1 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2019

As my seventeen years old daughter was pulling out of the driveway for school she noticed the steering was hard to turn. She took my car to school. I went to try and move the car back up the driveway and could barely turn the wheel myself. Luckily she was at home and not on the road. There is no assisted steering anymore, it just went out.

2 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2018

The vehicle hesitates when accelerating after coming from a stop, it is not transmission, it is like it is not getting fuel. The vehicle suddenly without warning or reason shuts off all power while driving. The red triangle with exclamation light comes on with a warning to stop safely now on the dashboard and you are stranded. This has happened both while accelerating from a stop and while driving both freeway and surface street speeds, suddenly. I am afraid not only to not only drive the vehicle but having anyone in the car with me, especially making a left turn. It is not a safe vehicle. It has left me stranded on a dark street around 9pm, cutting off on the freeway leaving me no choice but to coast off the side of the freeway. Again it just shut down again while driving straight @ 40 mph, while driving on the surface streets, this time it was early evening but once again left alone stranded until the tow truck comes. The dealer can find nothing wrong with the vehicle and indicated there are no recalls that would address this problem. But I can see through the complaints there is an obvious problem with this vehicle, which is an extreme safety issue that is not being addressed.

3 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2018

Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving varous speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact stated that the "stop for safety/high motor - cooling" warning light illuminated. In addition, the contact noted that the failure occured on more than one occasion. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the coolant pump was faulty. A dealer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 173,300. Ad.

4 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2018

The abs light comes on, and after driving it for a few minutes, the brakes completely do not work. After bringing it to a Ford dealership, the part itself is about $5,000 not including labor. (hydrocolic control unit). They didnt recommend fixing it because of how expensive it is. I still owe $5,000 so im stuck paying for a part that is worth more then the car itself.

5 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2017

I was driving in the fast lane on the highway at 70 mph when my car basically shut down and told me to "pull over safely". A red triangle (with the exclamation point in the center) appeared on the message board along with the "pull over safely" message and a chiming/alert sound. This was on labor day, so the highway was incredibly busy and it was very difficult to cross over lanes and "pull over safely". Additionally, when this message appears, it pretty much shuts down your car, not allowing you to accelerate at all which also made it more difficult to get over. I managed to pull over, turned off my car and then restarted it. That was all it took. No additional messages or problems. . . Yet. I probably had to drive an additional 30 miles or so home without any additional messages showing up. This seriously frustrated me as I have yet to be able to find much more information on the issue. It seems to be caused for a different reason for each person. I honestly do not know what genius at Ford thought it was a good idea to incorporate that feature into the vehicle. It was an extremely scary situation and put the safety of myself, those in my car, and the cars around me at a serious risk for our safety. In addition, it is very hard to feel safe driving in my car now, as I do not know when this will happen again or what will prompt it.

6 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2017

I was driving to work when all of a sudden a yellow wrench light came on, my car shut down, and I had to coast across 3 lanes of highway traffic to stop on the shoulder. It wouldn't start at first, then I tried again and it started and drove the rest of the way just fine. I have read hundreds of complaints about the same issue. Apparently the throttle body has a defect getting open or closed, codes p2111 and p2112, respectively. This is very dangerous and I can't believe a recall hasn't been issued for this by Ford. I was already victim of another recall for the mep failing that caused the same thing to happen, complete system shut down. What kind of joke for a safe vehicle is this? I'm abhorred and will never buy another Ford, and I will make sure everyone I speak to knows how much Ford doesn't take care of their customers. They should be ashamed.

