37 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2025

Very delayed shift from 3rd to 4th and 4th to 5th gear. Sometimes jumping out of gear when attempting to pass or using the interstate on ramp.

38 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/25/2025

As I was driving the transmission started to jerk. As I pressed the gas pedal the car began to downshift and made a huge bang noise and wasn’t going anywhere, as cars are passing me . I was on the freeway I was scared for my life and my family’s life that someone was going to rear end me.

39 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/17/2025

Vehicle has a rattle upon starting. Also the vehicle is shifting harshly and slipping. Sometimes the vehicle will stop accelerating in the middle of the road, or when accelerating from a stopped position. The rpms will rise but the vehicle stops having power and the gear indicator moves up and down until it clicks back into a gear and the vehicle will go again. I have had the vehicle examined by a technician and have been told that it is the cam phasers, cdf drum/transmission, and torque converter. Ford will not honor any warranty or cover the cost of these repairs.

40 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2025

Ford knowingly put in a faulty cdf drum to cut corners and make more profit (hence the class action lawsuit) and transmission shifts erratically (1-3-5-10-1-6) safety concern. Loss of power while driving.

41 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/04/2025

10r80 transmission failure; transmission bound up in traffic, while under power causing the steering to bind. Dealer diagnosed failure of clutch due to cdf drum bushing failure.

42 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/27/2025

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was able to be restarted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the nhsta hotline for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 93,000.

43 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2025

The transmission has delays in shifting up and down causing unpredictable ability to accelerate when entering highways in front of speeding vehicles. The Ford technician confirmed the issue and stated that ultimately, the transmission could fail at anytime. The Ford technician strongly encouraged me to replace the transmission after his the dealership inspected the vehicle and were able to replicate the problem. This was an out of pocket expense. Ford has detailed this failure in technical service bulletin 25-2023 which states harsh engagement delayed engagement harsh shift delayed shift.

44 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2025

The vehicle electronically put itself in to park at 75 mph.

45 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2025

When driving down the interstate or crossing traffic the transmissions in these vehicles will slip causing you to be immobile. Possibly causing death.

46 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2025

My 2019 Ford Expedition started making a rattling noise when starting the engine, the noise continued to get louder and the engine beagn to make a knocking noise when idling, and trouble starting when cold. I was ouyt of warrenty by a few thousand miles when I had to bring it to be repaired and I was told the cam phasers were faulty and it was a known issue even though Ford not issuing a recall. In my vehicle there was a spring missing and parts loose that dislodged into the engine that could cause it to get caught distroying the entire motor while driving which could seriously injure not just the driver but loose control of car and cause major accident. Doing research this seems to been a common issue in the Ford Expedition 2018-2020. There should be a recall for faulty part not just if your still covered under warrenty, it is a serious malfuntion that can really cause bad accident that is not a service or operator error that causes a malfunctioning/breaking of cam phasers.

47 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2025

When driving on a highway we went to pass a slower moving vehicle. When pulling out into the oncoming lane to accelerate the automatic transmission slipped into neutral. This situation became dangerous because there was a vehicle coming at us and we had to break to get back behind the slower vehicle. However the transmission did go back into gear causing us to become a hazard to the vehicles behind us. Again this happened on the interstate when accelerating to get on the interstate. This is a known problem by Ford and has been documented many times. Ford claims that since the vehicle is past the warranty period they aren't responsible to repair.

48 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2025

I have started noticing rough shifting, delayed engagement, harsh shifts, and sometimes even slipping between gears. Have taken to the dealership and it is needing a whole new transmission.

49 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2025

While driving at approximately 70 mph on an interstate highway, the vehicle intermittently loses propulsion during acceleration. Engine power drops suddenly and the vehicle coasts for several seconds before power returns. This has occurred multiple times and creates an immediate safety hazard due to sudden loss of speed in active traffic lanes. The engine also produces a loud rattle at cold start. These symptoms began at approximately 70,000 miles and progressively worsened. A Ford dealership later diagnosed cam phaser failure at 88,938 miles. The loss of propulsion occurs without warning lights or driver alerts. Sudden reduction in engine power at highway speeds increases the risk of rear-end collision or loss of vehicle control. This condition presents a significant safety concern.

