it should have included many more cars. The complaint forums are filled with many complaints regarding the same issue from at least 2008 Ford Escape owners. To not include everyone from the initial investigation is doing a disservice and it will be sad day when the rest of the car owners are included only because somebody has died!.

52 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2014

The liftgate window latch on my 2008 Ford Escape XLT has separated from from the rear window glass. The glue joint has failed and allowed the latch to break away from the window. Now the window cannot be closed tightly and locked. This is a safety issue because the exhaust gases may be drawn into the cabin through the gap between the window and the window seal on the liftgate. It is also a security issue, since someone could easily pry the window open and enter the vehicle cabin. Originally, the latch was apparently glued to the glass and also is attached loosely with a single bolt to the rear window wiper assembly. Right now, the separated latch is flopping around in such a way that the window can be pulled open by about 1/2 to 1 inch. This is clearly a defect in the design of this latch on this vehicle. The latch is absolutely crucial to the security and safety of the occupants of the vehicle. I believe that the NHTSA should force Ford to recall their vehicles with this same insecure defective latch design and replace it with a secure design that will remain attached to the window glass.

53 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2014

As I was exiting a ramp, the car stopped accelerating completely. . Forcing me to pull over, as I continue on it does not accelerate when gas is pushed completely down. Wrench light came on but leaves when car is off. Driving aprox. 3 blocks before wrench light comes on again. . .

54 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

Two days ago, I was driving on the highway and suddenly, my gears started slipping. I was driving 45 mph and then my car decelerated to the point where I could no longer accelerate. This made it very difficult to get back home and I feared that I would be at risk for a crash. Immediately the next morning, I brought my car to a Ford dealer and they diagnosed the problem to be with the transmission. My options were to fix one band or the entire transmission. Upon doing research about this issue, I found that many other Ford customers had experienced the same problems with their 2008 Ford Escape's transmission.

55 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2014

My car is under recall for a major safety issue as the steering can go down. I have tried mutliple times to get a hold of fod dealers service departmants and cannot even get them to answer the phones in order to get my car repaired. It is a danger and I have no other car that I can drive.

56 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2014

I was driving through a crowded neighborhood with many people crossing the roads with the weather being warm. All of a sudden, the engine light and other dashboard lights came on, and the car stalled. The brakes would not work, so I turned on my hazard lights, held the horn down and waved frantically through my open window. Luckily I had enough space in front of me so I could allow the car to cruise to a halt. I unfortunately had to roll through a stop sign where the people were aware that I was having an issue with the car. Upon stopping the car and turning it off, I got out and looked under the hood for any smoke or other issues. I let the car sit on the side of the road for about 5-10 minutes, and then started it up again. I was within 2 minutes of my residence so I rolled the car all the way home with my hazards on. This could have been a serious situation with multiple injuries and/or fatalities (small children in area). Ford needs to fix this issue as soon as possible.

57 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2014

I am having trouble with my 2008 Ford Escape the ignition switch won't start my car. Since about 6 months ago I have to keep pushing my key in further and further to try to get my car to start. Sometimes it take 10-15 min before I can actually get it started. Reading comments about the car this is a major issue and there should be a recall done.

58 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2014

Steering wheel started to shake from side to side then lost power to steering wheel like it went from easy to very hard to steer. Turned car off the restarted and it was ok. Now it happens all the time. When I start car up no power, while I'm driving and I loss power.

59 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2014

The gas peddle sticks and raves up and other times the vehicle dies when starting from a stop position. The incident has happen multiple times and seems to be more when the vehicle is cold. So far there has not been a accident and mechanics are giving me multiple answers but cannot fix the issue. There is not a recall on the VIN number for my car but the issue is going to cause an accident for my car and me.

60 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2014

Power steering all of sudden went out while I was driving.

61 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2014

Key is difficult to turn in ignition. You have to push and turn really hard. Been ongoing for over a year. Every time I have my car serviced, I have to help the mechanics and I'm a woman. Ford dealership said the ignition switch and lock need replacing. $220 for parts with $734 as the total estimate with labor. It's getting harder to start which can be scary if I get stranded. I've never had this problem with a car. I've read at least 30 of the same complaints on the internet. Where is the recall,?.

