I am reporting a serious engine safety issue involving coolant intrusion into the engine, resulting in misfires, loss of power, and potential engine failure while driving. My vehicle began experiencing rough starts after sitting overnight, including shaking and hesitation. In a few dayna, the issue worsened and is now accompanied by the following: * coolant loss requiring refill approximately every other day * sweet smell of coolant coming from the exhaust * occasional white smoke from the exhaust on startup * gurgling sound behind the dashboard during startup * loss of engine power and hesitation when accelerating * engine warning message: “engine fault – service now” diagnostic trouble codes retrieved: * p0300 – random/multiple cylinder misfire * p0302 – cylinder 2 misfire * p0316 – misfire detected on startup * p0339 – crankshaft position sensor intermittent * p059f – active grille shutter malfunction * p06e9 – engine starter performance issue I brought the vehicle to a repair shop where I was informed that coolant is entering the engine and mixing with the oil. I was also told there is evidence of oil leakage from the turbocharger area. The shop indicated that the engine likely requires replacement due to internal failure, with an estimated repair cost between $10,000 and $15,000. No prior warning of coolant intrusion was given during a recent service visit approximately one week earlier. This issue creates a serious safety risk because the engine may fail unexpectedly while driving. The problem appears to worsen after the vehicle sits, increasing the risk of failure during normal daily use such as commuting or transporting my child. Based on my research, similar issues involving coolant intrusion have been reported in Ford vehicles equipped with the 1. 5l ecoboost engine. This appears to be a known defect that can lead to engine failure without adequate warning. I am requesting that this issue be investigated as a potential safety defect.
2019 Ford Escape titanium 2. 0l ecoboost, VIN [xxx] , ~51,000 miles, built March 2019. Sioux falls Ford performed full TSB 19-2346 / 22-2229 diagnostic on April 23, 2026 and confirmed coolant intrusion into cylinder #3 with visible damage on borescope. Check engine light has occurred four times. Ford customer care (case ##cxh-xxx-xxx) denied goodwill. Known design flaw. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Cylinder 4 misfire code caused a check engine light. Brought to mechanic who replaced all spark plugs and the cylinder 4 coil pack. The code came back later that day. I started noticing a low coolant level and one instance of white smoke on startup. I brought the vehicle to the dealer for diagnostic and was diagnosed with coolant intrusion in the engine block. This is a well reported and well known issue for this and other similar vehicles and Ford has not addressed this with a recall. It is a design flaw associated with multiple model years. The cost to repair the issue is more than the cost of the vehicle itself. If the problem persists, it could result in a crack in the engine, which could become a major safety hazard depending on the circumstances. Ford should provide coverage for these repairs affecting hundreds of thousands of vehicles.
My vehicle has stop working because the engine has a crack and coolant is leaking into cylinder block. My vehicle is currently at a Ford dealership and I was directed by my warranty plan. The dealership inspected vehicle and found the issue. . . Ford warranty does not want to pay for the repair or recall. I would like to open and investigation thanks.
Car overheats and stalls or shuts down due to engine issues. No prior warning codes.
Engine failure due to overheating and leaking antifreeze but not a viable leak misfire cylinder 1 and 3 repeatedly white smoke.
Coolant intrusion issue causing excessive smoke and coolant leakage. Ford is aware of the issue and provided a service notice but no recall and an extension of coverage but. Y. Vehicle falls beyond that scope due to mileage. The repair solution is a brand new engine on a known engineering flaw costs more than. The worth of the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph on a local roadway, the vehicle went into limp mode and failed to accelerate. The engine and oil warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, and the mechanic retrieved dtc: p1299, p0300, p0303; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, and dtc: p0303 was confirmed; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 72,000.
On March 26, 2026 my engine light turned on and I’m getting in misfire on my car, and all of a sudden I can’t run more 40 mph or my car start shaking. I went to autozone to get it checked and the the result is, they are needing to replace the cylinder 3 coil pack or spark plugs. I went to Ford on March 31, 2026 trying to have my spark plug replaced and was told that my engine has coolant intrusion and that the long block needs to be replaced and the head gasket is blown they recommended me to have the engine replaced, and it will cost me more than 8 grand. That they was so unexpected for me because I’m not planning to get a new vehicle and my car is only more than six years old with 78,000 miles on it. I called Ford and asked them if I could get help with the situation and I was told that the certain VIN number of my car was not affected by the recalls that they have for the same model and the same year. If anyone is reading this don’t buy Ford at all cost.
