general problems of the 2014 Ford Escape

Abs braking not functioning, power steering failure , speedometer and odometer failure, air bag indication of non function. Warning indications on dash illuminated at once when failures occured the loss of functioning air bags, power steering, abs braking are all possible safety risks, most especially when combined at once. Vehicle has been diagnosed by a registered Ford dealership. Problems diagnosed as a failure of the electrical abs system module by the Ford dealership. Dealership expressed that this was a known issue and all repair parts are currently out of stock and on national back order with no eta for availability. This leaves the vehicle in a condition that makes it a safety hazard to be driven , for myself and others. Documentation unavailable at this time from dealership, verbal conversation, still awaiting repair options. Vehicle has been in dealership since 11/03/2025.

The abs, anti-lock braking sytem symbol came on about 3 or 4 months ago. Other symbols that came on were the brake system (circle with exclamation point in it), the red word "brake", the stability control light, and the speedometer stopped working/ the information display stopped working. We have taken the car to three local Ford service departments to have it checked only to be told the abs part is on back order. Furthermore, I've read that the brakes could be compromised. No speedometer or display functions is dangerous. The only receipt I have tells me it is the abs module that is on back order.

Driving along at 60 mph suddenly my car stops going in heavy traffic and won't move,, then it accelerated to high rpms and was stuck, then it hard shifted into gear and it lundged forward fast and went about 5 feet then it wouldn't move. Almost got killed on a busy hwy. Because of it accelerating on its on out into traffic while it was in park, then just came to a dead stop. The only way I can describe is it was not moving in park, then it was like it shifted by itself and lundged forward and stoped like it was slammed into park from a high speed but it did it this on it's own while the shifter was in park. It took off again and I drove it to the side of the hwy, and turned it off. Called and got a friend who has a trailer to come tow me. I cranked my car to see if it would move to get it on the trailer. I slowly drove it up on the ramps and got about half way up, then it stopped wouldn't move again, still in drive it rolled back down the ramps on its own, I was just sitting there and it was idling was like the rpms were higher than normal so I shut it off for a minute. Got back in it cranked it up put it in drive and it wouldn't move, put in in reverse it backed up but it was revved up and shifted hard, so I put it back in park and it spit and spuddered so I shifted to neutral an then car just shifted into drive and took off on it's on and drove up missing the ramps and ran into the back of his trailer, crushing my front end. Then it wouldn't move again. Winched it on the trailer, got home and it drove to get it off the trailer, but I'm terrified to drive it.

The car takes off late (delayed) after pushing on the gas pedal. The shifting is also not responding, for example, I placed the car in “reverse” gear and the car actually went forward like it was in drive.

I got off work and was heading home one of the streets I devon is uphill. As I’m driving up the hill the car just started rolling backwards. I hit the breaks and turned car off and back on and even thought it was I. Drive it would only go backwards. No matter what I did it was jerking and acting like it didn’t have power even though the rpm’s was up. I mechanic came to check on me and during his inspection we discovered damages to the passenger inner tire end rod and struts so I had that repaired and the the front axle need replacing cause it wasn’t even turn to move the wheels. So I had to replace that as well. I assumed the axle was the issue but it still was driving like it didn’t want to go forward. I then say the some transmission stuff on recall so I just parked it until the pets was available. My car stopped in July 2022 and I just got the repairs done August 21,2023. I drove it about 30miles total and now I have a red indicator light that say trasmission fault service now!!! this is absolutely unacceptable and Ford motor company really need to fix these transmission failure problems. Before all the recalls kills somebody. There are no indicators that tell you something is wrong until it’s wrong. Peoples lives are in danger more and more everyday the fact the manufacturers only care about the consumers money and not their safety is mind blowing. Selling badly made vehicles and the consumers are the one who suffer the most!!!!I hope y’all look into this very soon and help the little people that’s really trying to help ourselves!!!! had 70,000 miles when I purchased it and now 7 years later it has on 105,200 miles on it…. Not sure van 40000 miles in 7 years. With other minor breakdowns I didn’t name.

Transmission fault error code. The transmission is not shifting into gear whether I am trying to go forward or backwards. I have been stranded twice within the last six months because of this issue.

It seems like my transmission kicked out on me in the middle of a busy intersection. Now my car is stuck at work while I figure out where to take it and how to pay for transmission repairs.