7 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2016

My vehicle has 75,000 miles on it. I bought it oct. 9,2015 with 72,000 miles on it. In may 2016 the engine started cutting out and the message would read "service engine" along with a yellow wrench appearing on the dash. I had the vehicle taken to the local Ford dealer and was told I needed a harness. I paid 1004. 00 for the new harness and they also installed a fan for the hybrid system. The car did it again a few days later and I had it towed back to the dealer. The service department told me they had made a mistake and had to call Ford to get the correct codes to fix the car. I was told it was done and picked it up. The same thing happened less than 4 days later. I had the car towed again and let the dealership send my car home with a mechanic for 2 days. I was told nothing is wrong and picked it up. I now have the abs light coming on, the red triangle safety light coming on, the red brake light coming on, the low tires light coming on (it stays on) and the yellow wrench light coming on. At night when I turn on my right blinker the high beams come on. The dealership says there is nothing wrong and no codes come up on their machine. When I brake I have to push very hard and sometimes the brakes lock up on me. I have avoided accidents so far but I am concerned at this point. I do not want to be injured or killed and I certainly do not want to injure or kill anyone in an accident that could be avoided, if Ford had a mechanic that knows what is happening with the car. When I am driving the car will suddenly shut off in traffic and I have to stop, put the car in park and restart it. This is good for about 10 minutes before it acts up again.

8 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2016

Our vehicle seemingly randomly shuts off all power to the engine and the electric motor. This can happen while we are moving or stopped in an intersection. We get a message of stop safely now on the dashboard. When you are in the middle of an intersection waiting to turn left in six lanes of traffic and your car stops for no apparent reason this isn't very safe. This has happened about 30 times. Sometimes it goes a year without a mishap or three times in one day.

9 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2015

I had gone va beach to washington d. C. And was on the way back when the vehicle had completely shutdown just before the hampton roads bridge tunnel in newport news. We were on the interstate during the entire trip and was lucky to be in the right lane. A aaa be tow truck pulled us off to the side. We tried to restart it but it shut off. Everything else was working fine. I went back the next day and the vehicle worked fine. I had it checked out by the dealer and they said there was nothing wrong with it. I just had the cooling pump replaced because of the recall. I looked at the manual and it stated that when the high voltage battery gets too hot that it will shut off. This could cause a serious accident. I believe that Ford should find a way to allow the vehicle to still operate on gas power when high voltage battery needs to cool down and to find a way to allow better ventilation so the battery does not get so hot since it is located in the trunk where people put their belongings.

10 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2015

Was driving to work in the morning. Had been in the car approximately 10 minutes when the abs, brake, and service brakes, indicators came on all at once. Depressed brake pedal only to discover that I did in fact not have any brakes. Turned on emergency flashers and began to merge over into right hand shoulder, repeatedly stomping on brake pedal. Was able to come to a stop. This incident happened while I was approaching a very busy 3-way intersection, off of a major highway. Turned car off and back on to see if this was a malfunction, but all three indicators came on again. Had vehicle towed to Ford dealership. Paid $5280. 03 in parts and labor to have faulty hydraulic unit repaired, and hcu and hybrid system bleed. Had not had any problems with this vehicle in the past. Very thankful that this incident did not cause an accident or injuries to myself or others.

11 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2015

I was driving on the 495 beltway (approx 55mph) in the right lane when suddenly my car lost power and the fail safe message appeared saying stop the car immediately. Fortunately, I was able to take a nearby exit off the beltway without injuring myself or someone behind me and causing a multiple car collision. A red triangle icon appeared on the dashboard including other lights and messages since the car had no power. I did have the car heater on due to winter temperatures. I immediately turned the car off and rested it and did not put my heat back on suspecting the electronic motor coolant pump as the problem after recently reading a nyt article. The car started about 10 minutes later. I made an appt w my Ford dealer to inspect the car for this problem. I had a similar problem last summer and was told by Ford that my VIN didn't have any recalls. I had the a/c on that day. Unfortunately, the recall for throttles only applies to Ford non-hybrid cars. There has only been a service bulletin to Ford mechanics and no recall for the electronics motor coolant pump. This incident scared me and I feel my car is unsafe to drive esp on interstate highways at high rates of speed until this problem is resolved.

12 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2015

Our Ford escape engine stopped suddenly on the highway. We brought it to cypress coast Ford Lincoln in seaside California. I had not received a recall notice from Ford about the recall, but upon researching the symptoms online, I found out about the recall and informed the service advisor at cypress Ford. They advised me that the recall was not relevant and that the car needed $1700 in very similar repairs. I paid with a credit card and the work was completed. I picked up the car and tried to drive it home; the same exact problem happened again, late at night, on the highway. I had the car towed (at my expense) to my home and then was able to get it to my local Ford dealer. They ran the VIN and said the recall was present and should be fixed. What recourse do I have to get a full refund and payment for negligence from the Ford authorized dealer/service center that 1) did not properly repair my car 2) ignored the recall on the specific part of the car that I was complaining about and the recall I alerted them to 3) placed me in danger through their negligence by send me back to the highway without fixing the problem please advise.