I have a 2019 Escape with only 33k miles. The check engine light came on for p0304cyl 4 misfire and on/off again rough idle. Ford service had technician pulled plug on cylinder four and used a borescope and found coolant leaking into engine. Ford has a known TSB for coolant intrusion on this particular model and VIN and manufacturing date. Ford refuses to help me with cost to replace the long block of the engine at a cost of $14000. The blue book is 10k. This appears to be a very common issue and needs a recall immediately. This is completely wrong of Ford to do this to customer fully knowing there is a problem but won't pay to fix it.
Coolant leak via head gasket failure on cylinder number 3. Trouble light (check engine) reported on the dashboard.
Ford at jim ellis dealership in [xxx] [xxx] look at my car last Thursday and gave me only one code p0304 which means tune up but texted me that my car need $8000 of labor and $6k of a new engine, without an explanation. Prior too the VIN they pulled up showed cust satisfaction 21n12 said yes a recall when the rep saw it. However, even expired 2022 another paragraph states if exceed mileage 84000 and 7 yrs . . That this is no cost. Yet Ford still stating not related to cust sat. . . Engine fire, exhaust low coolant smoke rides rough which is what my car did last Saturday 3/14/26. To text me 15k pay or not with a conversation as to why but invoiced only one code about a tune up yet told the tow guy my coolant going into the engine but didn't advise me of that same information is highly unprofessional this is a risk and unsafe I have seen 3 other complaints 2025 2022 same issues and on kbb. The rep said that depends on manuf well it showed [xxx] same manuf as cust satisfaction. This should be listed as a new recall many more complaints on kbb. . . . . I will notify ftc as I am also a govt worker its unruly unsafe and for Ford to act unworthy with no integrity is an outrage. I called there corp and complained as well. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
We just bought this vehicle 3 weeks ago, paid sales tax and first car payment. The check engine light came on for p0304cyl 4 misfire, notice white smoke blowing from exhaust and low coolant level. Had technician pull plug four and used a boriscope and found coolant leaking into engine. Ford has a known TSB for coolant intrusion on this particular model and VIN and manufacturing date. Ford refuses to help me with cost to replace the long block of the engine at a cost of $7000, out of my pocket. I have not even put a thousand miles on this car. This is completely wrong of Ford to do this to customer fully knowing there is a problem but won't pay to fix it.
Coolant intrusion into cylinder.
I own a 2019 Ford Escape with a 1. 5l ecoboost engine. The vehicle began experiencing engine misfires and a powertrain malfunction warning. Diagnostic code p0302 appeared for cylinder 2 misfire. The coolant reservoir level began dropping without any visible external leaks. A mechanic performed a pressure test and confirmed there were no external coolant leaks, indicating coolant intrusion into the engine cylinder. This is a known defect affecting 2017 - 2019 Ford Escape 1. 5l ecoboost engines. The issue can cause engine misfires, reduced power, and potential engine failure while driving. This problem poses a safety concern because engine power can be reduced unexpectedly while driving.
I purchased the vehicle on February 10, 2026, at which time it had approximately 31,000 miles. Within one week, the check engine light illuminated. I brought the vehicle to a repair shop, where diagnostic testing identified a fault related to spark plug #2. Further inspection revealed that the engine was losing coolant. According to the technician, coolant intrusion into the cylinder caused the spark plug to seize in the cylinder head, resulting in a misfire in cylinder #2. The spark plug was removed, and a pressure test of the cooling system was performed. Using a borescope, the technician observed coolant entering the cylinder and dripping down the cylinder wall. Based on these findings, the shop determined that the engine requires a short block replacement to correct the issue.
I am experience coolant intrusion into cylinder 3 causing the check engine light to come on, when. Checked on obd2 system shows a misfire on cylinder 3, multiple checks by service centers all diagnose the coolant intrusion defect on the 2. 0 ecoboost engine requiring a long block replacement.
