36 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2024

I replaced the transmission in 02/2023. Then the bushing failed in 08/2023. Had it replaced at dealership (after paying $150 for diagnostic & $200 for towing. . . . Then the bushing failed again last Tuesday (xxx). Was told not longer covered by Ford despite it previously recalled. Then repaired again. Broke same night. $250 in towing. . . . Repaired Saturday - yesterday. Now the bushing is out again today (Sunday). This is ludicrous. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

37 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2024

We bought this car used from the Ford dealership in ellensburg wa in 2021. It had 79k at the time. We performed a lot of maintenance on the vehicle; new tires, alignment, coolant flush, transmission flush, spark plugs, and updated the synce software. Then the turbo failed about 5 months later. And we replaced the turbo with a brand new one at the same dealership for 5k. Then we replaced the coolant system. We performed all the recalls as they came in, regarding the transmission shifter and something to do with a solenoid, and we never missed an oil change. In September 2024 the transmission failed and it needs a whole new one. There's a class action lawsuit in CA for the type of transmission in this year of Ford Escape, but it's only for CA residents. Too bad. It's been less than 3 years since we bought it, we've paid twice the price it's worth in repairs and on maintenance, and now it's junk. Don't buy an Escape!.

38 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2024

At 120k the transmission went bad. Dealership charged $7k to replace. We chose to replace because it was cheaper than buying a new vehicle. A few months after the transmission was repaired, we started losing a lot of coolant. The dreaded coolant leak through the head gasket into cylinder 2 is the diagnosis. Dealer, told us $12k for a new motor. This is not okay!!!.

39 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2024

The contact owned a 2015 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at highway speeds, the vehicle died without warning. Due to the failure, the contact was left stranded in the middle of the highway. While the contact was on the phone with 911, another vehicle crashed into the contact's vehicle from behind. The air bags did not deploy upon impact. The contact sustained mental trauma due to the accident, but no physical injuries. The police arrived at the scene and a police report was filed. The whereabouts of the other driver were unknown. No medical attention was rendered at the scene. No property damage was reported. The vehicle was towed to an independent tow yard where the vehicle was deemed a total loss. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

40 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2024

Vehicle overeheated and stalled. Engine light came on. Had it to garage who told me call Ford because vehicle needed a new engine. Got a second opinion a few months later, and they confirmed that coolant was leaking in to the spark plug cylinders. And yes it needed a new engine. Prior: at 80000 miles the transmission needed replaced. I was told that my my car was notorious for needing transmissions and engines.

41 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2024

Been having shifting problems since I got the vehicle at a dealership, the car will hang onto the rpm’s for a couple seconds then slam into gear, mostly while shifting up. Had the recall taken care of for the bushing a shifter cable problem, the hanging and slamming shifting issue still persists. Took the car to a Ford dealership and was told that my clutch is disintegrating and that an entire new transmission was needing, quoting me at least $5000. Now I don’t know about yall, but I don’t have that type of money to just throw away into a car. If the car was designed and released to the public with a crappy transmission and known to be a problem, then Ford motor company needs to no longer exist.

42 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2024

My daughter borrowed my car and experienced a loud rattling noise. We had it towed to our local shop who recommended bringing it to a Ford dealership for the issue. We had it towed there and I was informed after they looked at it that we had a cracked flex plate. It horrifies what could have happened while she was in the car. There was a check engine light on, but that was not connected to this issue apparently because I had to pay an additional cost to get that fixed. I have never heard of a cracked flex plate but when I googled it I found Ford had several recalls for it, but not attached to my VIN.

43 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2024

Was driving normal, got an engine fault light then overheated. Engine has coolant intrusion. Ford won’t do anything about it!!.

44 Power Train problem

The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 143,000.

49 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2024

The transmission has failed and is available for inspection. I was concerned for my safety because one minute the car would move and then it was as if I lost all power and then boom it would throw it's self in gear and take off with no throttle response when you touched the pedal. No the vehicle has not been inspected by anyone listed above. There were no other problems or warnings before this took place the only time I got a warning was a day later when I went to go load the car up on the trailer to take it to my mechanic. The issue occurred on 04-25-2024.

