The contact owns a 1998 Ford Expedition. Everytime the contact enters the vehicle, the interior lighting remains illuminated even after the door is closed. She must manually turn off the light. As a consequence, the battery eventually fails and has to be recharged in order to drive the vehicle. The contact is in the process of notifying the dealer to determine the cause of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000 and current mileage was 143,000. Updated 07/15/08 updated 07/15/08.
The drivers side tie rod has broken twice. Both times was without warning. The dealer has fixed it once and now it is back to the dealer for the second time for same problem. The manufacturer took information from the consumer, but she has not heard back from them. Passenger side rear window does not go down from master switch. Door ajar light does not go off. Left front ball joint separated, then vehicle hit sign. Lower control arm broken, upper ball joint bad, spindle broken sway bar link broken, cv boot torn and axle pulled out of front differential. Tie rod end on left side broken and vacuum hub cracked on spindle and tire and rim damaged. Also fender liner ripped out. Spindle, upper control arm, lower control arm, cv boot replaced. Clip for axle vacuum hub and wheel and tire, removed front differential to reinstall, axle and clip replaced wheel and tire and performed alignment. Damage to hood when knuckle split.
Interior and running board lights come on and stay on, from 10 minutes to over 1 hour. Varies. Intermittent problem. Seems to happen more in wet weather. A real hazard as driving at night with interior lights on is dangerous. They might time out after a few minutes or it may take an hour or more, you never know. Ford should take care of this regardless of warranty as it is very obviously a defect on their part. This has happened the entire life of this vehicle and continues to occur.
All interior lights will not go out after all doors are closed and vehicle is started. As you begin driving, there is no way to turn them off. They eventually went off. Sometimes the lights will go on by themselves. In all cases the 'door open' light shows on the dashboard, but after opening and closing all doors, tailgate and tailgate window the lights "door open" light remains on, and interior lights will not go out.
While driving the vehicle at 30 mph the dome light illuminated and stayed on. The dealer has been notified.
Interior light (dome lights) stayed on while drivingvehicle, even when consumer was not driving. Dealer has been notified. Please provide further information.
I own a 1998 Ford Expedition, when it rains all the interior lights stay on,the panel is saying door ajar(when in fact there is no door ajar). Therfore all interior lights stay on as if there were a door ajar. I find this very dangerous to drive with all the interior lights on expecially at night. Ford told me it was a faulty switch. I ve spoken with other people with the same issue. Also 128 Ford sold me this vehicle with a recall that was never checked. They never did a safety check as they stated. When I picked up the vehicle it was never moved from the spot where I left it, and they never put a inspection sticker on the vehicle and never looked it over.
Interior and exterior lighting and locking system; lights stay on inside vehicle while driving - distracting at night. Sometimes can take up to 30 minutes to "decide" to turn off - other times within a few minutes of driving. . . No real pattern has been established. "door ajar" light never goes off even though numerous checks of all doors have been done and none are open. Running boards and interior lights stay on after car has been turned off (whether locked or unlocked). These lights do not shut off for over 1 hour after vehicle has been exited last. Door locks will spontaneously lock and unlock while driving. "beeping" sound will alarm while driving alerting that doors are unlocked or possibly ajar - then doors will lock and unlock - sometimes once, other times four or five times in a row. Lighting issue occurs every time car is exited. Interior lighting issue (while running) occurs 3 times weekly, if not more at times. Locking issue occurs at least twice weekly. Not under warranty. . . After inquiring with dealer they responded, "never heard of this problem before". However, I have asked random Expedition owners in parking lots and gas stations - all have confirmed the same problem.
Door ajar and overhead lights come on and stay on approximately 10 minutes after vehicle has started without any doors being opened. The light is illuminated all the time and consumers daughter nearly fell out of the car when the door wasn't shut. The light was ignored because it is on all the time.
Consumer turned on interior dome light at night, was blinded by it and lost control of vehicle. He was able to recover and stay in his lane. Glare from light went to sun roof, and then reflected off driver side of windshield. It did not refelect off passenger's side.
The door ajar light and dome light comes on and stays on for 1 hour+ and the running board lights also stay on. Been back to dealer 4 times and still no solutions.
Whenever vehicle ajar light remains on it causes the interior courtesy light to come on while driving intermittently. Vehicle power would have to be turned off to get the courtesy light to turn off. Dealer notified.
The door jam switch failed to work properly. The switch sensors thinks door is open when it's not. Also, dome light in front would remain on & would run the battery down. Took vehicle to dealership & mechanic indicated the problem was repairable, but not under warranty.
The "door ajar" signal keeps coming up on my display panel - when this happens, the interior lights come on and won't go off for 30-45 seconds. At night this is a serious hazard because neither I or my teenage children who drive it can see safely. I'm having the part replaced tomorrow but would like to be reimbursed. The service man at my local Ford dealer told me they are seeing this problem a lot. It seems to me that an investigation needs to be made. Thank you.