50 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2024

Vehicle has a rattle upon starting. Also the vehicle is shifting harshly and slipping. Sometimes the vehicle will occasionally stop accelerating in the middle of the road. The rpms will rise but the vehicle stops having power. After a minute it finally jerks and the vehicle will go again. I have had the vehicle examined by a technician and have been told that it is the cam phasers, cdf drum/transmission, and torque converter.

51 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2024

I was on the freeway going between 65-70mph when I felt a hard shift and lost all acceleration. The truck started to slow down and the wrench light came on. I was able to coast to the shoulder and turn my hazards on while the wrench light and warnings were going. I parked the truck and waited for my husband to help. The truck sat for approximately 20 minutes when it was turned back on. There were no lights on the dash and the wrench warning went away [xxx] husband was able to drive it home. I had my three kids in the truck and it was a terrifying experience. I took it to get scanned and it gave us a throttle body code. My vehicle supposedly isn't affected but this experience tells me that myself and my kids are in more danger than what is being claimed. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

52 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2024

Rattles on every cold start related to cam phasers going bad.

53 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2024

Ongoing transmission issue that Ford has not recalled from the release of the 10 speed transmission until 2022 when they replaced the csf drum.

54 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2024

The contact owns 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while accelerating between first and second gear, the vehicle jerked abnormally, and the rpm decreased almost causing the vehicle to stall. The contact stated that after the hesitation, the vehicle returned to normal operation. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the transmission and clutch were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 101,671.

55 Power Train problem

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and hitting a bump, the rear end of the vehicle shuddered violently. The contact also stated that upon starting the vehicle, the vehicle made an abnormally loud sound momentarily. Additionally, the contact stated that while depressing the accelerator pedal from a complete stop, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact stated that upon releasing and slightly depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle responded. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while driving at various speeds, which required the contact to slightly depress the accelerator pedal several times until the vehicle progressively accelerated to the desired speed. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. Additionally, the manufacturer informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.

56 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2024

This appears to be a common problem when I researched it online. When trying to accelerate hard, the transmission will suddenly go to neutral instead of shifting. This causes a pause in accelerating when you need. It will then slam in to gear a few seconds later with various warnings about the transmission showing on the dash. I have had the vehicle inspected right after an incident that happened and there are no codes though you have warnings that temporarily show on the dash when it happens. The most recent incident was on the freeway while changing lanes to go around slower traffic and caused the person behind us to have to hit their brakes since the vehicles was unable to accelerate and even slowed instead for several seconds.

57 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2024

With our Expedition on numerous occasions the transmission will be acting as normal and then go into a false neutral which will leave the vehicle unable to accelerate or be moved over to safety, it has happened while trying to merge and nearly causing a accident and then on another occasion crossing a non divided highway only to leave me stranded unable to make it move with oncoming traffic, very dangerous situation . . The problem is very hard to replicate for dealers to diagnose.

58 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2024

I own 2019 Expedition had a powertrain malfunction happened to me around 48k miles a few years back on the i35 by pauls valley, ok and we all most got ran off the road. Scary. Was able to get home which was 30 minutes away on back road going about 35mph. Next morning no, light vehicle was fine. I did report this to my local Ford dealer, charles allen Ford in chickasha, ok. Was advised it was most likely due to condensation within a sensor or weather change. I trusted them on their assessment since it hasn’t happened again. This past Monday coming from sons football game which is 26 miles away it happens again, vehicle stalling and we almost got hit by a semi truck. I currently have 84k miles next morning was fine. No codes showing and vehicle ran as usual. I told jim allen who owns the charles allen Ford about this when I seen Tuesday at the local ymca. He advised probably weather change within a sensor. Told me to bring it for a check and they would take care of me. I didn’t as I don’t have the money to do that, especially after hearing other stories how the dealership kept the vehicle for weeks to months without finding an issue. So I took to my neighbor owns a diesel mechanic shop so we put on lift and check transmission fluid, clear and no flakes. Check lines although I do have a coolant / water hose leakage, which I order the part for. Ford needs to address this issue. I’m a [xxx] who depends on my vehicle to go to much needed va appointments in oklahoma city. Please help. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

59 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2024

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while the vehicle was cold and driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle started shuddering abnormally between gears, and the rpm increased, causing the vehicle to lose power. The contact stated that after the hesitation, the vehicle returned to normal operation. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the transmission was faulty and needed to be replaced. However, an unknown module was reprogrammed, and the main control body valve was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and contact was provided TSB: 24-2101. The approximate failure mileage was 62,000.

