The paint on the front edge of the hood is showing signs of bubbles, like there is corrosion under the bubbles.
Interior lights and digital odometer light goes out and then come back on every now and then.
Car caught on fire in the middle of the night, reason unknown but apparently it had to do with a recall on the cruise control switch . We never received any letter's or notices of the following recall. Vehichle was destroyed and we also had property damage to carport and house totalling $40,000.
On the morning of January 26, 2012 I parked may car at my employee parking lot at approximately 5:50am. I head to work like any ordinary day, and at approximately 8:30 am, I had CO-workers informing me that my car was on fire. I ran out to the parking lot and found my car in flames. My 2001 Ford Expedition eddie bauer caused the two cars on my sides to catch on fire as well. When the fire department arrived it was too late to save anything from the car. It was a total loss, everything inside was destroyed into ashes, my personal belongings were unrecognizable. I only had liability insurance on my car, and will have to pay for the damages that my car caused to the other people. . I am now left with no car, and having the blame of the fire when I did absolutely nothing wrong. My Ford Expedition was in perfect conditions and up to date with all of the services; now that it was the family car and we traveled all around the country with it. We were the only owners and bought it brand new for a reason. The cruise control recall was taken care of immediately after receiving the letter in the year 2004, and was never re-installed. The causes of the fire are still unknown, and I will like to let Ford know of the situation so they can do something about it. It is such a traumatizing situation that I would not like anyone else to experience. I have lost all of my trust on Ford. Be aware people, do not park next to a Ford, you never know when they might catch on fire.
Traveling in a parking lot car died and said check electric throttle control. Wont run or crank. Left stuck in a parking lot had to get towed home.
Started vehicle and began to drive when spark plug flew out of engine again. This is the third time this has happened and Ford won't do anything about it. They claim that there is no problem when hundreds of people have had this happened. Very costly, time consuming, and stressful. This should never happen and Ford should take responsibility.
After making a complete stop at a traffic light I made a left turn and began to accelerate when I heard a loud pop which at first I thought was a tire blow out. The engine was running so erratically that I could feel it in my steering. We inspected the vehicle for a flat when we noticed every tire was fine. I opened the hood and removed the top cover to the engine to discover a spark plug laying on top of the engine and the coil that was once attached blown off of the plug and damaged off to the side still connected to its electrical source. This cold have caused a fire. For the record these plugs were the original factory spark-plugs. Via the internet I have discovered this website to file a complaint.
I bought a brand new 2007 Ford Expedition eddie bawer, the vehicle is still under warranty. Last year the Ford dealership changed the hood since it was rusting. Now the tail gate is rusting and the paint bubbling, but Ford has refused to replace the tailgate. I live in central florida and the vehicle has never been up north or near the coast. I have never had a vehicle rust like this.
The vehicle has done this twice. Driving along, it goes into fail safe mode and stops dead. The manual states this is a coolant issue which was not the case; there was adequate coolant. Doing some research on various internet sites, this seems to be a common problem with 2006 Expeditions. I called Ford customer service and was told they were unaware of a problem. I find this difficult to believe given all the sites reporting this same issue.
I have a 2000 Ford Expedition the past 3 days we have had hard rains. I went out to my car and found that the floor on both the drivers sides and passenger side of the SUV was flooded. My radio was on the car was not. The dash light were going crazy. I started the car to move it so that I could get it near an outlet to use the wet vac to remove the water and the wipers would not work. I removed the water from the floors and when I went to move my Expedition it would not start it seems that it is leaking from the windsheild. I noticed that there are alot of complaints on water leakage on Expeditions. Now I am worried that the water may have shorted out the electrical system.
The vehicle was parked in the drive way and caught fire at 2 in the morning.
While driving at 60mph on us 85 n the engine light came on with a message "check electronic throttle control" the speed began to drop and I could not accelerate. I began to merge to the right to the emergency lane. I turned off the engine and started again. Then I drove the vehicle home. It was a very scary experience I could have been in an accident. It was very dangerous. This should be a recall problem.
