Over the past 3 years I have had the issue of 'stop safely now' on multiple occasions. These issues didn't start until the mec pump was replaced under a recall. After that my 2005 Escape Hybrid will shut down while driving or not start or cut out the hybrid power and run on engine only. I took it to the local Ford dealership where we have gotten all other service done three times for these issues. They haven't been able to tell me anything, stating only that there are no codes, so no idea where to look. I couldn't understand how the computer can know to tell me to stop driving the car, yet not record a dtc. It happened again on the first warm day of the summer - drove across town, parked it, came back 20 minutes later and it wouldn't start, showing 'stop safely now'. I left it until the next morning and it started right up and I drove it home. I went out and bought scanxl and used my laptop to scan the car. I found p1a10, p1a14, p0a0a, and p0a95. If I can buy some consumer program and find this info, way is Ford telling there are no codes? Ford also replaced the battery fans two years ago, stating they were covered under some recall or warranty. Searching the internet gets me 100's of comments on this stop safely issue with dozens of possible causes depending on the year and model. My scan tool shows a battery voltage of 665 volts, though it's supposed to be a 300 volt battery. The hybrid evaporator temp can range between 220 and 310 degrees f when it's running ok. That can't be normal. I have no idea what's going on and can't get any help from the Ford dealer.

The hybrid electronics system overheated, the dashboard lights went on and the alert system said to "stop car slowly" and then "check emissions system". The car slowed down and lost almost all power. After turning it on again, the car had no power and could not accelerate. It was like this for several minutes (this has happened before but the car seemed normal after the initial stall). The car was towed to a nearby mechanic's garage and they told us the problem was with the mecs pump which was causing the hybrid system to overheat. This seems remarkably similar to recall #14s19 and I don't understand how my car is not covered under it. I also chatted with a rep from Ford who couldn't tell me why my car wasn't covered. While I understand that recalls are VIN specific I believe there is an error on Ford's end. The rep told me my vehicle was built on July 29, 2005 and the recall includes vehicles manufactured from 2005 to June 20, 2008. She said she couldn't find an exact date for the start of the "build date" range, but she thought it included all of 2005. So I said "shouldn't mine be covered?" similarly, the 14s19 recall notice states: "model year 2005-2008 Ford Escape Hybrid electric vehicles manufactured October 13, 2003, to June 20, 2008". I bought the car in late 2015, after the initial recall date was issued and the dealer stated that there were no outstanding recall matters with the vehicle. However, the car only had 60,000 miles on it and was lightly used so I wonder if the previous owner was even aware of the mecs issues. Thank you for your time. I am currently facing $1,300 in repair costs and this looks exactly like the recall problems mentioned in 14s19. I hope someone at NHTSA can help because I think Ford should reimburse me for the damages. Thanks again. Please contact me at 516 661 3872 if you have any questions.

2006 Ford Escape Hybrid with approx. 140,000 miles. Initially, had problems with vehicle's gas engine stalling out while in motion and at various speeds from 35 to 55 mph. Message in dash said to pull over safely. This happened 5 times in one day and each time the vehicle would restart and run for only a few minutes. Next day it ran for about 15 minutes before occurring once again. Eventually the hybrid battery had no more juice and I have to be towed. Garage, not dealer dx sticking throttle linkage assembly. They cleaned it, recharged the hybrid battery and reprogrammed the computer. Vehicle worked well for 6 weeks and then problem returned. Only difference was that after initially stalling out when the engine was warm, on 2 occasions occurred when engine was cold. Returned it to garage where it stalled when cold one of those times. After that is didn't stall for them again. Garage looked on line and saw a number of possible causes for the problem, but no conclusive diagnosis or fix. They suggested that changing the throttle linkage assembly might fix the problem, but they were not confident of this. Vehicle not repaired.
Vehicle displayed "service emissions system" warning immediately after driving off the lot. After replacement of all emissions parts, vehicle still intermittently displays this warning and occasional "stop safely now" messages causing the engine to shut down. Vehicle also displays "service brake system" warnings daily despite having entire breaking system replaced causing failure of abs breaking system resulting in brake pedal going all the way to the floor and taking a much longer distance to stop while driving. Vehicle surges forward while stopped at traffic lights increasing the risk of a crash. Vehicle displays "passenger door ajar" warnings although door is shut. This results in alarm and lights flashing constantly resulting in several drained batteries so vehicle does not start. Transfer case or "power take off unit" failed at 125k miles resulting in non-drivable condition.

