While merging onto 75mph highway, without warning, vehicle lost all power making steering nearly impossible. We were able to move onto shoulder just at the point where highway and on ramp met. We could not restart vehicle and had we made it onto highway, could have very easily been rear ended by oncoming traffic. This is the second time we have lost complete power with this vehicle. We had same situation in July and had paid over two thousand dollars to have fuel system repaired. Ford had recall on this but our truck's VIN did not fall under recall. However, have concerns for others who have vehicles whose vins are not part of the recall. Another family may not be as fortunate as we were yesterday. Ford is aware of these issues and I hope Ford does not wait until lives are lost due to their faulty vehicles!.
Engine performance suddenly became erratic and very rough running. Immediately turned around and went home/ had towed to Ford dealer. Dealership ran $250 diagnostic test but came back clean. I was directed to change engine oil as air might have gotten into the fuel injection lubing system along with changing the fuel filter. On performance of fuel filter replacement, technician directed my attention to what appeared to be small pieces of metal trapped in and on top of filter element. Mechanic said this is very common problem with metal the result of delamination of the inner lining of the fuel tank in Ford diesels. Internet research reveals many many complaints to both Ford and NHTSA over this issue. This creates a very dangerous situation due to loss of power steering, brakes, and trailer brakes which could easily result in loss of lives. I have complained to Ford and my complaint has been duly noted and registered.
Vehicle would not start or was very difficult to start if it was cold soaked for more than 6 hours. When it did start it was not drivable for approximately 5 minutes and during that time it ran extremely rough (shaking the entire truck) with excessive black exhaust. This situation has occurred for all winter.
The contact owns a 2003 Ford Excursion. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The vehicle was taken to a diesel garage specialist who stated that the fuel lines, filter and supply lines were all blocked and the fuel tank liner was damaged. The vehicle had not been repaired. The current and failure mileages were approximately 74,000.
The ficm in my diesel 6. 0 is bad. Ford claims my vehicle is not one of the ones affected by their recall on this item. However, the 6. 0 engine was not a good engine it caused Ford a lot of money in repairs because of this same problem. My issue is if Ford knows the ficm is bad in these engines why do they not replace them and add them to the current recall. I have the 200,000 extended warranty and my original 100,000 warranty just ended about 2000 miles ago. Under the 100,000 mile warranty the replacement would have been covered but under the extended 200,000 warranty it is not. I feel that this is just a paper push type cover up. 1. Ford knows this engine was not as good as their 7. 3 engine b/c they immediately started producing the 6. 4 engine to replace the 6. 0 2. Ford knows the ficm is bad in theses engines and it has had to replace many of them because of this problem 3. If they admittedly know the engine was crappy. And had a problem with the ficm why will they not fix the problem. I would not have a problem with paying for a repair on any vehicle if I knew it was from wear and tear. But this is due to faulty manufaturning Ford says quality is job 1. . . This is not a quality engine and I don't feel that I should be penalized because of it. I have always driven Fords and this is my 4th diesel engine. I have never had a problem with any of them but they were all 7. 3 diesels. How can I get my truck added to the recall with the faulty ficm to get it repaired by the dealership?.
2005 Ford Excursion stalled in traffic and wouldn't restart. Diagnosed as defective fuel injector control module. This module and wiring harness was recalled on this model in 2005, however my VIN wasn't included in the recall. Ford refusing to cover the cost of repair. It only has 43k miles.
Smelled diesel fuel like odor when I opened the hood at home, but I did not see any problem. Traveled to work (15 miles) and left a pool of diesel in the parking lot. Fuel was streaming from behind the oil pan. Idiot smoking threw a cigarette in the fuel and managed to start a small fire that I extinguished with an extinguisher from work before it burned the truck. I opened the message boards at home and it turns out that all of the diesel Excursions are affected. A bracket is rubbing the passenger side fuel line and wears through causing fuel to pour out over the hot motor and header. Fuel line replaced after tow.
My 2003 Ford Excursion with a 6. 0l diesel has been surging and will stall suddenly and without warning. It has caused several near collisions. The dealer had to replace the icp sensor. Apparently this was recalled in 2004 models and newer but not the 2003 model. I feel that I have fallen through the cracks because Ford didn't start installing the 6. 0l in the 2003 model until late in the model years. Seems like they forgot about me and my truck has the exact same dangerous condition as the 2004 models.
Vehicle will not get fuel. Attempt to accelerate and car either will not move or dies. Fourth time vehicle has been in for repairs. Occurs every three to six months. Vehicle is 6. 0 2004 XLT diesel Excursion. Egr valve and ficm module, right bank of injectors replaced February 2009. May 2009 vehicle towed again and egr valve replaced again and ficm reprogrammed again. Vehicle is working for the time being. However, both banks of injectors, ficm module, egr valve x 3, high pressure oil pump, ipr valve, fuel pump regulator all replaced. Car continues to have safety issues regarding stalling and lack of acceleration. Almost gotten hot multiple times due to car stalling and not running. Safety is very much compromised. To my knowledge no parts are available that were replaced. Car runs well for short time and then needs to be fixed once again.
1999-2003 diesel Ford Excursion and all f series with 7. 3ltr turbo diesel. . Massive fuel leaks common . Passenger side high pressure line rubs through over time due to faulty bracketing leading to large fuel spill in upper valley . . Hard to locate and easily overlooked. . Fuel pours down back of motor and could potentially ignite on exhaust. . . . . Exhausts commonly leak at flange at back of turbo housing on down pipe . Can potentially fill cab with co2 and bypasses all emissions controls numerous reports recorded on diesel forums . . . Help!.
Engine "skips", getting progressively worse, fuel consumption rises dramatically. After first repair it quit entirely on us leaving us stranded on I-75 south of atlanta. It has now been in the shop three times for this problem, and we have a little over 3,000 miles on the vehicle.
I have a 2003 Ford Excursion that while driving just shuts motor off and you lose steering and brakes at highway speeds. No warning at all. Ford not very concerned with it and being very elusive about whats wrong. I can not get an answer just keep telling me they are fixing it, after they fixed it it broke down on them on the test drive, and still not willing to tell me what they are doing to truck other than dont worry about it its under warranty. I guess it is not a concern to them as long their faimly is not in front of me when I cant stop vehicle due to reasons they dont want to talk about. Also asked to talk to owner of dealership but he is unavailable to even return a call. I belive this to be a very serious concern as the driver of the vehicle, it is not a good felling when it shuts down and you know that safe control of the vehicle is not there. Ford dealer says its the fuel freezing up I dont agree I have been using winterized fuel and adding howes anti-gel formula to tank at fill-ups. And vehicle has been in a heated garage and shut down three times within 5 minutes. The Ford dealer is brighton Ford, michigan phone is 1-810-227-1171 service dept ester is rep. They told me today about it breaking down on them and that diesel tech has been off work last two days sick! well my question is whos been working on my truck then?.