60 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2024

I am being told that the cam phasers need to be replaced. This is a well known issue to Ford. They did a programming adjustment in 2021, and then did replacements only if you had continued issues up until Jan 2023. I have issues now, and they are telling me I am not covered. The cam phasers have been redesigned so they know they installed poorly designed parts originally. This is an almost $4,000 repair.

61 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2024

Vehicle randomly downshifts into first gear and get stuck in higher gears, allowing no acceleration, causing serious traffic accident.

62 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2024

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while operating the vehicle, the transmission experienced hard shifting with the transmission slipping between gears third and fifth gear, causing the vehicle to decelerate. Additionally, the vehicle failed to properly accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the clutch was faulty, and that the transmission needed to be replaced or rebuilt. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 99,000.

63 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2024

On three separate occasions, my vehicle lost the ability to accelerate. The first time I was attempting to pass slow moving farm equipment when my vehicle lost power, had a loud vibrating/rattling noise and multiple dashboard warnings flashed. Luckily, I was able to merge back into my lane and pull off the side of the road. I took the vehicle in for service and was told I needed new phasers. Once I got my vehicle back, I was still experiencing issues. Fortunately, the next two times my vehicle lost power I was driving at low speeds. I did have my kids with me on one occasion and it scared them quite a bit. I am not sure what the loud noise is but they stopped riding with me after that. Thank goodness I was not driving my family on the highway when experiencing a power failure. My vehicle is back at a dealership waiting for a new transmission.

64 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2024

My Ford Expedition max started to make a rattling noise after I start the vehicle, if the car was running for a while I could turn it off and on again and wouldnt hear the noise, but if the engine was cold it would make a rattling noise when started. Then if I do not let the SUV warm up long enough and start driving it would have a point where it would do a random hard slow down before it would kick into gear and then it would feel like it was running fine. This started a few weeks ago the I was driving on the highway and while I was doing about 55mph the SUV made a loud noise that made the vehicle change speed dramatically it cause me to be whiplashed forward before the engine seemed to catch back up to its orevious actions, it did not actually cause an accident at that point (but it very well could have if the road was busy as it was a dramatic chnage in speed as well as the noise it made). I pulled over to inspect but there was nothing in the road and nothing that was being done that seemed to cause the traumatic issue. The next day when I brought the car to the mechanic and explained the issue he was able to diagnose an issue with the timing chain. Upopn some resaerch there many complaints and issues with my that make/models particular engine and parts that have had issues but the dealer would not assist saying there is no formal recall and at 69k miles I am over the warrenty. My car doesnot have any codes or warning lights and has all regularly scheduled maintenance and repairs done regularly but the car is clearly not driving correctly, this issue is causing the SUV to dramatically change speed while driving which is likely to cause an accident and severe injury.

65 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2024

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving 50 mph and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway, where the failure persisted. The service engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 55,000.

66 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2024

While driving on the highway, and the vehicle tries to downshift, the transmission makes a loud clunking sound and shifts into neutral, causing the vehicle to slow rapidly while driving. Warning lights appear on the dash as this occurs, and the vehicle sits in neutral for 15 to 30 seconds, leaving you without acceleration while stuck on the road. This has happened 3 times in a short amount of time, and has put us and our cars children in an incredibly dangerous situation each time. On the third time, while trying to figure out what happened, we realized this is a known issue that Ford has recalled on other models (f150) but has fought recalling on the Expedition. Both the f150 and the Expedition use the same transmission, and Ford has admitted to a design flaw that causes the shifting issues. We would like to request that Ford be held responsible for the safety issue that affects all vehicles with their 10 speed transmission, not merely just the f150 because it is their most popular model.

67 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2024

Cam phasers need to be replaced again, which is only 2. 5 years since the last time they were replaced. Had them replaced the first time under warranty. And then 2. 5 years later was told they need to be replaced again, and it will cost $4,000.

68 Power Train problem