On September 11, 2011 we hit a deer, the whole front of the Expedition was destroyed. Jim bass Ford collision did the repaires. In the meantime they claim that the engine light was on due to the camshaft position sensor pigtail being bad. I claimed that before the accident everything was fine ( no engine light). The mechanic did confirm that they have had several Expeditions with the same problem. As a consumer I think Ford should be responsible to this engine outage called( pigtail sensor).
The rear lower trailing arms that hold the rear axle in place are made too thin and with corrosion will fail. This will cause the rear axle to move backward and break the drive shaft.
I thought when I bought this car that I would have a vehicle to take my son to get his chemotherapy but I thought wrong! it started with the air suspension that dropped to the ground when my shocks gave out and the rear airbags couldn't hold the weight of the vehicle but I was sitting in the car rider line at my son's school at a dead stop when they decided to go. (so much easier to look the fool) we then found hoses that had corroded apart that were vaccum hoses and thinking that was the problem we fixed them. It wasn't the problem. I didn't know then that my shocks were completely gone until we were jacking up the car and removing the back tires to inspect the airbags better when we saw that the rust had completely taken over the whole under carriage. Now I have front & rear trailing arms that have numerous holes from the rust eating through them, along with the fuel tank straps that have almost rotted themselves loose, and almost completely broken ball joints. I want to know who is coming to take my son to get his chemo since I don't have the money to run out and buy a new car? I give my cash to Ford to keep my car afloat. I have had this car for 10 months and I owe $2800 but the thing is that it cost more for me to fix everything and replace all dry rotted lines, rust, ect and buy coil springs which I hear now have as many problems. Is Ford going to pay for my son a new car since it is like this one would be totaled since it cost more to fix than it's worth? no, they don't care and I hope when they go home after reading this they can look their own child in the face knowing that my son doesn't have a ride to chemo 30 miles away! I guess it will take wrecking my car accidentally and killing the child I fought for 10 yrs to keep alive for insurance to pay for it or is Ford going to have heart doing the right thing by recalling the things they know is their faults?.
2005 Ford Expedition eddie bauer, 90,000 miles. (vehicle manufactured in 2004. ) while being driven at highway speed throttle stuck in fully depressed position after being engaged for a routine pass of another vehicle. Vehicle was noted to accelerate. Accelerator pedal could not be returned to non-depressed state when force applied. Brakes applied forcefully, vehicle was unable to be slowed or brought to a stop. Strong smell of "burning" brake pads was noted. Attempted to shift vehicle into automatic transmission position of neutral. No change in engine speed noted. Transmission then shifted into reverse. Vehicle wheels locked up and vehicle skidded approximately 100 - 150 feet before coming to a stop. Antilock system and other systems did not activate. After coming to a stop, throttle pedal was inspected. No interior interference from floor mats or other materials noted. Operator is 100% certain as a result of "real-time" visual confirmation, that accelerator and brake pedals were not mistakenly engaged or dually engaged. Cruise control was not engaged. Vehicle has been serviced and maintained regularly and with precision and detail. Vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic immediately post the incident. Throttle body found to be fouled and dirty. Independent mechanic is reasonably certain that dirty throttle body is most likely cause of this event. Independent mechanic has personal knowledge and experience of similar throttle body failures producing similar events as has been described above. This vehicle has had other premature failures, including (1) need for transmission and transfer case to be rebuilt at 28,000 miles; (2) failure of power driver's seat to move on its track at 25,000 miles; (3) premature cam phaser failure and rebuild at approximately 35,000 miles.
2 front window regulators went out 1 week apart in Aug of 2011. The back ones are starting to have problems as well.
I just experienced my second spark plug blowout. The first was the #4 plug in February and now the #3 in luly. Both repairs have been over 700 dollars each.
1997 Ford Expedition spontaneously combusted in target parking lot about 2 hrs after the driver parked it there and went in to work. The aft area of the engine compartment, the front driver and passenger seating area and most of the back seats were melted and burned. The fire was put out by denver fire dept. Sounds much like many internet reported issues with "Ford Expedition cruise control switch fires".
