Gasoline Engine Problems of Ford Escort

I have had near accidents relating to car fuel pump or transmission shops couldn't find any problems but the drivablity of my 98 Escort zx2 cost me more money in problem solving, 1,500 plus in recent repairs including emergency and repeat repairs and faulty repairs. My fuel economy is 160 miles per tank to almost 200 miles. No one can seem to find the problem(s). Large thunking in rear trunk (scary)when im taking off and reaching a steady speed. Take the car to major Ford dealerships, to no avail. Car doesn't always "go" from a complete stop in traffic,this has caused quite a scare as well. While driving at any speed consumer felt vibration throughout the vehicle. Consumer took vehicle to a mechanic, who informed the consumer that motor and transmission mounts needed replacement. Dealer was aware of the problem, but the manufacturer was not.

Consumer has to add 1 quart of oil every 500 miles because engine (2. 0) runs hot and smokes. Vehicle at the time had 1,285 miles on it. Dealer replaced the hgo valve, but the problem hasn't been corrected. Consumer drove 5 miles, and it overheated since hgo valve was put in. Dealer has no remedy.

Vehicle cut off several times with no warning during any speed. Dealer has looked at this, trying to solve the problem, but nothing worked.

How can a dealership not acknowledge the motor/transmission are both foreign items. If I wanted to purchase a foreign car I would have. And for both motor replacement cost $2600 and transmission $2800 to go out the same time. Isn't there some law that states a dealership/mfg must acknowledge the type of equipment (parts) being used in a automobile??.

Dealer agrees to replace engine. I bought a new car not one that needs a new engine at 12000 miles.

Moving at 70mph motor sputtered and died. Unable to restart for aprox 20 min. Both times out on the open road and outside temp over 100. Engine temp normal. Fuel better than half a tank.

Car starts driving rough and shaking. First time at 350 miles and they replaced fuel pump and something else to do with gas. Second time at 1215 they replaced the spark plugs. Third time at 1600 miles they couldn't determine what was happening or causing but quessed something to do with 3rd cyclinder. They drove it till it happened again around 1900 with a black box and it showed everything it was doing. They have decided to replace the whole motor. We want a different car but they so far won't do that. This started at 350 miles and seems to happen about everytime we refuel and drive a far distance. During the week it only goes short trips in town. How lemony does it have to be???.

First heard a explosion in the engine, after thet the engine ran rough 5-10 sec and shutdown. Performed the compression test and found cylender 4 compression at 0(zero) and 30% leaked. Replaced the engine with a new one. Problems repeted with the new engine two times( one time in the town road and anather time on the highway). Both times the engine was shutdown.

There was an explosion in the engine, roughly work of the engine 5 to 10 seconds with metal sounds in the engine, then the engine completely shut down. Found the 3rd code, 2nd code (a/c hi-pressure switch intermitent-dirty connector).

When vehicle purchased engine vibrated while heating and ac system on. Brough to dealer 4-5 times state normal. Finally engine removed placed on mount and as a result engine knocks at start up. Brought twice to dealer, claim it is normal can't do anything about it. Still under warranty.

The motor seized up while at a stop . The dealer is repairing the vehicle.

Engine blew out resulting in vehicle smoking. Nlm.

Would like to try to get exstensive information about this vehicle since it has had several major failures.

Service engine soon warning light comes on. Has been serviced numerous times by dealer. No explanation can be given. Have experienced same problems with check coolant warning light.

When pulling out from a stop, vehicle may lose power. Consumer states transmission slips without warning when pulling from a stop, almost caused an accident on 4 occasions, dealer can not find a remedy for the problem.

Speedometer malfunctioned, causing an incorrect reading which is higher than it should be. Dealer replace speedometer 3 times. Also engine problems. Please provide further information.

I'm not sure that my car problem would be classified as a failure, but I bought my vehicle with seven miles on it. At approximately 400 miles I began experiencing a rough idol. My entire car would vibrate. I notified my dealership at approximately 3000 miles and shortly after my entire engine was replaced. The first few hundred miles after the replacedment were fine, however the problem is back and worse than before. I again contacted my dealership was informed that there was nothing more they could do for me. This vibration happens when I am in park, drive and reverse. My entire car is shaking and people in the back seat can feel it in the floorboards. My streering wheel shakes and it only gets worse when I turn my air or defrost on . I don't feel that this is normal for a car with barely over 4000 miles.

When driving up hills, the engine cuts off causing failure. Vehicle has to get on leveled pavement in order to back up. Dealer can't find problem.

Vehicle hesitates consistently during acceleration and sometimes spark-knock and surge causing the vehicle to lose forward momentum. Nlm.

Since the car was first bought the engine has been extremely loud as well as shaking occasionally when stopping at a traffic light. I spoke with my salesperson, who was friendly and took it on a test drive again, and he found nothing wrong. He said it was probably due to the cold weather, but told me to take it to my local dealer to have it looked at as a precaution. I went to the local dealer and they would not see me then so I asked to make an appointment for a better time. I was told that no appointments could be made and they accepted cars on a first come first served basis. Since neither dealer is located close to me, I decided to wait a while to see if it was just the weather. In February, the air bag light came on and would not go off for 2 days and since then it will come on and stay on for a while, and sometimes it will turn off after a few days. This is a major concern because I don't want it to come out unexpectedly or to fail when needed. I went to the same local dealer 2 days ago and they would not see me. At first, the man tried to make me think it was all in my head, but after insisting on having it checked out anyway, he told me they could not see me and that I would have to make an appointment. I explained that I had tried to before, but was told I couldn't and he basically told me to call later to set up an appointment. Since a failure could cause a tragic accident I don't know where else to turn to have Ford check the car. It is only 3 months old and this is the 4th time I have had to see about it which makes me leary of either the quality of Fords or that my car is not up to the same safety standards as it should be. Please help. I also saw on the news last night that several Ford cars are being recalled now due to safety concerns so I would like to make sure my car is safe before me or someone else gets hurt. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me, and please let me know what steps to take.

The engine on the vehicle started smoking because of a loss of oil in the vehicle. Dealer is in the prcess of replacing engine.

The consumer has experienced two explosions from front of vehicle while driving. The driver has no idea what the cause was or where it came from.

While exiting a ramp engine suddenly shutdown, causing loss of all power. Dealer has been contacted.

While traveling on highway consumer would have to depress gas pedal to floorboard to gain highway speed. Was informed by mechanic that air was getting in engine which caused it to lose power. Please provide further information.