My 2019 Ford Escape engine has recently taken a big decline due to coolant leaking into the cylinders of the car. I was told this is a common occurrence with 2019 Escapes, so why has it not been situated? it is unsafe and over all inconvenient for the ones who are with out a car now. My car decided in the middle of traveling that it was no longer going to move no matter how hard the gas was pushed, unsafe. The engine is now loud, shaky, and over heats, while idling and driving. I have had this car for a year and a half and every time the check engine light came on and I took it to be diagnosed I was met with another issue that I paid to fix, and still no place fixed the engine. It was not until the car is no longer drivable that I finally got an answer on what has happened to my engine. This car was regularly maintained. My vehicle was inspected by a Ford specialist who said this problem caused my car to now be valued at $500. If this is a known problem with this car why are they still being sold on the market?.
Waterpump pulley/ waterpump, yes it's available for inspection. I lost power and a message came up on the screen to shut off the vehicle there was a engine failure , overheating. No, I have not had it confirmed by a dealer yet. No it has not been inspected by any person. I started hearing a noise about a month ago and I was going to make an appointment the same week it happened to break down on me. I have a disabled daughter and I'm thankful I just took her home because of the extreme cold weather. I was outside for over an hour waiting to get SUV towed.
I have a coolant intrusion in my 2019 Ford Escape. It idles roughly, there’s thick sweet smelling white smoke coming from the exhaust and when we refilled the coolant to max and started it once, the coolant level was immediately at the minimum. We have not turned it on or driven it since we found this out. There is a customer satisfaction program for 2019 Ford Escapes for powertrain control module reprogramming (campaign 19b37) that then makes the vehicle eligible for a one time repair under campaign 21n12. This campaign fixes exactly what is wrong with my vehicle. It applies to vehicles built in louisville until April 2019. My vehicle was built in louisville in may 2019. The dealership told me to call Ford customer relations/recall team to explain the situation and get a goodwill repair since my vehicle is having the exact same issues as the vehicles built at the same plant the month before. The recall team refused to provide me with a goodwill repair and also refused to give me information on when or if at all my case will be reviewed by the appropriate team. I asked to be able to contact the team handling my review by phone. They said I could only communicate with them by physical mail. This is unacceptable and I believe that Ford caused an unsafe situation for countless drivers for years by not including 2019 Ford Escapes built in louisville in may 2019 in their customer satisfaction program and are still refusing to do so.
Coolant intrusion into the engine potentially causing engine failure. A cracked cylinder head was allowing coolant to leak into one of the 4 cylinders.
He freeway I notified future Ford of concord and I was told I would receive a call back but as I recall I didn’t receive a call back. The car started acting as if nothing was wrong about a week or so later then two days ago December 13,2025 first my head lights went out and a message saying there’s a bulb outage or electrical issue appeared and also the hill assist unavailable warning light appeared , following the 911 calling assistance is unavailable as well, and I also noticed my radio is no longer producing sound so I believe the engine ( block , head gasket etc) component also electrical system, sync 3 system has also failed or malfunctioned. During the second occurrence I was driving as I was before which led to the safety of my children, my husband and myself put at risk being it was night time and I could no longer see the road the car acted as if it was turning off and slowing down. . Yes there was warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem during the failures, and they first appeared at the exact time of the failures . Also below are photos captured from the Ford vehicle app alerting me about issues for the car.
I am submitting this complaint to formally document a known engine defect affecting my 2019 Ford Escape prior to initiating direct contact with Ford motor company. My vehicle has recently been diagnosed with a cracked engine block, a defect that is well documented for this model and engine type. I understand that Ford has acknowledged this issue and established a repair or replacement program; however, I have been informed that eligibility is limited to vehicles manufactured on or before April 2019. My vehicle’s manufacture date reportedly falls just one day after this cutoff. Given the nature of this defect, specifically that it is a manufacturing flaw in the engine block material itself. The one-day exclusion appears arbitrary and unrelated to the actual failure mechanism. The failure occurred under normal use, and there was no warning or misuse that would account for the damage. This strongly suggests the issue is consistent with the known defect affecting other vehicles within the same production period. I am requesting that this complaint be officially logged to document the defect, the timing discrepancy, and the resulting financial and safety concerns. My intent is to ensure there is a formal record of this issue before I proceed with further action or correspondence with Ford motor company. Please confirm receipt of this complaint and advise if any additional documentation is required.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford Escape. The contact stated that shortly after starting the vehicle, the message "engine overheating" was displayed. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle had experienced cylinder misfires and premature low coolant levels. The local dealer was notified of the failure, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 133,000.