13 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2014

On cold morning, car started drove down the road about 5 miles and the car just died, saying "brake safely now. " seems to happen only on cold days when heater is on. It will not start again for 30 minutes. It will start, but will continuously die. We had called Ford in middlesboro, ky and spoken with frank who said our vehicle did not have any recalls. I then found out it had a recall. I took it in over the weekend and he then claimed on Monday that the recall item had been fixed. However, when I checked the website, it confirmed the problem had not been fixed. This has been going on for about a month now. We have had the oil changed, battery replaced and it checked by Ford of morristown, TN. They claim they can¿t find out what¿s wrong with it. We have read other people's similar complaints who said it was either the "electric motor water pump" or coolant pump.

14 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid. While driving approximately 35 mph, the high motor temperature and stop vehicle safely warning lights displayed as the vehicle suddenly lost power and stalled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the motor electronics coolant pump was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 114,000.

15 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2014

We were driving east on I-26 in south carolina at 65 mph in 3 lanes of traffic when the triangle hazard warning light on the dash sounded and lit up saying "pull over safely now". At the same time , with the gas peddle floored, the speed of the car was slowing by the second! the gas peddle did not work. We were able to pull over and turn the car off without getting hit by oncoming traffic. Per the manual, we waited awhile and restarted the car, and were able to get it home. I called the Ford customer care line to ask if it was safe to drive the car and would this happen again. They were not helpful at all. They basically told me to take it to a dealership. Our local dealership said they knew nothing about the issue I described, but diagnosed the problem as being an mecs pump failure for $135. The replacement cost would be $800. Due to the high cost quote and knowing that it only takes 45 minutes or less to change this pump, we took it elsewhere. The part is $277. Our concern is that how could Ford dealers not know about this dangerous defect, when in 3 seconds you can pull up hundreds of websites covering this failure, and the dangerous and potentially fatal accident it could cause. Now I have found this us dot website which has hundreds of complaints on this issue also,I am hoping more people will come forward to get these cars off the road.

16 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/11/2014

We purchased this Ford Escape Hybrid in August, 2012, after procuring a pre-sale evaluation at Ford dealer 1, including a full VIN search for any incomplete recalls. The evaluation found nothing incomplete. Returning home 6. 11. 14, on our residential street, the escape without prior warning flashed ¿stop vehicle safely and simultaneously turned off all power. Research indicated a failed oem mecs coolant pump (TSB 08-24-5), and we had issues getting the correct part from Ford dealer 1 and sourced a dorman part from the local x auto parts store, supplying it to an ase-certified shop for installation (vehicle inoperable/on a lift). Another ¿stop vehicle safely event occurred 6. 24. 14 with my family in the vehicle on an expressway entrance ramp, with the escape taken to Ford dealer 2 for evaluation. Ford dealer 2¿s VIN check found csp 07b48 and TSB 09-18-6, not available previously. Ford dealer 2 made repairs consistent with the csp/TSB on 7. 12. 14 at our expense. These serious safety implications well-known to Ford (both csp 07b48/TSB 09-18-6 and TSB 08-24-5) were not identified by Ford dealer 1 in our pre-purchase inspection, or by Ford in a prior investigation and repair of the corrosion issues in this escape. We are concerned that known/identified safety issues generating an errant bcm signal disabling the car made this particular escape a ticking time bomb. We could not have been aware of the issues despite our diligence, but Ford had direct access to that information. We were fortunate when/where our failures occurred. For anyone else in a similar escape with the csp 07b48/TSB 09-18-6 and TSB 08-24-5 repairs not already accomplished, the nhsta should compel a long-overdue recall for the affected vehicles.

