Two problems related to engine crank/camshaft position sensor have been reported for the 2018 Ford Expedition. The most recently reported issues are listed below. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started there would be a grinding noise coming from front-end of the vehicle. The noise occurred whenever starting the vehicle, however, it was more apparent when it was the initial start. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who diagnosed that the cam phaser had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact stated that the dealer informed them it was a known failure. The manufacturer had been made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 46,000.
The contact’s daughter owns a 2018 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that she noticed that her daughter’s vehicle made an abnormal sound upon start up. No warning lights was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the cam phaser failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was offered half the cost. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
