We took the vehicle to our local Ford service center approx. Aug. 2017 with mileage at approx. 54000 miles while the vehicle was still covered under factory warranty. We were experiencing a sudden downshift in the transmission when driving in city streets. The instrument cluster would show the speed at 0 mph and the message --- miles to empty would display. The dealership was not able to pull any codes at that time or duplicate the symptoms on the vehicle. Our VIN was not covered under any recall. We were not charged. No check engine light has ever displayed until April 5th, 2018. I was driving the vehicle on the highway in heavy traffic going 75 mph. The vehicle suddenly downshifted causing me to pull over onto the shoulder. Current mileage is 60400. The instrument cluster did the same thing as previously. The check engine light and wrench light came on as well. I took the vehicle in to an auto parts store to get scanned and they pulled code p0270. It is my understanding that Ford is expanding their recall due to more complaints. We have an appointment for April 24, 2018. Fortunately, we have a Ford extended service plan. The deductible is $100. 00. I believe this vehicle is experiencing the conditions under Ford's recall number 16s19, NHTSA campaign number: 16v248000. This is my wife's primary vehicle. She has experienced the sudden downshift on many occasions lately but no check engine light. My wife states that she has to pull over and turn the vehicle off. A few minutes later she restarts the vehicle and the symptoms sometimes quit. Sometimes it takes a few cycles of turning the vehicle on and off for them to go away. Her route to work involves a lot of highway traffic with a lot of semi's (tractor trailers) due to where we live (oil field traffic). Safety is my main concern. I have her text me every day when she arrives to work(school) with our 9yr old son.
~tl the contact owns a 2012 Ford Expedition. While driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle downshifted without warning and the rear tires seized. The vehicle was taken to joe myers Ford (16634 northwest fwy, houston, TX 77040) where it was confirmed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 16v248000 (power train). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA. The approximate failure mileage was 91,000.
Recall TSB 13-6-8 vehicle built in kentucky truck plant July 2012 equipped with 6r80 transmission exhibits engagement in 5th gear. Wrench light comes on, speedometer reads zero and odometer displays dashes while driving. Ford states it is not part of recall. Ford diagnosed problem with solution of replacing molded leadframe.
Vehicle downshifts while driving at different speeds. Panel reads, flat tires, no fuel, no gauges will work. I was pulling out of a gas station on a major hwy, I gave the vehicle gas to enter the lane, as I was approaching a higher speed , my vehicle downshifted and the vehicle behind me had to slam on their breaks to avoid hitting me in the back. Another time at a high rate of speed on an interstate , as I was switching lanes, my vehicle downshifts almost causing another wreck. If it had not been for car seats, my grandchildren would have hit the floor. If it had not been for the other drivers quick actions, people could have been injured or even worse dead. After a few more incidents, I find out a recall for this problem was made, but not on my vehicle . Same year, same model, same factory, just not my VIN! recall 16s19- NHTSA id# 16v248000 . My vehicle has 74,000 miles on it, so it is not covered under a warranty. Notice I'm attached picture. 0 mph, but look at the 2000 rpm. Check engine light on. I have a video of it doing this several times.
Vehicle, while traveling, will downshift into lower gear and clunk. Yellow wrench warning light will illuminate and speedometer with drop to zero all while still moving. A series of additional warning lights will appear. Vehicle will loose power to only limp mode. Warning will reset upon shutting off engine. This has happened twice.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Expedition. While driving approximately 2 mph, the vehicle independently downshifted. The check engine, fuel, and tire sensor warning indicators illuminated. In addition, the speedometer failed. The vehicle was taken to rivertown Ford (1680 whittlesey rd, columbus, GA 31904) where it was diagnosed that the led frame needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure recurred several times. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened a case to be sent to the dealer. The failure mileage was 143,115. The VIN was not available.
While driving vehicle on a city street it down shifted and caused tires to skid. I contacted Ford motor company after researching the problem and finding a recall for this situation (16s19). However they informed me that my vehicle is not included in the recall.
Our 2012 Expedition is experiencing repeated intermittent loss of transmission output and unexpected downshift into first gear (as noted in the Ford recall notice dated April 2016). This is a major safety risk for our family. We bought the vehicle as a certified Ford, but the recall hadn't been addressed. To deal with the problem, we brought the vehicle to another Ford dealer. The dealer said they made the repair specified in recall notice (control module reprogramming), but that didn't solve the problem: the intermittent loss of transmission output continues. Now the recall notice has been removed from our record and the recall notice is no longer associated with VIN. This is unacceptable. We need this to be repaired!.
