The approximate failure mileage was 94,368.
This car just numerous of problem. . . . . Who ever built this car did not have a good job of doing it.
My SUV was parked in parking lot of a store. Smoke started coming out from my vehicle. Then it started to catch on fire. Fire fighters said the fire started from the fuel injectors.
For many time that my Expedition has stalled because of the throttle body failing. The engine goes into safe mode and stalls and stops, thi is very danger situation.
Transmission bad ,paint come out some areas, replace all the spark plugs.
Electronic throttle control help, I have a 2005 Expedition,. The thing has just started shutting down on me while driving. For no apparent reason, while driving along, it stops running, and after shutting it off, placing it in park, it will start back up. It was so scary , thanks god I didn't had any accident ,this is a big issue from Ford.
While setting at a stop light a warning message came on about checking electronic throttle control. When I release the brake to accelerate when the light turned green I coasted into the intersection only to find that the accelerator peddle had no response. Fortunately the engine idle was enough to get me through the intersection before the light turned red. I then coasted to the nearest parking lot and shut the engine off. Restarted the vehicle with no change in accelerator peddle response. After doing research and seeing numerous problems with this same issue I see I was fortunate to have not been driving at highway speeds when this issue happen. Ford needs to recall and fix this issue before someone gets killed when their vehicle just quits working.
While driving home down a slight decline, I heard a beep and the message on the dash read (check electronic throttle control) which I then mentally added to my list of things to do. Not until a needed to start accelerating again did I realize that my throttle was completely inoperable. Luckily, a word used frequently by other owners to describe this same issue, I was able to coast to a stop while other vehicles went around me. Turning off the vehicle and restarting it seemed to "reset" the throttle control. I do not trust that it will be safe to use, particularly with the winter driving conditions that I encounter. I have an appointment scheduled for Monday. With all the complaints I have seen regarding this same issue, I am shocked that more action (recall) has not been taken. Does a crash, fire, injury, or fatality need to occur before this can be taken seriously? I am baffled that a warning message cannot be displayed in advance of complete throttle failure considering the potential catastrophic outcomes. This vehicle was inspected/serviced November 2013.
While driving the vehicle went into a heavy vibration from the motor and the smell of raw fuel was present. After turning off the vehicle it would not start. The vehicle was towed to the Ford dealer and the dealer stated that a fuel injector became stuck open. The injector filled the cylinder with fuel and caused the engine to blow up (severe damage). It was found that this occured on Ford Expeditions numerous times and Ford extended the warranty to 11 years, 120,000 miles and my scary experience occured at 129,000. I previously replaced the motor at my own expense 2 years prior and Ford did not replace the injectors or notify me of an injector issue. Ford is stating that they will not honor the warranty and the engine damage was caused by the injector that was not replaced. It was found that Ford was aware of the injector issue since 2007. I'm not sure these issue are getting reported.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while traveling 60 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was found that the driver fuel module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 108,000.
Driving on I-75 at 78 mph my car just shut off. I had no power and nearly was involved in a 18 wheeler hitting me. The "check electronic throttle control" warning light came on but after the engine quit. Once I calmed down the car started right back up. I just had my second issue with the same warning light and engine power shutting off. I had to coast through a very busy intersection. Then the car started right back up. This is a very serious problem on more than a few Expeditions and someone is going to get killed if the issues are not resolved. Ford motor company refuses to help. . . .
Was driving when check electronic control sensor came on and with out warning vehicle died in middle of road.
While driving along at 55 mph engine shut down. No power brakes, steering, etc. Indicator message on dashboard said "check electronic ignition". Repair cost $ 724. 19.
