Cruise control deactivation switch. I was getting in my truck on my way to work in the early morning. As I walked by the hood I could smell what seemed like burning wire, so I opened the hood & right as I got it all the way up flames started shooting up. I put the fire out and had to wait to call my mechanic he came and told me it was definitely the deactivation switch that had caught fire.
The contact's fiancée owns a 2002 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that there was smoke coming from the driver's side front end of the vehicle. The contact stated that while his fiancée was attempting to drive the vehicle the following day, the brake pedal was depressed but was firm, requiring the contact's fiancée to step on the brake pedal to drive. The brake pedal remained on the floorboard and was inoperable, causing the contact's fiancée to shift to park(p) to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the speed control deactivation switch (scds) connectors had burned, and the brake fluid had leaked from the brake fluid reservoir. The dealer replaced the scds sensor and harness under NHTSA campaign number: 05v388000 (vehicle speed control). The dealer declined to perform repairs for collateral damages. The contact stated that he was an auto-electrician mechanic who owned an auto shop. The vehicle was then towed to the contact's auto repair shop, where mechanics replaced the brake master cylinder and cleaned brake fluid off the engine bay. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 163,745.
My spark plugs are going bad, I bought three tires. But now I'm having to take it to the shop because it's weird noises coming from the tire it may be the wheel baring or sway bar link and bushing the mechanic say.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, it caught fire. The fire started from under the hood of the vehicle. An independent mechanic came to the contact's residence and diagnosed that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 05v017000 (vehicle speed control) however, the contact did not receive notification of the recall. The mechanic informed the contact that the speed control deactivation switch caused the fire that damaged the hydraulic control unit and the pigtail. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer confirmed that the failure was related to the recall. However, the dealer denied the recall repair since the recall was open for many years but was left unrepaired. The contact stated that she had owned the vehicle for a couple of months and was not aware there was a recall. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 146,457.

My vehicle was functioning fine. I ran an errand, came home , parked my 2002 Ford Expedition under the parking shed and went into the house. Not over 45 minutes later my younger sister came and told me that my car was sparking and smoking. When I went to check on my truck I could see smoke and flames. I ran into the house to get the fire extinguisher and used it to put the fire out. I am fearful of driving this vehicle again but my insurance company feels that it can be repaired but can they assure me that this car won't experience the same sort of malfunction? what should I do? I want to drive a Ford Expedition but I don't want to drive this one anymore. I had to undo the battery later because sounds of sparks and the smell of burnt wire was still coming from the vehicle. What if this issue creates a chain reaction to my electrical system? I need a reliable car not a scary one. I checked the recall list for my car but am not sure if the recall is the cause for the fire but when I entered my VIN number recall #05s28 came back. It indicated there was a recall regarding the speed control system. I don't know what that means and really don't care to but I want my truck. I don't want that truck fixed or repaired and if it is, give it to somebody else that can drive around in it not have experiencing what I did in it. Please, thankyou.

I have owned two Ford Expedition, both of which were wrecked when it rained. My concern is that the vehicle becomes very loose in the rear when it rains and that is the problem that has lead to me having my accidents.
Vehicle had no mechanical issues up to the date of the incident. The vehicle was driven on a daily basis to and from work. The vehicle caught fire while parked in the driveway. After researching online what may have caused the sudden fire, we found it was due to a recall for the speed control deactivation switch.
I received a letter from Ford stating that there is a safety defect with speed control deactivation switch for my vehicle. In this letter I've been instructed to contact my local Ford dealer to set up a time/ date for repairs. I've been told by the dealer that "they don't have the part in" and would "call me" when it arrives. Its been almost a month and nothing has been done. What my next recourse of action?.

Consumer letter regarding recall notice on 2002 Ford Expedition. Recall campaign# ea05005.
The consumer states her 2002 Ford Expedition the vehicle lunges forward. Her husband was at a stop light and with his foot on the brake it lunged forward. Her son picked her up in the vehicle today, with his foot on the brake it lunged forward while she was trying to get in the vehicle. Then it happened again at a stop light and they almost hit the vehicle in front of them. At that point, she called her husband and he told her it has occurred a couple of times to him. The dealership did not have any information as to why this happened. The dealership where they purchased the vehicle stated Ford is not responsible for that problem. The problem started a couple weeks ago, not definite.
On at least 3 occasions when applying the brakes my 2002 Expedition accelerated. One of these times I was at a complete stop and saw my rpms jump up to 2000.
Vehicle accelerates by itself while braking during stops. The speed of vehicle is about 2-5 mph and the acceleration comes on without warning. Tachometer jumps to about 1500 rpm. This lasts for 2-3 seconds with engine speed returning to normal. This is an intermitant problem that I nor the dealer can duplicate. They are unable to find the cause. The first time this happened was behind a miata that was stopped at a traffic light and I was approaching from behind when it accelerated and I almost mounted the rear of that car. It pulled through the brakes and jumped forward. This has happened 4 times since bought new in Aug of 2002. It is happening more and more frequently. I have requested a replacement truck thru Ford as well as the franklin square, NY Ford dealer where I bought the car. I have not received and communication from the company or the dealer. The dealership refused to indicate in their paperwork that this vehicle was in safe mechanical condition. This is a severe safety problem and need your assistance forthwith.
SUV will suddenly idles at a very low speed - mostly when coming to a stop or yield. The brakes are applied with much force in effort to keep vehicle from lurching forward into the rear end of another vehicle. Vehicle's engine will then 'die' and I will have to put it in neutral or park to restart. Does not matter what the temperature is. The vehicle does the spiradically about once a week. I'm afraid this will cause an accident in which my 5 year old is precious cargo - daily.
While at a complete stop with foot on brake, engine "revs" and lurches forward. This has happened 5 times over the past 2 years. No accidents have occurred. Took vehicle to shop after the 4th time but they found nothing.
While at a busy intersection, the vehicle engine revved and lurched forward requiring extra brake pressure to avoid collision. The rpms were over 1500 at a stop. This is the second incident and the dealer has been contacted.
While at a stop vehicle revs up and lurches forward even though you have your foot on the brake. Also while driving the tachometer revs up for about a minute then goes back to normal.