I pulled my Ford Expedition 2002 into a gas station, turned off the engine, and got out to pump gas. I began to notice that everyone else began frantically leaving and telling me to run. I saw smoke coming from my hood and assumed that it was just running hot but soon realized that the engine was off. Within seconds I began to see flames and ran in fear that the entire gas station was going to explode. Luckily fire trucks came within a minute a put the flames out and no one was harmed.
While driving I heard a pop and learned that the #3 spark plug popped out of the engine at 174k miles. This was the 2nd time it has happened on my 02 Expedition as it also happend at 158k miles.
False activation of "engine failure mode" system. Engine went to idle speed, all gauges read normally and no warning lights came on. Engine temperature was in normal range. "engine failure mode" message was displayed on message panel. I was able to safely coast off the road and stop the vehicle. I turned the ignition off, and observed that the engine coolant level in the coolant tank was normal. I then restarted the engine, and vehicle then operated normally.
I have had my truck suddenly jump forward about 5ft after already being stopped for a little bit at a stop light. It has happened to me more then once and my foot is planted firmly on the brake pedal. It feels almost like you are being hit in the rear but there is no one there so what gives?.
While driving down the highway a normal speed the spare tire on my Expedition fell off when the cable holding the tire up seemed to have broke. My vehicle ran over the tire and I could see the spare bouncing wildly down the road. Fourtnately, no other cars hit the tire but it was extremely close since a car just passed from the other direction and there would have been no way they could have missed the bouncing tire in the oncoming lane. Ford does not know how close they came to killing innocent people. The road was smooth without bumps, the tire just fell off. To my knowledge, we have never used the spare tire on this vehicle.
I have a Ford Expedition 2004 on which I have had to replace the rear air conditioning unit actuator 3 times seems like this is afaulty design the repair show claims they replace manyr car a/c unitsegular basis more so than most othe of these actuators on a r.
Well first it was the horn that has been replaced several times and now all of the sudden cruise control doesn't work. I was annoyed about the horn, but now the cruise control. . . Seems like something is wrong with that horn and cruise control set up. . . . And I was wondering about the paint because it is also pealing like crazy. . .
2005 Ford Expedition has been stalling with no warning with the check throttle control light on. Will restart after turning off. I have replaced the throttle sensor twice and has not helped. This problem is very common for the 2005 Expedition. Ford dealer will not help, but offers a $700. Fix that I understand does not always help.
The rear a/c actuator began making a thumping noise and the rear a/c now only works when it wants to and also the heat in the rear. If you turn on the a/c sometimes heat will come out of the vents and if you turn on the heat, sometimes a/c will come out of the vents.
Driver and front passenger head rests at very acute angles. Without altering the head rests it appears any crash impact would cause both driver and front passenger severe injury.
Feburary 28, 2011 I purchased a 97 Ford Expedition. I drove the truck for one day and on March 4, 2011 I parked the truck under the garage around 8:30 a. M. And around 10:45 a. M the truck caught fire under the hood on the drivers side by the time the fire was put out . The whole front end was burned up.
A spark plug was ejected from my 2003 Ford Expedition and is a known problem and deadly safety (fire) problem.
'06 Expedition went into engine fail safe mode as my wife was attempting to make a left hand turn crossing 2 lanes of traffic at a busy intersection. After coasting into a parking lot, she turned it off and turned it back on. It started right up and she went on her way. Took it to a mechanic who said he could find nothing wrong. Upon further investigation, I have found 100's of '06 Expeditions with the same problem and it seems to point to the throttle body. A recent ac repair to this car was almost $800. 00 and now I am hearing to repair the throttle body is upward to $700-$800. $1500 of repairs on a car with only 45,000 miles is unacceptable. The throttle body problem is very dangerous and Ford should recall these cars and find out why this is happening before someone gets hurt or even worse, killed.