50 Power Train problem

The dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the VIN had been included in NHTSA campaign number: 22v413000 (power train) and 20v331000 (latches/locks/linkages). The dealer confirmed that NHTSA campaign number: 22v413000 (power train) had been completed. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired since the contact had taken ownership of the vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

51 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2024

Ford has not fixed the recall or offered a solution resulting in our car's transmission shift cable breaking while my wife was driving, resulting in her being stuck in the middle of the street blocking traffic. The car was stuck in the middle of the street blocking traffic and buses for about an hour until a tow truck could come. We could not shift the vehicle out of park - the shifter moved freely forward and back, while depressing the shift button, but without *actually* shifting to neutral, drive, or reverse. We could not move the car at all, despite pushing or trying to shift it. This occurred in front of our home on Friday, April 19th, 2024. A tow truck towed the vehicle to our local repair shop where they identified the broken transmission shift cable and repaired it which we paid out of pocket. This could have occurred anywhere or in a dangerous intersection with the potential to cause harm to her, others, or any of her passengers like our infant son. I was notified of this recall in 2022 by a Ford dealership and have yet to see a resolution. My concern is now that the replacement Ford transmission shift cable will exhibit the same problem as before unless they make a better cable or mechanism! this also cost us over 5 hours of labor equaling $546 + parts, which we should not have to pay for. Ford should cover this cost completely and give us a reliable transmission shift cable.

52 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2024

The dealership came and changed the recalled transmission part on my car while I was at work. When I got off I left work to go home and had only drove about 5 miles when my car rpms went above 4000 and the car downshifted really hard and dropped from 65mph to barely moving. I pulled over and called the dealership who changed the part since my car had not had any transmission problems before this. They come to where I was and began driving my car at 4000rpm or above for several miles and shifting through gears manually. Once the car would barely move he pulled into a church and had it towed stating I need internal transmission work and it is not their fault. No warning lights came on in the dash even when he put a computer to it he seen that it had no codes in it at all. This recalled part being changed has lead to me having no way to go because they say it is not thier fault yet I had no issues until they touched my car. And why didn't I have a warning light????.

53 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2024

My cluster panel went dead and there was a recall for it but the first owner got it fixed and Ford wouldn’t do it for me. I couldn’t afford to get it fixed and so it stayed dead. My car eventually broke down on me while driving because I was unable to read the transmission fault warning (because the cluster panel doesn’t work). I just had to buy a whole new transmission and Ford is still refusing to fix their failed recall. Had it been taken care of, I would have seen the warning and not drove my car until it broke down.

54 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/26/2024

I have 2 Ford Escapes, a 2015 (referenced in this complaint) and a 2016. Both have experienced catastrophic transmission failure within weeks of each other. The transmission would slip, shudder and eventually disable and indicate service is needed. This happened while traveling highway speeds and the vehicle became disabled on the highway. As it was sudden, there was not time to get it safely off of the road and presented hazards to me and other drives until a tow truck could be engaged.

55 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2024

The contact owns a 2015 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving the vehicle, it made a loud noise and went into limp mode. The transmission fault service soon light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic and a diagnostic was performed and the contact was informed the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to cost. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 139,000.

56 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2024

The contact owns a 2015 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the transmission malfunctioned causing the vehicle to jerk and lose motive power before the vehicle stalled. After restarting the vehicle, the message "transmission malfunction" was displayed. The vehicle was towed to the local transmission mechanic who rebuilt the transmission, and the vehicle was repaired. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.

57 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2024

The contact owns a 2015 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while the daughter was driving approximately 45 mph the vehicle began to loose automotive power and stalled. The vehicle was eventually towed to the local mechanic who replaced the engine's turbo and shift cable bushing but the failures continued to occur. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures but no assistance was offered. The local dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 130,000.

58 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2024

The contact owns a 2015 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving 60 mph and depressing the accelerator pedal, the rpms revved, but the vehicle failed to respond and decelerated to 17 mph. The contact stated that she continued driving and pulled into the nearest gas station. The message "transmission fault" was displayed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with transmission failure. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 91,000.

59 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2024

I was driving down the road and all of a sudden my vehicle lurched forward despite me depressing the brakes then would not shift into any gear or move at all. I turned the vehicle off waited 10 minutes and attempted to restart the vehicle so that I could move into a safer area out of traffic. The vehicle began shaking and would not go into gear but did roll enough that I was able to move out of the way of incoming traffic. There were no warning lights displayed on the dash and the vehicle was not malfunctioning prior to the event. The other issue has been that the backup camera repeatedly fails to function at all. Instead the screen is either blue or black and no images are visible.