So I called nelson Ford today they told me that I had 3 recalls on my vehicle according to the website here I've had 15 recalls they say I had 3 recalls. Now my car hesitates when it accelerates and doesn't shift right they say that the recall as nothing to do with the transmission itself. That the recalls only covers the cable bushing only and if it fails then they will fix it only of I can't move the car and that I get it towed in. And now I have a lemon and I can't offord to replace the transmission if the same problem exists . And I feel like Ford is not taking responsibility for there lemon car.

I'll be driving along and sometimes going 30 miles an hour sometimes going up to 65 70 miles an hour on the interstate and while I'm accelerating the car will start shaking like the the whole thing wil. In the only way that it stops is if I let off the accelerator and go slower speed accelerate you know what it means there's that magic speed but like if I have my cruise control on then it has to be at a certain speed because otherwise it will just start shaking and shaking and shaking.

Every time I put my car in park and I take my foot off the break it rolls back a little. I did have a overheating warning and my rear camera didn’t work and it is also upside down.

I was driving in manhattan and stopped on east 5th street in the east village on my way home at around 7 pm. I stopped the car on a bit of a diagonal in the middle of the street in order to get out and quickly hand something off to someone there. I put the car in park and stepped out for maybe 30 seconds without even closing my door. Then when I got back in and tried to drive the car I had no ability to shift into any gear. The gear shifting didn’t click in in any way. The car didn’t register as in park. No lights highlighted the gear on the dashboard. The 4 tires were locked but the steering wheel moved freely and everything else in the car seemed to be perfectly fine. No warning lights came on. We turned the car off and back on many times hoping the computer system would resolve the issue - but that never changed the situation. I could not drive this car. I could not move the car. I was blocking other cars. I called aaa which took an hour and a half to get to me. I had aaa put the car on a flat bed truck and bring it to my darien CT driveway ( at great expense) and then the next morning spoke with my Ford dealership and had aaa move the car to the dealership while now having to take a subway and a train to get back to darien I looked up what could be wrong and discovered there had been a recall of many 2014 Escapes in 2018 to replace a faulty bushing which could detach from the transmission cable and make it impossible to control the gears. My Escape was not recalled - but it certainly should have been because that is exactly what happened. This was very dangerous and expensive. I’m extremely disturbed that had my Escape been fixed in this recall this then would not have happened to me. And my life would not have been in jeopardy. What if this happened minutes later when I was again driving in nycity or on the highway ? the Ford dealership in stamford CT discovered that “the shifter cable bushing on transmission is broken and not connected to transmission…”.

Driving on the highway I lost braking power the brake vacuum pump ceased up and broke the bolt in the cam shaft that had to be drilled out and replaced then that caused more damage to the cam and bottom end of the motor for the motor to throw the following codes: p0365 p0369 p0012 p0299 b1215 p0234 u3008 u3003 u0300 p1594 u0140 u0154 u2300 u0422 b1b36 with all these codes I did the following and am now without a vehicle thanks to Ford. This vehicle only has 58000 miles is single owner and was well maintained till this incident now I am told the motor has to be rebuilt as the cam and bottom end are the issues with this vehicle and this has happened to a lot of people and could have cause a crash or deadly accident as no brakes and now no vehicle. The three sensors were replaced and brake vacuum pump and bolt that drives the pump from the cam along with new spark plugs and valve cover gaskets plus oil change and filter plus new battery and tires along with front rotors calipers brake pads and rear rotors and brake pads. I blame Ford for this as this is a well known issue with 2014 to 2019 models of Ford Escape titanium 2. 0l eco boost engine with turbo. Garages all over the us and canada have been just replacing the engines due to poor engineering on Fords part and I believe Ford should be held responsible to the engines replacement as it is not even 60000 miles and I try to take good car of my vehicle only to have none now to drive. Ford should be held responsible.

I tried to park my car as usually, put the shift in p, but the car continued to move. I was scared and unpleasantly surprised. I had to to drive around the parking lot in front of home depot in dickson city and finally decided to turn of the car. After that I was not able to turn on the engine. I had the car towed away to gibbons Ford.

What can cause my 1. 6l Ford Escape titanium 2014 to be hesitant when I push down on gas and then suddenly the power kics in back after about 5 seconds. It like its not getting enough gas at the start! no check engine on - jc tampa FL.

