Horn Assembly problems of the 1997 Ford Expedition

Three problems related to horn assembly have been reported for the 1997 Ford Expedition. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2017

When examining my vehicle which supposedly had a recall on the cruise control sensor on brake master cylinder, found that Ford only added a fusable link to prevent fire as the sensor may not have been leaking at the time. It has since leaked and the added bit of wire with the blue tag has blown it's fuses but I believe the cruise control has now disabled my horn durring operation. I am requesting my vehicle be serviced properly as the recall was not done correctly to my understanding. I was looking online and just realized this so I looked at my vehicle and saw it is the old design.

2 Horn Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2002

Vehicle was parked inside of the driveway and horn was blowing. Then there were flames coming from underneath the hood. Vehicle was on fire, and was totaled. Flames were coming from the hood before the horn started to blow. There was no warning of any problem before fire. Truck had not been driven for hours prior to fire. It was determined that the fire was due to an electrical short near the power distribution box.

3 Horn Assembly problem

Horn buttons are in a potentially dangerous position for air bag deployment, which could cause injury. Owner is suggesting design be changed in order to avoid possible injury during collision.