62 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2014

Despite performing Ford's safety recall 14s05, my vehicle's power steering continues to fail, ceasing to operate for hours or days, along with loss of traction control. The unpredictable failures seem to be associated with torque sensor (wheel angle) faults at low outdoor temperatures (<10f). The last failure occurred with a guest at the wheel (in the driveway, thank goodness) resulting in her backing into a snow bank and damaging the tail pipe. Despite the clear documentation of this problem in NHTSA recall 14v-284, after two full days at the dealer, the service manager indicates Ford will not authorize any action until they can replicate the failure in real time. Does that mean they need to keep the car until the next cold front? or should I contact someone from Ford to come immediately to wherever I am when the steering next fails? will that be from a ditch on the side of an icy road when steering suddenly activates or deactivates without warning? given the very well documented problems with the Ford Escape electronic power steering system, I would expect Ford to authorize at least the next step in repairing this problem immediately. I would also expect a very reasonably priced repair of the damaged tail pipe connection. Unfortunately, according to bob 62225, a second tier Ford customer relations manager, "there is absolutely nothing Ford can do to correct this problem unless is occurs while at the dealer. ".

63 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2013

My vehicle has been exhibiting issues relating to the Ford consumer satisfaction program 13n03 where the accelerator "sticks" or doesn't respond to my pressure. Requiring more pressure then usual, the vehicle will then surge forward for an incredibly jostling acceleration. This issue will happen not only when stopped but also when in motion. This becomes particularly problematic when trying to merge or turn into moving traffic as I am never sure whether or not my accelerator/ throttle body will respond as it should. I have been experiencing this issue for over 2 years, but the issue is intermittent. The issue becomes worse in cold weather, making it even more dangerous when road conditions are slippery. I contacted Ford regarding this issue, citing the above mentioned consumer satisfaction program, but I was told that my VIN number was not included in the program and the repair would not be covered. It seems ludicrous that my vehicle, which has been identified as having this issue, would not be included in the program. Ford should reevaluate the vehicles that are included in this program, because the problem is obviously more wide-spread than there program has identified. I am incredibly disappointed in their customer service and their non-responsiveness in handling this issue.

64 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2013

My wrench light came on, feels like I have no power. It will only go about 20 mph, rpm's go high and then all of a sudden it will kick in and start driving normal.

65 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2013

I was driving on the freeway when my hood blew up, I could not see! I was on the right side of the lanes and by lowering my head I could see a small area and was able to pull over. I was lucky nobody was injured. I have to get my hood replaced because it was damaged.

66 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2013

Just had the transmission on my 2008 Ford Escape give out on me. After reading multiple articles on the web, I saw it was a common issue with Ford. Apparently there was a service notice for a Ford car with the same transmission as my Escape. I find it ridiculous that I have less than 50k miles on my vehicle and now am having to fix the transmission. I feel like Ford should fix this issue at no cost to me because they are using faulty transmissions. That they know are defective.

67 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

After being at a stop my 2008 Ford Escape surges forward with the slightest acceleration being given to the gas pedal. I have nearly rear ended people on several occasions. I can't afford a new car. How safe is this for myself and a 4 year old son!?.

68 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2013

Ac started blowing hot air. Called dealership. When I took it there, started blowing cold again. Has blown hot air for 30-40 minutes 2 more times then blow cold and act fine. Monday, dropped off at dealership, they kept overnight, fixed moisture packs or something they called them. Picked up car day before yesterday. Yesterday, blew hot air again. Went back to dealership, it was blowing cold again. They don't know what else to do and they are a Ford dealership!!!.

69 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2013

This is my second complaint, same issue. Again, yesterday driving at about 30 mph the car just shut off. No problems immediately before, no sounds, nothing. It just stalled. Started up right away. No problems driving after except it did feel like it jerked a bit (almost unnoticeable except now I am very aware of this) on two occasions within 5 minutes after the stall. This car was purchases as a used vehicle back in Jan. It is a 2008. I also filed a complaint yesterday on this same issue which occurred just in the last few days and again a couple of weeks ago. So this is the 4th "stall" since I purchased the vehicle 7 weeks ago.

70 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2013

I was driving and the power steering went out! I struggled to maintain the Escape on the curve. I pulled off the road and shut off the car, when I turned it back on I was able to turn the wheel but that didn't last very long. I parked it for awhile and borrowed a car but I had to return it so now I'm driving and just praying I don't loose all control. Today it was diagnosed, need a new power steering electric motor, cost between 1300-1500 dollars! that is something that shouldn't be happening, Ford needs to fix this problem. I see how many complaints there are when I checked it out at all locations online.