Car shuts off with little or no warning, 3 times now, once on interstate 64. Dealer first said hybrid battery bad, 2nd opinion from hybrid battery company said battery good. Dealer said, 2nd time with car, need a $600 repair that will resolve. Now, dealer says no, the battery is still the issue. They still cannot state why the car does it, what will make this car safe to drive and if they truly know it is the battery, why did they do the $600 repair and tell us that would fix the problem. I have asked wynne Ford in hampton va, the dealer, for a poc at Ford motor company to be able to get answers on how to make/know our12 yr old car is safe to drive, been over a month, but have recieved no information from wynne Ford. I guess I need to drive to michigan to see mr. William clay Ford jr for answers. I do not know the exact mileage on the vehicle, vehicle is at the dealership. Also, the issue has happened 3 times but the latest was around oct 2018. Each incident, we had to get vehicle towed.
Takata recall purchase a vehicle used dealer in las vegas. They didn't disclose the condition of the car including the turbo leaking oil, coolant reservoir leaking, and heater hose. The car stop while driving.

The vehicle hesitates when accelerating after coming from a stop, it is not transmission, it is like it is not getting fuel. The vehicle suddenly without warning or reason shuts off all power while driving. The red triangle with exclamation light comes on with a warning to stop safely now on the dashboard and you are stranded. This has happened both while accelerating from a stop and while driving both freeway and surface street speeds, suddenly. I am afraid not only to not only drive the vehicle but having anyone in the car with me, especially making a left turn. It is not a safe vehicle. It has left me stranded on a dark street around 9pm, cutting off on the freeway leaving me no choice but to coast off the side of the freeway. Again it just shut down again while driving straight @ 40 mph, while driving on the surface streets, this time it was early evening but once again left alone stranded until the tow truck comes. The dealer can find nothing wrong with the vehicle and indicated there are no recalls that would address this problem. But I can see through the complaints there is an obvious problem with this vehicle, which is an extreme safety issue that is not being addressed.
Turned the car on and the wrench light was on. Driving it felt a little bit strange because it didn't feel like it had good power. Turned the car off and back on and it was running fine again. Drove about 5 miles and once I got to a parking garage, the check engine light came on and the car went into "limp" mode. Pulled into a parking space and had it towed to the dealer. They said that the throttle body was sticking. This is the third failure of this part in 33 months. Part was first replaced in September 2015. Had a failure of the part they replaced in January 2017 and now a third failure of the same part in Jun 2018. The throttle body has been replaced each time that it has failed. This seems like a defective part that only lasts for about 15-18 months. There was less than 20,000 miles put on the car before this part failed in June 2018.
The car has twice lost power while I was driving it. The red warning light comes on the car loses power but the power steering and brakes remain functional. The car was on recall for this exact thing and I took the car in. The dealer tells me I have the brushless coolant pump so it's not due to the defective motor electronics coolant pump and he's not replacing it. But it's still doing it and nothing else is wrong with the car. This is dangerous because the second time it happened I was on the interstate going 70 miles an hour.
The fuel delivery module may develop a crack in the fuel supply port, which could result in a leak safety recall notice 16s41 / NHTSA recall 16v - 777.

The car comes to a stall on the interstate I-75 lost traction shutdow the combustion engine and a warning comes up (stop safely now) . The same happen 8 times in a month localy in weston. All the times I turned off the key and restard. It seems the same problem as per recal 14v-526 or 14v526000, local dealer does not recognize any problem or recal (sawgrass Ford).

While idling the warning message "stop vehicle safley" appeared and the car went into "limp" mode. After cutting engine off to reset, the vehicle was started again. After a short time of idling again, the vehicle gave the same warning message. Vehicle was driven a short distance to a safe parking area in "limp" mode. The vehicle then had to be towed and electronic throttle body replaced.
Vehicle idled roughly. At a light, vehicle idled roughly, dashboard wrench icon light up, and engine stalled. This happened twice. Was able to start again and drive to dealer. Dealer determined it was throttle body and replaced it.