I went to get my spark plugs changed as maintenance on my vehicle. The plugs on both the second and third cylinder were very tight and breaking with residue all over the plugs. The shop I took my car to had to send it to another shop in order to get the plugs put back into the engine. Since then it sounds like a blown muffler whenever I start my car and I have a check engine light with a third cylinder misfire. I have also been having white smoke whenever I start my car with a cool engine. I tried seeing about getting the car fixed but mechanics don’t want to touch my car because they said it will not fix the issue because this is a manufacturer defect caused by coolant intrusion. Now I have to sell my car and. I am under because I still owe 6340. 95 on my loan. The most I can get for it is $3300 through carvana. The car has less 96,092 miles.
Ford has an issue where the coolant leaks into the cylinder blocks ruining the engine. Also, cause for low coolant which could catch the engine on fire.
Engine misfire, white smoke, loss of power while driving. Due to coolant intrusion which could lead to dangerous situations, such as an unexpected stall in traffic or an engine compartment fire. Ford had offered a campaign thro' csp 21n12 program but for a short time in 2022 which excluded many vehicles for people whose did have issues at that time.
2019 Ford Escape 1. 5l ecoboost. 74,000 miles. Check engine light came on out of nowhere. Had auto shop read the code and it was a misfire of cylinder 3 and needed ignition coil and spark plug replaced. A few days later the message "high engine temperature, stop safely" came on and the engine temperature shot up to high. Pulled over and let it cool down. Started driving it again and it shot back up to high again. Took the car to a mechanic who did a compression test and said that the coolant ran green which meant the coolant is infiltrating the cylinders. Per another mechanic this is a known problem with 2019 Ford Escapes that the engine is a open deck block that allows the cylinders to move and be unstable. Ford knows this problem but never put a recall out!.

The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to customer satisfaction program: 21n12. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 66,700.
The engine recall was warrenteed up to 80,000 miles. L bought the vehicle with 75,000 miles. Sure enough l had the defective engine and it blew out at 113,000 miles. L ended up getting a personal loan as the engine was $10,000. I'm upset because Ford can set what ever mileage they want to establish a warranty expiration period. Hope you can help.

Our bcm stopped working the first sign was both of our head lights randomly would not turn on. This was confirmed by two other mechanics and the Ford service center had to replace the entire thing. The second part the fail was part of the engine. Something happened where we were told coolant was in our cylinder number 3 and they want to replace the entire engine with no symptoms other then low coolant levels because they stated it is a risk of fire.

Car operated fine until it suddenly started running rough, then lost power/accelleration while driving down a busy state highway. Ford dealership found what the service manager called "catastropic engine failure, caused by coolant instrusion. " he showed us the whole process of coolant corruption of our Ford Escape's engine -- and the engineering flaw that caused the intrusion. Service manager explained that our 2019 Ford Escape model was "the problem child of Ford motor company. " the loss put our daughter, alone, stranded on the side of a 55 mph 2-lane highway in a car with only 57,000 miles. It put other highway drivers at risk as well. We had no warning that something was wrong with the car. The check engine light came on at the time of the incident. That is, when the car started feeling rough and wouldn't accellerate, the check engine light came on car and mechanics who repaired it are all available upon request. Also please see attached repair invoice from richardson Ford.
I am reporting a safety-related engine defect on my 2019 Ford Escape (2. 0l ecoboost). On September 23, 2025, at 72,233 miles, the engine failed due to coolant leaking into the combustion chamber (cylinder #3). Ford’s own dealer confirmed coolant intrusion and referenced Ford TSB 22-2239. This issue is associated with known ecoboost coolant-intrusion failures documented in multiple Ford bulletins and class-action suits. The engine failure required a complete long-block replacement costing $8,644. 38. Ford denied assistance despite the failure occurring within the extended 7-year/84,000-mile coverage window under customer satisfaction program 21n12. Coolant intrusion can cause sudden engine failure, stalling, loss of power, or inability to accelerate, creating a hazardous driving condition. I request NHTSA review this defect as part of the widespread ecoboost coolant-intrusion problem. Owner: [xxx] , [xxx] . VIN: [xxx] . Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
