Front Seat Recliner Problems of Ford Escort

I do not have any events leading up to the failure. The failure consisted of my seat back on the drivers side snapping at the base. After pulling the seat cover off I noticed that the stainless steel frame on the seat completely broke/snapped allowing the seat to fall back uncontrollably. I was driving at the time and almost wrecked. I replaced the seat with a like seat from a used vehicle.

Car "totaled" in rear-end wreck. Passenger seatback collapsed when hit from rear, hard contact with 3-point seat belts when thrown forward when car crashed into vehicle stopped in front. Got ride to hospital in ambulance! driver side seat back did not collapse, driver okay.

Owner's child bumped his head on the seatback in the rear of the vehicle, and the child's head began to bleed due to a bolt that holds the seatback on in the rear of the vehicle was sticking through the seat. This could injure a passenger in the rear of the vehicle if involved in a rear end collision. Dealer has not seen vehicle.