While driving my 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid on a residential street, the red triangle light came on, with a warning to "stop now, pull over. " luckily I was already driving slowly and I stopped safely. The engine then died. I tried restarting, but the red triangle came back on, and the engine died again. I had the vehicle towed to local Ford dealership. They diagnosed the problem as a dead hybrid battery, with a replacement cost $12,000. Unfortunately, the 8-yr battery warranty expired just a few months prior to this. I asked about recall 14s19, which seems to be related to this problem. The dealer and Ford corp customer service both said my specific VIN was not covered by the recall. About 18 months prior to this, I had the same experience, with the red triangle warning light coming on while I was driving on a residential street. I had the vehicle towed to the same dealer. Their initial diagnosis was a dead hybrid battery, which would be covered under warranty. The next day, the dealer called back to say they had discussed the problem with Ford corporation, and they changed the diagnosis. They replaced the "ignition switch and housing" (not covered under warranty) for $743. The car ran ok until the problem recurred this month.
2005 Ford Escape Hybrid defect in throttle body electronic throttle body malfunction NHTSA action number: dp12006 opened 10/2/2012 dear NHTSA, around 4 months ago, we purchased a used 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid in north carolina. We have had numerous issues with this and our other 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid including having to replace cv axle¿s in both vehicles, engine alerts in a limp home operation or completely dying or stalling while driving and: rear right door alarm has been coming on consistently in hot weather service emissions warning came on and these codes came c1524 ¿ brake pedal travel sensor calibration not complete c1218 ¿ lamb antilock brake system warning output circuit malfunction (this code came up in 4/2016 as well someone says it could be a bulb burned out p0126 ¿ coolant thermostat temperature below thermostat regulating (twice) p0685 ¿ engine control module powertrain cont. Power relay circuit /open while driving, both cars have failed and many times Ford service would spend over 3 weeks trying to figure out what was wrong with our vehicles. After around 3 weeks, fairway Ford of kingsport, TN¿s mechanic, bob, notified me that it was the throttle body and a p1a0c code, which costs almost $1,000 to replace. Despite this recall, when I asked Ford service at two different locations if there were any recalls they said no because they didn¿t want to fix the problem. In fact, at one dealership, I received the car back with a damaged window and they refused to repair it as well. I¿m asking for an investigation into this defect, a recall to be issued and for Ford to pay for the repair since this has been an issue in these vehicles.
Our vehicle seemingly randomly shuts off all power to the engine and the electric motor. This can happen while we are moving or stopped in an intersection. We get a message of stop safely now on the dashboard. When you are in the middle of an intersection waiting to turn left in six lanes of traffic and your car stops for no apparent reason this isn't very safe. This has happened about 30 times. Sometimes it goes a year without a mishap or three times in one day.
The triangle/! symbol comes up and engine loses all power on the freeway. My car has been into the dealership twice for this dangerous issue. The 2008 Escape Hybrids are supposedly not covered for throttle body issues and my coolant fan for the battery is supposedly "updated" and doesnt need to be replaced. . Over 700 dollar fix for safety and flaw in quality of pats?.
Today my wrench indicator came on and then roughly 8-10 minutes later my vehicle suddenly lost speed while travelling at roughly 55-60 mph in the fast lane, it dropped down to ~40 mhp no matter how much I pressed the gas. I had to cautiously get over into the slow lane and luckily my exit was close. After the exit there was a red light where I stopped and restarted, then it seemed fine. This is not an isolated incident with the accelerator malfunctioning, in the past year or more I have had 5-6 instances where I start my car first thing in the morning and while in park or reverse the engine revs really high like it's stuck, at 2k-2. 5k rpms. It either stops doing that on its own or I restart the car and it stops and seems fine. In the past year I have had 4-5 instances where I was driving at low speed soon after starting my car in the morning and it would not accelerate properly for several seconds, then finally it would. I had one instance perhaps 3 months ago where I was driving on city streets at 25-30 mph when it went into "limp" mode and would only travel at perhaps 15 mph no matter how much I accelerated, I pulled over and restarted the car and it seemed fine after that. This seems to be an obvious product defect similar or the same as the customer satisfaction program 13n03 that I have been reading about. I called Ford and they told me that my car was not part of the csp, as hybrid models were not included, which makes absolutely no sense since I am having precisely the same problems that were the subject of the csp and presumably the exact same throttle body parts were used on my car as non-hybrid models.
I was driving down the road and the vehicle got sluggish. Would only go 35 mph and would not accelerate. I had to pull over and turn car off and turn on and the same thing kept happening. I was scared to drive the car because the speed limit is well over 35 and my car would not go faster. When I took to the Ford dealership to get fixed, it was the electronic throttle body. It was fixed but when researching this online, I noticed there were many cars with the same issue.
I own a 2012 Ford escape and have had it in the shop over ten times. I have brought it in for transmission issues and check engine lights coming on. Multiple times they have gave me an oil change and cleaned the solenoids. My transmission still sputters and once again my check engine light has come back on. One time I lost complete power and was almost killed in an intersection. If anyone wants to take my car for testing they can. I don't know what to do anymore and am scared that someone is going to get killed. Ford needs to be held responsible for fixing this issue. I have heard from multiple sites that this is a huge issue. The engine has been described to me like a helicopter and when it shifts like I am a nascar driver.
Vehicle stalled during acceleratation. Then went idle and went into safety mode in traffic. Problem is the throttle body consumer satisfaction alert # 13no3 codes p2135,p2110,p2111.
Ford mec pump recall, did not help after replacing part. My escape died on me while going 70 mph on a busy highway, with my 18-month old son in the back seat. The "stop safely now" message appeared and I was barely able to get over 3 lanes onto the shoulder before it stopped completely, with cars speeding right past me. This was very dangerous. It happened 2 more times on the way home. This was during the last half of just a 20 mile trip.
The brake system is very irritating because my abs and brake light are on at weird times and to fix they said it would cost me $4500. That's ridiculous I can't afford something like that. It also just started spitting gas out at me when I go to fill it up. Did it to me twice the other day and I have no idea what the reasoning was for that never had happen before. Then when I go to drove off sometimes the vehicle likes to make a pop noise once or twice not sure what that's all about. These cars are have more problems then they are worth.

