I have owned a 2000 Ford Expedition for approx. 3 yrs. And on Nov. 22, 2017 while my vehicle was sitting in the parking lot at my work(approx. 3hrs) it decided to light itself on fire! I later found out that there had been a recall on the speed control deactivation switch. I have never been notified of this recall and am extremely angry as I have put over $10,000 worth of upgrades to the vehicle. Had I been notified of this recall I would have taken care of it immediately. The recall number is 05v017000 and Ford recall number is 05s28. I have contacted Ford about this and have not had any response. Before I contact an attorney I would like to know if there is anything the NHTSA can do to help? thank you for your time.
Expedition caught on fire in my mom's driveway about 8:30 p. M. It had been parked for about 3 hours and flames began coming from the vehicle. My moms neighbor that lives in the next block saw the flames and came to tell us that my vehicle was on fire. I called 911. The police department blocked the street for the fire department. The fire department got here and extinguished the flames.
The Ford Expedition model year 2000 was parked in the garage for approximately 3 hours on the evening of February 13,2012. The family went to bed and was awakened around 8:30pm by a police officer who had kicked the front door of the residence in to inform us our garage was on fire. The smoke had not yet entered the home but some fumes were thought to be coming through the duct system causing us to sleep more deeply. We got out of the house and crossed the street by that time the garage was fully engaged in flames. The metal garage doors melted with the heat. Later when the fire was put out the fire chief did an investigation to say the fire originated in the Ford behind the location of the battery. The insurance company sent out specialists who said it was the speed control module that was the cause of the fire. My family has been displaced for 3-6 months while repairs are done to the house. Both of our vehicles were in the garage and were a total loss from the fire. The owner of the vehicle was a carpenter and lost all of his tools from the fire.

On July 10 2008 at 5:30am or there about our 2000 Ford Expedition caught on fire. At this time the car had been sitting in the driveway for about 10 hours. It was parked in front of our garage which also burnt our garage. By the grace of god a neighbor was on his way to work and woke us up and called 911. Myself my wife and my six year old got out of the house safely. Had the car been parked in the garage the likelihood of us been able to safely make it out of the house on time would have been slim to none. We called Ford motors and filed a complaint. However, they told us that they were unable to help us at this time. And that we should expect a letter from them (Ford) in about 10-12 days. Once we receive the letter then we could respond at that time. In the mean time neither our insurance company or Ford were willing to help us. They truck was serviced regularly.

On Jan 31, 2007 in the parking lot at 9935 walker in cypress, CA. The incident (fire) started approximately at 5:30 pm. The 2000 Ford Expedition was parked for approximately 1:00 hr before the fire started, a passer by saw the fire start in the left front side of the engine compartment. My son driving the car at the time came out from work and the whole engine compartment was engulfed in flames. Orange county fire and cypress police department was on site. When I arrived the fire was out, and the fire department ruled out arson. A passer by in another Ford Expedition told us at the site that there was a recall on the vehicle speed control switch. I looked into it on the internet and yes there is, 2000 Ford Expedition recall 05v017000 released on 27 Jan 2005. I am the second or third party owner and didn't know any thing about the recall. I reported the incident to my insurance company the next day.

My 2000 Ford Expedition caught on fire on 6-19-05. My daughter & I had just gotten home. 30 minutes later the truck caught on fire. It was just sitting in the driveway. Thank goodness it was not in the garage. The fire dept came to put out the fire. My truck was totaled. I received nothing from Ford. Not one dime. 3 yrs later I still get notices in the mail asking to bring my truck in for the recall. I never rec'd one notice before then. It is too late. I have emailed Ford but they do not care. I lost my truck. If it wasn't for my insurance then I wouldn't have a car. I am a single mother and because of an error on Fords part, I had to start over. Ford should have to be responsible for this tragic event. Me & my daughter to this day are scared to death to park in the garage or up near the house. My driveway was burnt.
While driving approximately 65 mph and coming off a ramp vehicle would not slow down when applying the brakes. Put the car in neutral the engine continued to race. It was to the point consumer thought it would seize or explode. The only way to stop the vehicle was to simply shut off the engine. There was a lot of smoke and burning coming from under the hood. The vehicle was towed to a service station but they were unable to find the cause of the problem.

2000 Ford Expedition caught on fire while parked. This occurrence damaged two other vehicles. (speed control deactivation switch).
On 5/3/01, at approx. 2:40 pm, I was driving north on 10th(amsterdam) Ave in manhattan in relatively light traffic at approx 20-25mph. As I crossed the intersection of amsterdam & 58th st, my vehicle suddenly began to accelerate uncontrollably toward a high rate of speed. Standing on the brake pedal with all my weight only managed to slow the vehicle to perhaps 30mph, with engine racing as if the gas pedal were pushed to the floor, when obviously there was no pressure being applied to it at all. As I crossed the intersection of 59th st, I managed to gently ease the gearshift lever into neutral. This combined with my continuous pressure on the brake brought the vehicle to nearly a stop, with the engine still racing. The instant forward motion ceased, the vehicle lurched into reverse, with the gearshift still in the neutral position. The vehicle then began traveling backwards, once again at the same high rate of acceleration. Still standing on the brake petal, I switched the ignition off. A split second second later, the right rear quarter of the vehicle slammed into an ambulance, at a speed of perhaps 30-35 mph. From the beginning of the incident until the end, I travelled about 500 feet forward and 120 feet in reverse, continuously maintaining maximum pressure on the brake petal. My vehicle impacted the ambulance at the strongest part of its structure, the curved, steel reinforced front corner of the ambulance "box". Had the ambulance been 2 feet further back, the driver would have been killed instantly. There were 3 emt's in the front of the ambulance, and no passenger or personel in the rear. All of them saw exactly what I have described, and I am sure their statements about the movements of my vehicle will corroborate my description of the accident. I was extremely fortunate to impact a vehicle with enough mass to stop the momentum of my 2 1/2 ton SUV. Had I impacted smaller passenger vehicles or pedestrians, many people could have been killed.
Vehicle started accelerating on it own, without having foot on the gas pedal, traveling up hill at 55mph. Used both feet and the emergency brake to stop the vehicle, then shut off the engine, restart and the rpms reved to 5,500 and sounded like a rocket. Replace iac found oil fill cap seal leaking sucking air and freezing iac.
While vehicle is in gear & driving, would have foot on brakes to stop, and vehicle would lunge forward at 10mph. When the brakes were slightly released, the rpms would be revving up. Took vehicle to dealership & was informed by mechanic after diagonistic was run, that everything was according to specs. Manufacturer agreed with dealership.