After purchasing my Ford my transmission went out while driving. I replaced it and a year later had my recall replaced for my coolant sensor. While this happened I had no idea my coolant level was so low because my warning light never came on in return damaged the hose. So I had to spend $562 to replace that to make sure the recall was put on correctly. When I returned to pick up my car I couldn't even drive it out because it started jerking and feels like my transmission is going out again. This 2014 Ford Escape has some serious problems with the transmission. Not to mention after so many miles of driving I have to take out my fuse to reset my bluetooth radio.

My 2014 Ford is leaking engine coolant into my engine as well as oil. Which is causing my car to decrease in acceleration and has caused my car to stall on city street. I took my car to a Ford dealership and they made it worst by not recognizing that this was a problem concerning a recall on Ford and refuses to fix my car.

While driving, my vehicle suddenly shows a low coolant than engine overheat message. It immediately begins to shut down, speed rapidly decreases and power steering is lost. I must stop the car, place it in park, shut it off, wait a few minutes than restart it. Service engine light remains on. The vehicle was traveling between 55 and 65 mph on the major freeway where the posted speed limit is up to 70 mph, 3 lanes of traffic. Since the loss of power is immediate and I have no control over it, I have very little time to get out of the way of other vehicles before I am in crawl mode. The vehicle was just into the dealership for repairs and I was told it was fixed. Coolant is not low, engine had not overheated and there is no warning that there is an issue until 30 seconds before it starts shutting down. Has happened twice now and it was supposedly fixed after the first time. My vehicle has no open recalls and it has been into the dealership twice in the past 2 weeks with regards to the overheat issue.

Car kept stalling in the middle of the road and then completely stalled out after going 40mph. No indication of a transmission error. Changed transmission fluid and still doesn't want to drive. Sometimes the acceleration on the vehicle is terrible and the ac gives out and I need to constantly turn it off and turn it back on to work. Having to tow it to Ford because it's not drivable and spend all this money on a car I'm still paying for, getting rid of it and not buying another Ford ever again.

Every time I get gas the car have trouble starting back up. The vehicle accelerate on it's own while driving, and randomly stops. Today 10/28/2019 I was on the eway going west of 465 indianapolis and the car slowed down nstopped before I can even pull over. I sat there for 5 mins car off and it turned back on. I have to shut the car off n start back up. Engine light battery and trans light have all came on amd it shuts off and come back on like nothing ever happened yet auto shops can not find a diagnostic for the problem. This is an ongoing issue and I have only had this car for a month.

I'll be driving, the it will stop and throw up the oil light, battery light and the airbag light. I took it to the Ford dealership on 122nd st in portland, they said they couldn't find anything wrong because it wasn't throwing any codes. Now I'm sitting on the side of the road and the error code says engine fault service now. I've had regular maintenance on the car so not sure why this is happening. Cars/suvs shouldn't just stop working while you're driving them.

My car has 15 recalls and 3 different Ford dealerships refuses to do recall work this has gone on for more than 2 years. They claim to have done recall work that has not been done. It has a defective transmission. It took off while in park and hit a tow truck.

This car has had 13 recalls since manufactured for different mechanical and safety issues some even resulting in spontaneous eruption of fire to the engine bay. While replacing my battery the delearahip notified me of several recalls that required attention, so I had them replace each item that had been recalled, one of which was a sensor within the transmission. After I took the vehicle to have it replaced subsequently, maybe 6 months later I had driving issues while operating it on the expressway. The vehicle would go in and out of gear while driving and I could not control the speed of the vehicle. This occurred the entire drive home to the point where I had to drive with hazard lights on so that I would not get rear ended for having intermittent speed/driving issues. The car would literally over rev the the engine as if I was flooring the pedal when I wasn't even touch the gas at all. The sensor literally took control of the engine as if it was driving itself. I didn't drive it until the next morning then the next day, the only way to drive it was if I slowly transitioned speeds. I had to take the vehicle to have the same sensor replaced. After replacing the sensor it stills seems to need to be driven slower than when I first bought it or it might break again. This is a safety hazard. I'm afraid to drive the vehicle with my daughter in it due to the fact that I might have mechanical issues while driving again & be on the highway to have a high speed collision with a toddler would kill one or both of us. This model in particular has had more recalls than any car I've ever had or even heard of having. I have to continue making payments on it due to my negative equity yet it isn't reliable enough to get me to work everyday. Ford needs to replace this model for all owners.