17 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2014

While going about 73mph in passing lane-heard "beep" dashboard had red triangle lite up and a message to stop safely now--then car just stopped!! I was in the far left lane--pullled off into median--read manual--started car up and went--on return trip same thing--altho now I was always looking for my "exit"--altho was panicking going thru tunnel in boston. Ford had recall on this sysytem that ended in 2009--I bought this in 2012. Brought to Ford dealer--they said there was no recall and for a starting fee of $120/hr they could take a look. I called Ford in mi-told too late--too bad. . So now I have printed out recall and will bring to a different dealer on Monday. Saw that this is an ongoing safety issue that Ford will not take ownership of.

18 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2014

Error code is "stop safely now". I was driving, and all in the sudden - an error message came up on dash display "stop safely now". Immediately, the car was totally shut down right after, lost the ability to stop, and I have no controls of any thing. I was lucky that I'm in a middle of a parking lot. I almost got hit with the car drove right behind me. What if this incident occurs on a freeway at a high speed. My car is fully well maintenance with such low miles for 2006.

19 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2014

Time of day: 1800, temperature about 80f. "stop safely now" message appeared on console. Vehicle slowed down while travelling at 65mph on an interstate highway during a heavy rush hour traffic. Fortunately, I was travelling on the left lane and safely moved to the left curb and within seconds the engine died. I kept trying to start but no success. While on the phone with the insurance company for a tow truck, I tried again, and the engine restarted. I was able to continue driving home for about 25 minutes, approximately 15 miles. While approaching a traffic light, the "stop safely now" message appeared and this time the car died in the middle of the street. This time, it died within 3 seconds after the message appeared. It was a major safety hazard when other cars were approaching and with very little room to stop and react. This was in a 35 mph residential zone. I had to call a local police department to assist managing the traffic. After about 15 minutes, I was able to start the car again and continued the last 2 blocks to my resident. This is a serious safety issue that could have resulted in multi cars accident had I not had the opportunity to drive to the curb before it stopped.

20 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2014

Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid. The contact stated while driving approximate 60 mph, the vehicle stalled and the message stop safely now illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle restarted and resumed normal function. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician diagnosed that the motor electronic coolant pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The contact was made aware of recall NHTSA campaign id number: 14v526000 (electrical system). However, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate mileage was 120,000. Pam.

21 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/16/2013

Electric assisted power steering not functional. Dealer troubleshooting consisted of reading codes, then indicating that the entire rack and pinion assembly needed replaced ($2200). Replaced the assembly, still doesn't work. The electronic steering control module was replaced, still doesn't work. The repair shops and the dealers have inadequate information and training to repair these electric steering systems. There should be adequate information and training to identify the failed component, as opposed to swapping out large assemblies, and still not fixing the problem. These systems appear to have a high failure rate, and present a huge safety issue when they fail while driving! please issue a recall ASAP!.

22 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2013

While driving on I-195 east going towards bwi the engine just cut off for no reason or warning then a red traingle appeared stop safely I was able to pull over safely was almost rear ended by a tractor trailer the car would not turn back on for about 5 min after it started I had no power what so ever when about 2 miles at 30 miles per hour and it did it again managed to get it home based on what I have been reading why has Ford not recalled this issues or are they waiting for some one to get killed there needs to be a recall before someone gets hurt. I am looking into getting a lawyer if Ford does not want to fix it.

23 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2013

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid. The contact stated while driving various speeds the service soon light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the jumper harness needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 36,000.

24 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2013

1) we have been receiving a yellow wrench light indicating maintenance needed off and on for a couple of weeks even though we were well within the maintenance period. This turns out to be an issue with the blend door for allowing air cooling of the hybrid batteries. 2) the power steering went out completely for the car. We have had no prior problems with the steering, and the system check showed no problem (I believe it checks fluid levels) so the problem appeared to be electrical.

25 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2012

Driving on the interstate and the car shuts down displaying a stop safely now error. . . . Apparently a faulty pump. The same pump that we've already replaced 3 times. . . . . Not only is this annoying but it's a huge safety problem. The vehicle loses all power!.