Picked up my car from dealership, (recalled) electronic coolant pump replaced. Having dealt with the "stall-like condition" described in the safety recall notice 14s19 / NHTSA recall 14v-526, I was expecting the newly installed water pump to affect my car's recent performance. Fifteen minutes from the dealership, going 65 mph on the freeway, the pull over safely now message flashed. And then my car stalled. Makes me wonder if the safety recall listed the wrong replacement part.
The vehicles warning light symbolized as an orange/yellow wrench illuminates on and off throughout the day. On multiple occasions the vehicle has lagged in response to applying pressure to the gas petal to accelerate, or had delayed acceleration response. The issue is ongoing, and continual on a daily basis starting approximately on March 2, 2015.
The contact owns 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at 65 mph, the vehicle jerked and stalled. In addition, the contact stated that pull over was displayed across the message board. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician was unable to diagnose or repair the vehicle. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v526000 (hybrid propulsion system) however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown but the current mileage was 71,000.

Engine died multiple times in a parking lot. Car had been idling and had recently been driven over thirty miles on the highway and the ambient temperature was over 90 deg f. Had the car towed home because the dealer service dept was closed. The next day the dealer was unable to reproduce the problem and no dtc found in ecm. Paid the dealer for diagnostic time and picked up up the car. One week later, the car died again while driving at about 10-20 mph. Dashboard display said to pull over and park safely. After waiting for 30 minutes for the engine to cool, we were able to drive the three miles home. The next day at the dealer, no dtc found in the ecm, but the dealer said that the symptoms pointed to a throttle body problem. They were unable to recalibrate the throttle body, so they asked us to approve paying for a throttle body cleaning, which we did. This seems to indicate that the hybrid system directs the engine to shut off whenever it detects a sensor problem that it can not resolve. Most cars would produce a cel illuminated on the dash and set a limp home mode. The Escape Hybrid seems to just shut off and let you hope for the best. This may seem like an irrational response to a modest problem, but these were the same things that happened before when the problem was diagnosed as a pump problem for the electronics, which is now a safety recall for 2005-2008 Escape Hybrids. To compound the problem, the dealer did not offer to refund our previous payment for the pump replacement. I had to ask for it and am now waiting for them to give me a refund, even though the Ford website clearly states that they should expedite refunds for prior work done once a recall is started. Unhappy on multiple levels.