A dozen times now when we start it up it run real ruff and will lurch, the rpms go up but not mph being gained. I have to pull over and turn it off and restart and it runs fine. We get a message that reads "engine fault service now". When we take it to the dealer they can't fine any errors on when they hook it up to their computer. This has happened multiple times within the last week and over the almost 4 years I've owned the car. I was driving it on a city street and had just backed out of my drive way, other times it's happened has been on city streets shortly after pulling forward, and those times I had not backed up at all prior to it doing it. This morning when it happened I almost had someone rear-end me because my car would not get above 5mph. I had driven about a block from my home before the error message came on and was forced to pull over. Thankfully I wasn't on the highway yet.

Transmission has a hard shift from time to time making it feel like the engine is just going to fall out. It does not happen during a specific occurrence but it seems as if the transmission is delayed going gear to gear wether it be from park to reverse to drive, or from gears 1-5.

Instrument panel flickers and goes black. We are told this is the software update which is part of a recall. However, the recall does not cover this date of manufacture.

February 2017, vehicle in motion, 50 mph & suddenly alarm/engine light & temp gauge went crazy, vehicle stalls out from overheating in left lane of 2 ln hwy. Able to cruise to shoulder. Knew it was an issue w/ radiator or coolant from the smell & warning on dash. In close proximity of store where friend works so waited 45 min to cool& vehicle did start. Able to nurse it over to the parking lot that was 5min away, eng light stayed on. Time of incident was 8:00 pm viewing engine under better light,coolant was critically low. Purchased coolant from store where refilled reservoir, waited until he was off work, 9:20 pm, so can follow me home in case I need more assistance. Arrive at my home without incident, engine light on. In following days, I monitor coolant for 2 weeks& figure its an isolated incident. Engine lt remains on for 7 days. After 3wks, need to top off coolant as it drops under fill line. I purchased this vehicle @19kmi & time of incident had 35k miles. Feeling it is a bit unusual to have these issues at such low mileage but im no expert,figured something that needs to be monitored reg as the temp gauge reads normal/no engine/warning light has been on since. I received in April-safety recall17s09/17v-209. I read that repair not available until late 2017& I will be notified by Ford when to sched. Service appt for cooling sys. Upgrade. Have not rcvd any further notice & have had to top off the coolant once again. Letter states to "maintain proper coolant level to reduce risk of overheating that can lead to a fire" am I reducing risk only? not eliminating this risk? idid some research, leading me to this complaint. I'm financing this vehicle for $380/mth & very unhappy with this situation & am not sure of my options if there is no resolution yet. I do not want to break down in traffic again if there is a risk of repeating the initial incident, or worse.

Engine light keeps on and off with not a reason and when I bring the car for an oils change into the dealer they are saying that is not important and it is going off when the oil is changed. I also notice that the car is very short after the gently breakdown. The other issue is the unexpected acceleration itself, even if I do not use the accelerator pedal. This happens anywhere anyhow and when the vehicle is in motion.

I experienced on three occasions that this vehicle misfires, stumbles, shudders and almost shuts off under heavy acceleration while attempting to merge onto a highway. The last time this problem occurred I was forced to pull onto the breakdown lane and almost caused an accident due to highway traffic traveling at 70 mph and my inability to attain a suitable merging speed. I have further observed that this situation has only occurred and could be replicated during rain and high humidity. This problem is a definite safety hazard that needs to be addressed!.

"engine fault service now light" came on twice with "hill start assist not available" both times. After stopping at traffic light and stepping on gas pedal, car would not move and gave no indication it had stalled. All normal lights were on. I put car in "park" and restarted. This has happened twice on hills and has died on me four times.

Travelling center lane on route 81, at 65 mph, car lost all throttle, felt like it came out of gear, while driving, and could not get into gear. Managed to get off to shoulder. Had a tractor trailer been behind me, there is no doubt they would've hit me. Apparently the dealership had 3 other Ford Escapes with the same problem in their shop. Another friend of mine just purchased her Ford Escape a couple of months ago, and she had the same problem. I feel this is a safety issue, as this happened while I was traveling at 65mph.