60 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2024

The contact owns a 2015 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while the transmission was shifted into drive (d) and reverse (r), the vehicle failed to move. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was determined that the ptu, front axles, cv axle shafts, and bearing retainer needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the transmission had previously been replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 118,000.

61 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/22/2023

My transmission failed on 12-22-23 not the recall that is on it already I mean completly failed just stipped working all together with no warning of a problem until 2 days later when I got it to the transmission shop 2 weeks prior my thermostat failed with no warning the transmission shop made me aware they have alot of Ford Escapes with failed transmissions my vehicle only had 83,794 miles at the time I have always done regular oil changes I would like to have this issue further investigated for recall issue as I have driven vehicles with over 200,000 miles and never had a transmission issue.

62 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2023

The contact owns a 2015 Ford Escape. The contact stated while stopped at a traffic signal, the vehicle started to vibrate and made an abnormal sound from under the floorboards. The contact shut off and restarted the vehicle and was able to drive to his destination. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact later drove the vehicle to a dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the transmission flex plate had cracked and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 128,000.

63 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2023

The contact owns a 2015 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, he noticed a burning odor. Additionally, the contact stated that while making a right turn from a complete stop, he depressed the accelerator pedal, but the vehicle hesitated to respond. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated while driving several days later, the vehicle made an abnormal winding and knocking sound. An independent mechanic inspected the vehicle at the residence and determined that the abnormal sound was due to the torque converter not receiving enough fluid from the transmission pump. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving. The contact stated that while accelerating from a four-way stop, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact was able to push the vehicle to the side of the road with the assistance of bystanders. The contact stated that he turned off and restarted the vehicle, and he was able to drive to the nearby independent mechanic. The mechanic referred the contact to a Ford dealer for assistance. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with internal transmission failure, which caused the low transmission fluid pressure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 87,265.

64 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2023

The transmission has failed and fuel propulsion. While driving on the highway with no warning it slowed down considerably, which almost caused me to be rear-ended. Yes, it's even inspected. No warning lamps. Please check, there are hundreds of 2015 Ford Escapes with faulty trans and fuel propulsion issues.

65 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/17/2023

I have coolant leaking into cylinder 4 of my 1. 6l engine. I’m constantly having to refill my coolant tank because the coolant is getting burned up when it leaks into my engine which in turn produces big white clouds of smoke from my exhaust pipe. It is available for inspection. I’m constantly worried for my safety because my car could potentially overheat and lead to a fire if my coolant is going elsewhere other than its designated place. My car has been to numerous mechanics in order to figure out the issue and has recently been confirmed on December 7th, 2023, by dave knapp Ford located in greenville, ohio that there is coolant leaking into cylinder 4. My car has not been inspected by any other higher ups. My engine light has not been working since the day we bought the car in August of 2023 for reasons we do not know of, so we were not instantly notified that there was an issue with the engine. The symptoms we did notice were loss of coolant almost everyday even after filling up, no visible puddles of coolant on the ground, white smoke from exhaust, a burning smell, bubbling in coolant tank, violent shaking of entire car, car dying after starting engine, and very low rpm when in idle. These symptoms really became visible at the start of November of 2023 and have gotten worse since then to the point where my car barely wants to start.

66 Power Train problem

67 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2023

Was in the middle of driving and hit the accelerator and the car would not go anywhere. Mechanic/Ford dealership said it was the transmission, that the trans pump fluid wasn't pumping correctly and it caused the trans to fail. Had no warnings that anything was wrong. Needed an entirely new transmission then was charged for extra parts(nuts, bolts), in addition to the new transmission. Cost was $7336. 47.

68 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2023

The contact owns a 2015 Ford Escape. The contact stated that shortly after having the vehicle serviced by the dealer, while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who diagnosed a general failure with the eco boost engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 88,000.

69 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2023

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? the transmission failed in 2018 whilst it was still under warranty and a local Ford dealer fixed it under warranty. In 2023 the trans totally failed. Yes it is available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I was driving on an expressway at the time it happened which was terrifying but also put me, my passenger, and other drivers at risk as I tried to pull it over to the side. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes, it was confirmed by the warning message displayed on my vehicle's screen. It was confirmed by roy o'brien Ford in 2018, shores care care center in 2018 & 2023. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? no were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no; the failure came totally out of the blue. The first warning indicator displayed after the transmission totally failed.