I was driving down the center lane on rt 41 in port charlotte, with an approximate speed of 45 mph, when the engine just shut down. This is not the first time it happened to me, and it's very dangerous. I had to maneuver carefully to pull over to the side of the road, with cars beeping, and swerving around me. I tried to restart the vehicle, but kept getting an "engine fail safe mode" message. I sat for a while on the side of the road for about 5 minutes, and when I tried restarting the truck, it miraculously started. On Monday, September 17, 2012, I went out to start my vehicle so I could bring it in to my mechanic, and it wouldn't start. I had to have it towed to his shop. He informed me that he has seen this problem many times with this vehicle. He also told me that people were on the highway when the vehicle shut down on them, and has caused accidents. He reset the code for the throttle body, and the truck ran fine. After doing an internet search on this problem, I see that there are multiple complaints about this dangerous problem. I also contacted Ford to see if there was a recall for this problem, and they said there wasn't. I am afraid to drive the truck now, for fear that it is going to shut down in a busy intersection. Hopefully Ford will step up to the plate and do a recall for this problem.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that the engine stalled without warning while driving at any speed. The engine failure mode light illuminated after the failure occurred. The failure was experienced several times. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic, who replaced the fuel filters and the injector but the failure was not corrected. The vehicle was then taken to an authorized dealer, where a diagnostic test was performed and located the failure at the throttle body. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 18,005 and the current mileage was 119,000.
I have a 2005 Expedition and have had a electronic throttle control failure on it twice in the last 10 months. Both cases happened while turning through a major intersection, the engine continued to run, but there was no connection between the gas pedal and the throttle (stepping on the gas had no effect). Luckily I was able to coast through the intersection and onto the shoulder without getting hit. The first occurrence was in Dec 2011, and it just happened again this morning (1 oct 2012), luckily I was driving and safely maneuvered out of harm¿s way. If it had been my wife and children in the vehicle, or if it had happened on the highway, it is highly likely that the outcome would have been much worse. There are many reports of this same failure on the internet. I will not let my wife and children ride in the vehicle tried to have fixed at the dealer in Dec 2011 and they had no idea how to fix it, just wanted to start replacing parts. Called the dealer again today and they had no other answer.
Me husband and I own a 2005 Ford Expedition XLT (v8 5. 4l). The truck has cut off on us several times in the last to weeks, without warning! it has even cut off on us on the highway. We were traveling 55mph. We have four small children that travel with us constantly. I consider this to be a life threatening defect. My husband took the truck to a mechanic, thinking OH we just need a tune up. Two of the spark plugs broke off into the motor head. We ended up spending $800 bucks to have it repaired and $150 bucks on a van rental. In my opinion Ford should handle this situation as soon as possible. It is a life threatining defect. We are thankful that we made it off of the hightway safely that day. But what if another family has the same problem. . . . And they are not so lucky? I guess Ford will then issue a recall and extend their most sincere apologies.
Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) 2005 Ford Expedition [xxx] engine shuts down while traveling 50 mph, failsafe mode indicator light comes on. This has happened twice in the last month. It is a huge life safety issue when you think you have control of the vehicle and you actually do not. I have 4 children I put into this vehicle and I fear our safety. I have been told today by Ford that the throttle body is faulty and needs to be replaced. This is a part that should never have to be replaced! cleaned maybe but never replaced. I have 61, 000 miles on the vehicle and this part should not be bad. I will be replacing it this week, but I feel that Ford does not want to address this matter as I spoke to the service manager,[xxx]at al packer Ford west 561-790-1100 and also Ford corporate office at 800-241-3673 and all they said they would do is document the problem. How many people will crash or die before safety is taken seriously? why do dealerships not take responsibility for faulty parts. This is a very frightening experience for both myself and my children and it has been documented and verbally expressed to several people now. I would like to see action taken before someone dies.
2005 Ford Expedition - normal driving, complete loss of drive power. Comes up as electronic throttle. You must pull off road, turn vehicle off, then restart. This is very widespread, just do a google search for throttle Expedition. It has recurred at various times always seeming to reset. Ford want $700 to fix.
The vehicle loses power while you are driving, there is no warning of any type. Just all of a sudden your truck won't move. This can cause someone to rear end your vehicle.
