The contact owned a 2013 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, he started to see smoke located underneath the front passenger dashboard. The contact then stated that he then noticed that flames had started to ignite. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that he immediately pulled the vehicle off the road and exit the vehicle and as the vehicle flames started to spread throughout the vehicle. No injuries were sustained. No medical attention was required. The fire department was notified and extinguished the fire. A fire report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot. The contact stated that the vehicle was then towed to and undisclosed lot by the insurance company. The contact was unsure if the vehicle was deemed a total loss. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The contact stated that the vehicle was a total lost. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was advised to call the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

The contact owned a 2021 Ford Expedition. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 22v250000 (visibility) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact's husband was able to pull over on the side of the road when they noticed that there was smoke coming from underneath the hood. The contact's husband opened the hood and saw that the electrical box on the passenger's side had caught fire. The contact's husband attempted to put out the flames with a cup of water before the vehicle was engulfed in flames. The contact and their five children were able to safely exit the vehicle. No injuries were sustained and no medical attention was received. The fire department was able to extinguish the fire. A police report was filed; however, the contact was unaware if there was a fire department report. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and was not yet deemed totaled by the insurance company. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 8,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

Firerelated problem #4

The contact owns a 2002 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, it caught fire. The fire started from under the hood of the vehicle. The contact was able to extinguish the fire with water. An independent mechanic came to the contact's residence and diagnosed that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 05v017000 (vehicle speed control) however, the contact did not receive notification of the recall. The mechanic informed the contact that the speed control deactivation switch caused the fire that damaged the hydraulic control unit and the pigtail. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer confirmed that the failure was related to the recall. However, the dealer denied the recall repair since the recall was open for many years but was left unrepaired. The contact stated that she had owned the vehicle for a couple of months and was not aware there was a recall. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 146,457.
