I purchased my se in November of 2006 with less than 83k miles on it. Three months after purchasing it, one of the head gaskets cracked. I had the head repaired, and less than two months after that the head cracked again. I had the engine replaced. I have now had new heads, new engine, new fuel pump and a new alternator installed and now am having a new problem. When I pulled out from a stop, the brake light would come on until the brakes were applied. The engine is now emitting a grinding noise when stopped, and I feel it is unsafe to drive. This is all in addition to the violent shaking, faulty front headlight, transmission that needs flushed and loud engine noise. I have spent more on repairs than I paid for the vehicle, and now have to put more money in to it, and it still has less than 94k miles on it. This is my first Ford, and will be my last.

The contact owns a 1997 Ford Escort. While he driving and when the vehicle was idling there were fuel fumes inside the vehicle. When driving the vehicle it took approximately 5 minutes for the fumes to enter the vehicle. While idling the fuel fumes were worse upon entering the vehicle. The fumes become so bad at times that the contact had to pull over and let the vehicle air out. The service dealer stated that it was the perch valve inside the gas tank that released the fumes. The fuel pump will have to be replaced to remedy the problem. The contact has not called the manufacturer.

Ford Escort I was having running a miss during warranty also when on a long trip we had a loss of power we took it to the dealer they looked and did nothing. So they said it was just the car. At 36,000 miles we had stalling at intersections and hard starting I had replaced fuel pump and everything was ok now. We at no time run fuel below 1/4 of a tank. I contacted Ford they said they did not care because it was beyond warranty. I feel that during warranty they could have fixed it Ford did not. Next we were in close calls for accidents with this car. Even during warranty the lack of power I complained. They did nothing. Now that the problem is fixed I feel Ford sold us a car which did not perform as agreed and did not care about the problem we took it in 7 times to fix this during warranty. Thank you daniel king.

The vehicle stalled without warning, the dealer replaced the fuel pump.
My daughter purchased a used 1999 Ford Escort from cooper Ford, camden n. Y. , first 9 months with car okay but as soon as cold weather set in she started having fuel pump failures. This failure causes sudden shut down of vehicle, total loss of power. The first ocassion was winter of 2001-2002, problem re-occurred 12-27-02 and 1-28-03. Dealer insisted that the problem was fuel related that these fuel pumps were sensitive to additives in fuel. I believe there is an underlying problem that is being overlooked or troublshooting by technicians is inadequate. If fuel was source of problem every other vehicle in this area would be affected also and I am unaware of any mass exodus of Fords into the dealers for new fuel pumps. The possibility for a serious accident exists as long as this problem remains unresolved, the sudden and complete shutdown of a vehicle at highway speeds or when pulling into busy traffic etc. Could result in serious or fatal consequences. In conversations with Ford motors customer service I was told that they had no record of this type problem with other vehicles of this type. Technicians at dealer have been communicating with factory regarding this problem and all the engineers could come up with is a "fuel problem" . Apparently little or no failure analysis is taking place as to why one particular vehicle would need 3 fuel pumps in approx. 13 months and only in the winter time. Any assistance in this matter would be helpful for all intents and purposes my daughter has to drive a "timebomb" that we in good conscience can't sell with this defect. Thank you. I hope I never have to fill out the lower portion of this page!.
The fuel pump initially failed within 30 days of the expiration of the warranty on the car. The fuel pump was replaced by kip killmon's tysons Ford in tysons corner, va in July 2001. In January 2002 the fuel pump again failed, and the same dealership replaced the fuel pump for a second time. Fortunately, the failure did not occur while I was driving the car, but resulted in the car failing to start. Had the pump failed while the vehicle was in operation, I might not have been so lucky. The fact that the same problem occurred within 6 months on the same well-maintained car with low mileage, indicates to me that this may be a manufacturing problem with the part and/or the car. Ford had no interest in addressing my concerns when this problem was brought to their attention.

Wires that power fuel pump short across each other. This pump and wiring is in the fuel tank. Car is being repair outside of a Ford dealership so Ford does not seem to be concerned. Dealer was shown the defective part and was concerned but regional service rep did not care to even see part. Called customer assistance but they were not intrested.
Harmonic balancer failed without warning while vehicle was parked and engine idling. Loud noise such as metal on metal eminated from engine compartment. Vehicle towed to Ford dealer. Advised by dealer that part poorly designed and new design in stock for replacement. Thermostat remained open not allowing engine to reach operating temperature. When replaced, the original thermostat came out of housing in three separate pieces. Fuel pump made whining noise from rear of vehicle. Replaced at no charge.
Fuel pump fails even after replacement but they say no problem know of other failures on at least 3 auto in our area alone.
While driving, vehicle stopped running, consumer had a mechanic look at vehicle who found that the engine was not getting fuel, the problem was the fuel pump, also 2 wires, a positive and negative, had soldered together and had bare spots that were touching, consumer's vehicle could have blown up, Ford will not assist consumer at all in this matter.
Sometimes vehicle will not start and sometimes it will, fuel pump replaced twice, Nov/00 & Jan/01. Cj.
Vehicle stalls intermittently and fails to start intermittently. Dealership said the first time that it was a fuel pump failure, second time it was a defective fuel pump, third time it was the fuel sensor and fuel module. Now doing it again. Reported to the dealership awaiting report on this fourth incident.
Car starts driving rough and shaking. First time at 350 miles and they replaced fuel pump and something else to do with gas. Second time at 1215 they replaced the spark plugs. Third time at 1600 miles they couldn't determine what was happening or causing but quessed something to do with 3rd cyclinder. They drove it till it happened again around 1900 with a black box and it showed everything it was doing. They have decided to replace the whole motor. We want a different car but they so far won't do that. This started at 350 miles and seems to happen about everytime we refuel and drive a far distance. During the week it only goes short trips in town. How lemony does it have to be???.
Head gasket failure, resulting in cracked pistons and damaged crank. Failed fuel pump/thermostat.
Fuel pump failed. Yh.
The fuel pump / fuel pressure regulator was replaced, due to poor mileage.
When filling gas tank, fuel pump stops constantly and then spills fuel on the ground.
