Nine problems related to power train have been reported for the 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid based on all problems reported for the 2007 Escape Hybrid.
I had been driving down the road and my power steering went out with out warning. I puller over using force into a strip mall. Turned the car off, sat there for 10 min turned the car back on and the dash light came on and a service power steering read across the dash. Called Ford to make an appointment.
While traveling on a turnpike with few exit ramps and limited shoulder clearance, the vehicle simultaneously lost all power and displayed the warning triangle ("triangle of death") and the information display indicated "stop safely now". The key was removed from the ignition and manual consulted. The manual indicated this was a hybrid system fault/failure and advised on attempting to restart the vehicle and taking it to the nearest dealership. The restart was successful and traveling continued for another 15 miles before the same exact scenario repeated. The Ford dealership diagnosed this problem as a failure of the motor electronic cooling system (mecs)--a well documented failure (and a dangerous one) that plagues many Ford Escape Hybrids.
While backing out of a parking space, the right front wheel separated from the vehicle. Upon closer inspection, it appeared that the bolt sheared, dislocating the wheel from the drivetrain. This was later confirmed at the repair center--the bolt had sheared and had to be drilled out. The front lower control arm bolts (forward bolt) removed and threads had to be repaired. The right front axle also had to be replaced. This vehicle is only 6. 5 years old, and is not driven off road. Ford does not acknowledge this as an issue. As noted elsewhere on this site, we also have had issues with brake squealing, as well as the water pump issue.
After driving approx 20 min on the freeway, my 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid shut off. Warning light came on displaying: motor temp high. Then, stop safely. Considering I was in the middle of the freeway in phoenix az, the 2nd warning statement was quite un-nerving. When I finally made it to the shoulder of the freeway, I opened the hood, nothing was overheating, no steam, coolant levels normal. The vehicle started again without issue. I proceeded approx 5 minutes down the freeway and exited. When attempting to cross the street at the end of the exit ramp, the vehicle shut down again, displaying the same messages. This incident left me in the middle of a busy road. When I finally arrived home, I contacted a friend who is more knowledgeable than I regarding mechanical issues. He said he had heard of this and suggested I look on the internet. I am appalled at the # of occurrences of the same issue that have been reported. Yet no one, not the manufacturer or the dealerships have notified the consumer of this very dangerous situation. My father has purchased Fords for years. This irresponsible action, of failure to notify the consumer of potentially dangerous malfunctions, does not fit the responsible company that he has always described.
I was driving at freeway speed and the car suddenly gave the signal "stop car safely now. " I immediately began to lose power and barely had time to pull over to the left-hand shoulder to get out of the way of traffic. No previous signal (e. G. Wrench light or warning triangle) had appeared to give me advance warning. This had happened before (see 2/1/13 complaint), but when we took the car to the shop after that first occurrence, they were unable to identify any problems, so I had driven it again. Both times the problem occurred after sustained (2 hrs) freeway speed (70 mph) driving. This time I was towed to a Ford dealership where they identified that the hybrid battery system had overheated and numerous parts needed replacement.
I was driving at freeway speed and the car suddenly showed the signal: "stop safely now," and I immediately began to lose power. I barely had time to pull to the shoulder to get out of the way of 70-mph traffic. No previous signal showed on the dash (e. G. , the wrench signal) to give me any advance warning.
No prior issue -just started to rev up while driving then conked out-in the middle of the road have had it diagnosed and the transmission is shot- no issue with the transmission fluid-no smell nothing I basically only drive the care up and down the street I live -not a beltway driver-never drive in snow since I am second owner - bought when 1 year old- have had 5 years Ford refuses to offer warranty as it is 6 years also have had repeated issues with a sticking gas pedal- non accelerating -just sticking and having to force it to release by constant pressing on it.
Multiple problems have been happening for about 10 months now on this vehicle which relates to its safety. I bought this vehicle in fall 2011 from saint clair Ford dealership in michigan. In Jan of 2012, I was driving home from work via telegraph north around 50mph and near maple road the vehicle suddenly said -there is a theft, bring vehicle to stop safely in the middle of 50mph traffic(this road is very busy)! it was so scary. I was able to bring the vehicle to the shoulder finally. I restarted the vehicle and after about 2 more tries it started driving again and then few days later it happened again. I brought the car in to the dealer at village Ford and they replaced some coolant pump ($600) and said it should be ok now. After couple days, this started again. After few weeks I took the car to another Ford dealers(suburban Ford waterford) and they replaced another cooling parts ($700) but the problem came back after a month again. Recently for the last few weeks, I am getting these serious problems sometimes together and sometimes by themselves at least 2-3 times a day -"theft" and brings vehicle to stop while driving, lf tire and brings vehicle to stop while driving, service soon, service 4x4, wrench light, abs light, brake light, etc. But the error codes go away when I restart and then something new comes after driving 5 to 6 miles. When I had time to bring the vehicle to the dealer, they said there are no error codes to read. All the error codes get deleted after I turn the vehicle off. This time I got service soon light and service 4x4 light and brakes failed earlier for a while and I showed it to the dealer without turning the vehicle off. We will see if there are any resolutions. This is a very unsafe vehicle.
Without warning, the engine and motor stopped upon accelerating after right turn, with warning message and many lights displayed. After rolling to a stop at the side of the road, and waiting 5 to 10 minutes, the car started and drove normally. This has occurred a number of times since then, on surface streets and expressways. The loss of power is accompanied by loss of power steering, of course, and creates a dangerous situation.