Tl-the contact owns a 2012 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph that the vehicle down shifted into first gear independently with the power train sensor warning light illuminated. The vehicle was repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 16v248000 (power train), however the recall remedy failed to repair the vehicle. The vehicle was serviced at legacy Ford of mcdonough located on 413 industrial blvd, mcdonough, GA, 30253, where the next day the dealer was contact and informed. The contact was told to bring the vehicle back in. The contact informed the dealer that she was afraid to drive the vehicle due to the failure. The dealer informed the contact that she could take the vehicle to any other Ford dealer to diagnosis the failure. The contact then called a closer local dealer, courtesy Ford, located on 1636 dogwood dr se, conyers, GA, 30001, where the vehicle was taken. The contact mention while driving to the second dealer the speedometer dropped to zero, there was a jolt, and the vehicle would not incline pass 30 mph. The second dealer informed the contact that after having the vehicle for a week that they were unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but the manufacturer did not offer any further assistance under case number: 12629998. The contact also inquired on a loaner vehicle which they declined due to no diagnosis available on her vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.
While driving especially on the highway there is a downshift in the gears and the instrument panel goes blank I then pull over to the side of the highway turn of the engine and then start up again and every thing is back to normal. On 1/22/17 it was really bad as the same happened and I tried to pick up speed but nothing happened I had to put on my flashers and easy over to the embarkment. On 10/05/16 I took the vehicle back for power train control module to the dealership but as far as I am concerned the problem still exist. As a matter of fact this has happed quite a few times since October.
While driving with my four children the vehicle will down shift all of a sudden while traveling down the freeway. Brought it to the dealership and was told it was not under warranty they said to call the Ford 1-800 #. Called 1-800 # and was told that it was not on the recall yet. So I am expected to pay for a repair which could be placed on a recall list. The diagnosis was the lead frame and the same issues as the recall.
I was driving about 40 mph, and the vehicle on the vehicle appeared to have a sudden downshift. The card drastically reduce speed very quickly and remained in a low gear although it said it was in drive. The description of what happened matches recall 16s19, however, they said my specific vehicle was not available for that recall. Same year and very similar issue.
Vehicle downshifts abruptly while being driven at approximately 55 to 60 miles per hour. Very dangerous, it can cause an accident. Some vehicles were recalled but Ford says my VIN number was not in the vehicles that were recalled. The description of the problem is exactly as the one described to the recalls in 184,000 Ford vehicles from 2011-2012. A wrench shows up in the dash board and a sign that shows low gasoline levels. When this problem occurs the only option is to pullover as fast as possible. I stopped turned of the car and turned it back on. After the car would drive normally without showing anything on the dashboard and without any problems. I have experienced this in the last 3 weeks at least 7 times. When a scanner is connected it does not show any signs or problems. Very dangerous experience every time it happened. It usually happened at a high speed in the highway which makes it even a more dangerous situation. It happened while the vehicle was in motion and being driven over 55 miles per hour. It feels like it downshifts from 5th to 1st gear without any reason. Only while driving 55 miles per hour or more. It relates to recall 12v190000 and it seems like Ford promised to replace the "lead frame" which causes this defect at no charge under 10 years or 150,000 miles. They say my VIN number does not have recalls. I firmly believe that the symptoms of the problem are exactly the same as what all the 184,000 cars between 2011-2012 had experienced. It is an extremely dangerous situation to be in. I also found that in the past 3 cars were involved in accidents due to this issue and thankfully no fatalities. I do not want to be involved in an accident due to this negligence from Ford. Please hold them responsible and acountable for their poor accountability.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Expedition. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16v248000 (power train) and stated that the part needed for the repair was not available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Expedition. While driving approximately 60 mph, the transmission downshifted into first and second gear independently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 16v248000 (power train). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford Expedition. While driving 55 mph, the vehicle downshifted without warning and stalled more than once. The contact had to quickly coast the vehicle over to the side of the road and was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic who was unable to replicate and diagnosis the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The failure mileage was not available.
Could hear a loud metal to metal grinding sound. Finally had the Expedition towed to dealership. 3 struts need to be replaced as well as the shocks. Driver side bearing was worn out. The passenger side is almost there. The Expedition only has 50,000 miles. After getting this information from the dealer we read the power train warranty. The warranty will only replace the driver side bearing. When the passenger side is making the same noise dealership said to bring it in.
When driving the car in motion at speeds over 40 mph the breaks would lock up and the car would come to a complete stop.
My transmission shifts down in situations it shouldn't. It also doesn't matter how fast I am going. This creates an issue with steering. I tried to have it fixed but they couldn't figure out what was wrong and it doesn't do it all the time so I couldn't recreate the problem for them. The problem always happens when I am traveling at high speeds (60-80) and usually when I have been going up and down mountains in my area. It happened very frequently when I used cruise control in the past and I start going downhill. I stopped using cruise control because of that.
On many occasions from around may or June of 2013, when the car is accelerating from first to second gear it "jumps". It feels as if someone has hit the back of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken back to the dealership 3 times. Each time they have updated the software and supposedly solved the problem. After each return of the vehicle the problem had only gotten worse. The second time after being "fixed" by the dealership the very next day someone almost rear ended the vehicle because the "jump" was so impactful that I suddenly applied my brakes thinking someone had rear ended me. The car behind me stop just an hair short of hitting the vehicle. Beyond getting whiplash from the constant "jumps", I am afraid that something very serious will happen if this is not fixed or corrected.