26 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2012

At 65 mph on hwy 5 in los angeles the vehicle died and the " stop safely now" message came on. Fortunately, I was able to safely get from the 3rd lane to the shoulder. After putting the car in park and turning off the key I was able to restart and continue. About 15 miles later it did the same thing again with the same message. Again able to safely pull off the freeway and after putting it in park turned the key off and back on and was again on my way. Both times the cruise control was on so after that I did not use the cruise and have not had another occurrence.

27 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2011

August 2011 - had driven approximately 200 miles TN into va when stop safely now message appears. Pulled over, waited a few minutes and started the engine. No help available locally as it was small town late Saturday. Decided to continue trip home - drove slowly in right lane for last 200 miles. No recurrance the rest of the way. My mechanic could find nothing wrong upon return home. Did not occur again until June 9, 2012 - about 150 miles from home. Same scenario - stopped for a minute then went on. Happened again on June 20, 2012. After stop and go traffic then running at 70 mph when message appears, this time the engine shut down immediatly and I barely got onto the shoulder with traffic speeding by about 2 feet off my right. Tried to start again but message that the engine was dangerously heated appeared. After sitting for about 10 minutes, it started, I turned on the heat (despite 90+ outside temp) and got off at next exit and parked for about an hour. Started up and drove home. No other occurance since. My mechanic tells me now that I need a coolant pump based on the stored service code. Will cost over $700 part and labor. Just hope it fixes it. It is extremely dangerous when the engine shuts down with only seconds of warning. In the area I live, I wouldn't always be able to even get onto a shoulder safely.

28 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2011

While traveling home on an interstate at 70 mph the red brake light came on after a light breaking situation. I did the system check available on the vehicle and the brake fluid was shown as ok. The brake pads were replaced not long ago so I was confused. A short time later the yellow abs light came on. When I went to brake my foot went to the floorboard and the vehicle was not stopping. I swerved onto the shoulder of the interstate to avoid an accident. It took a great distance ( I would say more than 100 yards ) for the vehicle to stop. I was never so scared in my life. I drove home on side streets at 25 mph with my warning lights flashing and virtually no brakes. After taking the vehicle to a Ford dealership I researched the break failure issue and to my amazement found numerous other such incidents. After five days in the repair shop and three failed attempts by the technician to bleed the break lines I was told that I needed a $4200 computer control unit. I believe this is a serious design flaw in the electrically controlled break system of the hybrid vehicle and no person should have to go through the terror of attempting to stop from 70 mph with the breaking system shut down. This is a timebomb waiting to go off in the form of a fatal accident.

29 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2010

2006 Ford Escape Hybrid - intermittent power brake boost failure. When beginning to press on brakes for an instant they feel normal and power assisted, then the pedal falls and all power assist is gone. The vehicle stops with great pressure in the last few inches of pedal travel. 3 occurrences: as of October 4, 2010 1. May 2010 at the end of a freeway off ramp at approximately 160,000 miles on the vehicle 2. 24 September , 2010 ( approximately 180,000 miles on the vehicle) same brake problem occurred after a stop of over 30 minutes, and when the vehicle was backed up, first brake pressing resulted in an instant of pedal , then pedal snapping to the floor and car stopping after application of manual pressure. Dash indicator lights came on a few seconds later. 3. One week to the day later, 1 October, 2010 at approximately 188,500 miles. First brake application after a start of the vehicle and backing up. Pressing brakes resulted in the failure described. Approximately 30 or 40 seconds after the loss of brake boost the dashboard lit up with "brakes" red light and otherslike the 'service soon' wrench. I am the purchaser of the car new in the los angeles, California area, and the primary ( over 90% of the time) driver, covering over 110 miles 4 days a week.

30 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2010

Driving my Ford Escape Hybrid on I 5 wa state. Warning lite came on that said stop safely now and my engine had stopped. I was in the left lane on the highway and had to unsafely maneuver 4 lanes to the right without the engine on. . I read my manual and it said to try and start, which it did. 3 miles later it did it again. This went on for 4 or 5 more times. I got off the highway and limped to a Ford dealer. They repaired it, it as a hybrid component cooling pump. It cost me $726. 00. They wouldn't cover it. I view this as a severe safety problem.

31 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2010

Stop safely now warning light suddenly came on and engine died while traveling 20 mph on a 2-lane road.
