The engine stalled out while trying to pass someone. The car wouldn't go faster when hitting the gas and felt like I couldnt safely slow down to get back over. It felt like something slipped and lost traction, but roads were dry and not rocky or sandy. Tapping breaks and letting off gas did nothing. It has happened before but usually in winter, and gettin up to speed. Its like the gear shift got stuck.
This vehicle has 70k miles and the fuel pump died, confirmed by dick smith Ford in columbia, SC. There were no warning lights or messages via our Ford app. There were no symptoms prior to failure. The vehicle just died in the middle of the road on a train track with our family in danger. We could have been hit by cars behind us or stuck on the train track with a train approaching. Our family waited 2. 5hrs for the vehicle to be towed and then had to take a $200 uber from columbia, SC to charleston, SC to get home. The quoted cost to repair the vehicle just to get it back home is $2,000. Ford has recalled all the Ford trucks for 2021 that use this same engine. Ford has recalled the 2022 Expedition which is identical to the 2021. Ford has recalled the 2021 Lincoln navigator that is the same platform as the Expedition only aesthetically upgraded. I believe they didn't recall the 2021 Ford Expedition due the the volume of cars that would be recalled. .
1) 2021 Expedition towing a trailer, 30 mph on uphill on ramp hathaway bridge panama city, FL. I floor the accelerator pedal to downshift to try to accelerate. I hear a loud clunk from the transmission. The car goes into neutral-nothing, no acceleration. I quickly let off the accelerator pedal and quickly reapply force to the pedal in a smooth manner and transmission re-engages and I pull away. No accident this time. Occurred April 2026. 2) when stopped car will sometimes lurch forward 2-3 feet when 1st shifting transmission from park into drive even though foot is on brake firmly. Occurs intermittently.
Down to 3 gallons gas stopped and added to half a tank. Left vehicle running while filling. Pulled out of gas station and vehicle started to sputter, drove 50 more feet and vehicle died and would not restart. Confirmed unleaded and station had no reports of bad gas. Towed to repair facility where dead fuel pump was diagnosed and replaced. Ford recall 25s75 includes some 2022 Expeditions but not this 2021 with only 43,000 miles and no previous issues.
Fuel pump failed in express lane, unable to move the vehicle from travel lane under its own power.
The fuel pump failed without warning leaving the vehicle stranded in the express lane of a highway. This exposed the vehicle and occupants to serious risk of collision. The vehicle does not allow the transmission to shift to neutral to move the vehicle from live traffic lane when the engine is not running. This is the same fuel pump model at the heart of the ongoing recall on other Ford vehicles.
Fuel pump part number jl1z*9h307*g failed at highway speed leaving vehicle stranded in express traffic lanes. But for the prompt response from fhp this would have resulted in a serious crash. The vehicle has almost never been operated below 30% of fuel capacity and has never been operated to near empty fuel. There are no known wear or accidents that impact the fuel system. There were no warnings or other symptoms prior to the complete pump failure.
Vehicle stalls out upon driving when trying to accelerate. Has popped up error which states to check fuel pump.
My catalytic converter of my 2021 Expedition is going out. We had a 2019 Ford Expedition texas edition and I had the same issue. We purchased our current Expedition in April of 2023. This spring the converter was signaled with the check engine light and since then my vehicle has had issues with acceleration, it consumes gas at an extremely high rate and my engine works harder over time. My concern is that my vehicle will have an engine malfunction or put me into bankruptcy by the amount of gas it consumes per trip. I found that many other Expeditions from the years 2018-2022 have similar issues to mine, in fact one of my friends in town had the same issue. I reported my issue to Ford and they said they would not repair. My vehicle has less than 80k miles on it.
