1 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2026

Transmission randomly hard down shifts erratically. It feels like I lose control of the vehicle. Shifting is so violent, it's like I were driving over a man hole with a missing cover. These are under normal operating conditions. Not towing, not hard braking. Not extreme cold or hot climate. There are no warning laps on the dash board. This issue has been reviewed at 2 different Ford dealer / repair shops. The first location changed the transmission fluid. The second one changed the transmission torque converter. Documentation can be provided. There is no computer data that indicated an issue when hooked up to the Ford mechanic computer diagnostic tool. The problem continues to happen after repair. The vehicle is still under Ford warranty. 2 Ford mechanics have test driven the vehicle after repair. They recognize the problem, and provide no remedy other than what has already been done. This vehicle feels unsafe to drive.

2 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2026

Harsh shifting in relation to tbs 23-2250 causing the vehicle response to be unpredictably unsafe merging or suddenly stopping or accelerating.

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2026

Transmission has known issue by Ford motor company concerning defective components leading to wear and improper function causing potential safety issues with acceleration and deceleration. My vehicle, I purchased used with 32k miles in April of 2025. I started to have issues with shifting approximately 6 months ago when it would shift erratically when cold and when vehicle was not warmed up. On several occasions the vehicle, when shifted into reverse to back out of a parking space, the vehicle hesitates and drops harshly into reverse. This has occurred at least 4 times within the last 3 months. The next issue is when the vehicle is initially started up in the morning and placed into gear to leave my driveway I pull out and it appears to be operating fine. When the transmission goes to upshift it will shift on the gauge screen indicating it is in 3rd gear but either I have no gear and the engine will rev without acceleration, or as in the last circumstance, it will shift to 3rd, jump to 8th gear, and have no accelerator input for approximately 5-10 seconds. The shift indicator shows the transmission then shifts from 8th, to 5th, then down to 3rd and drops harshly into gear and proceeds operation as normal. The transmission will not shift as smoothly as it does when it is warm for approximately 3-5 miles. This type of operation has been identified as being contributed to the interior components of the 10r80 transmission. In particular, the cdf clutch is identified in the TSB for this issue 23-2250. I have had my vehicle at the Ford dealer on 2 occasions for this issue and they have not been able to replicate the issue. I was advised the 2nd time that the service technician stated the transmission was low 2 quarts of fluid and they were unable to get the transmission to replicate the harsh shifting condition. This vehicle was serviced less than 2 months prior and no indication of low fluid was noted in the transmission at the time of service.

4 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2025

While transmission is cold. You can start to back up into the street and will come to a complete stop half in the road and half out. Like as if it were in neutral. Then I violently slams back into reverse. From there once it in drive. It will skip gear and slam into a lower gear. The car will also come to a complete stop like in reversing when in drive from a cold starting position.

5 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2025

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle was sputtering and making a grinding sound while shifting gear. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed and determined that the transmission had failed, and the front differential needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the front deferential was rebuilt; however, the sputtering failure persisted. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 123,000.

6 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2025

Wipers are the recalled version missing the little block. However, the recall is not for my VIN. Coolant keeps disappearing. Hard shifting and or no movement at all while transmission is cold.

7 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2023

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that on several occasions after his wife had reversed and then shifted to drive, the vehicle made a clunking sound and failed to accelerate as intended for several seconds. On another occasion, while stopped at a stop sign, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended for several seconds. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission software needed to be updated. The vehicle was repaired; however, on several occasions, while driving at undisclosed speeds, the contact experienced a failure with an abnormal clunking sound coming from the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2023

While the vehicle is in 2 wheel high, it operates as all the hubs are locked or there is a severe transmission issue. On turns which causes safety issues when trying to navigate corners. My wife hit a curb because of the issue. It causes a severe drag and terrible sound. It also has extremely rough shifting. We had a 2019 navigator with the same drivetrain that had issues that eventually had to have the motor replaced with less than 10,000 miles.

9 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2023

Unintended acceleration just after engaging the transmission in forward motion. This has happened four (4) times since new.

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2023

Transmission shifted into neutral while driving at highway speed.

11 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2023

Transmission experiencing hard shifting when changing gears. New 2022 with 319 miles.

12 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2022

The contact owns a 2022 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the infotainment screen would go blank without warning; in some instances, the vehicle would also shut off once the screen went blank. The contact also stated that the vehicle's adaptive driving system feature would independently active; this would cause the vehicle to jerk out of its current lane and the contact would temporary control of the vehicle. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle would independently surge forward upon depression of the brake pedal without warning while in either reverse(r) or drive(d). The vehicle was taken to the dealer on multiple occasions; the parts to repair the vehicle were all on backorder. The contact filed a complaint with the manufacturer. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