I am filing a complaint due to my 2006 Ford Expedition. Over the few years that I have owned the s. U. V. , for no apparent reason the vehicle just quits running, enters a fail safe mode, and all power is lost to the vehicle. This has happened now on many occasions and without any warning. Its happened on interstates, bridges, as well as crossing multiple laned highways. This is a tremendous saftey issue that needs to be addressed. At first I thought my case might be isolated, but then after some research, I found that thousands are having the same problem with their Expedition as well. I feel Ford should find the problem and fix it before lives are destroyed. My wife and children are in this vehicle everyday. Please if theres anything you can do. . . . . Help us!!.
2006 Ford Expedition, "engine fail safe mode" car has shut off while driving 5 times in the last 6 months. The only way to get the car moving is to start it again. Extremely unsafe. This vehicle was covered under an extended warranty and has gone in for service to correct the problem. Ford cannot identify the problem! comes up with "no code". I'm now off warranty and stuck with a very unsafe vehicle! Ford needs to address this problem immediately!.
2000 Ford Expedition was totaled due to a faulty cruise control switch.
The spark plug ejected from block breaking electronic coil. Two weeks later happened again then after a heilcoil was installed and on 10/15/2011 same happens for the third time.
I am in need of your assistance with a potential claim against the Ford motor company. On Saturday, December 19, 2009, my 1998 Ford Expedition initiated a fire in my garage which completely destroyed my entire home with all contents and two vehicles. . Read more...
I own a 1994 Ford Expedition triton 5. 4l v8 that has now blown 4 spark plugs causes the coils and spark plugs to eject from the motor. The most recent on sept 17,2009. This has occurred in the time period of 3 years. Luckily unlike some people this has not resulted in a fire of our vehicle.
The contact owns a 1999 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked for one hour and caught fire. The fire department extinguished the fire and the vehicle was completely destroyed. There was no mention of a fire report being filed. The cause of the failure was unknown. The vehicle identification number was unavailable. The failure and current mileages were unknown.
Cruising down the highway at approx. 60mph and hear a huge thump and then my engine rpms dropped. Pulled over to the side of the road in 6 degree weather with my family in the car, only to find out the car is inoperable. Took the car to the dealership for repair and it concludes that the spark plug blew out.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford Expedition. On four separate occasions, while driving with the accelerator pedal depressed, the vehicle shut off. A wrench symbol appeared on the instrument panel and the vehicle had to be restarted. The dealer could not duplicate or determine the cause of the failure. The speed was unknown. The current mileage was 64,749 and failure mileage was 63,000.
I have a 2000 Ford Expedition, this is the second time a spark plug has blown out of the cylinder, I did some searching and found thousands of other people with the same problem, the last one was a ways from home and I drove it home, just found out that the car could have caught fire. It's time Ford did something about this potentially dangerous problem and I hope you can help. Thanks john bendik.
My Ford Expedition blew out the #3 cylinder spark plug.
The contact owns a 2003 Ford Expedition. While the vehicle was parked, someone used a screwdriver to punch out the key cylinder on the key pad. The thief stole personal items that were left in the vehicle. A police report was filed. The current and failure mileages were 60,000. Updated 01-11-08. The thieves gained entrance to the vehicle by pushing the mechanical key pad out. Updated 1212/07.
I have a 2003 Ford Expedition that has surface rust on the engine intake cowling. The dealership says that under Ford's rust warranty only rust through issues are covered. This seems to be a common issue with this vehicle.
Spark plug launched out of aluminum cylinder head in 1999 Ford Expedition 5. 4l eddie bauer 4x4 and is a known issue!.
As I was driving my 2000 Ford Expedition down my steep driveway, I felt a hard bump and felt like I hit something. I looked out my rearview mirror and saw my tire rolling down the street! the tire was our full-size spare that had been secured under the truck. The happened last year, 2007 around spring time. Luckily, I was just coming out my own driveway and not driving down the freeway with my children. I would have filed this sooner but just found this website today. We have not taken the truck to the dealer to see what broke off but now that I see we may need to for the cruise control recall from 2005. . We were in south korea and never received any recall notifications over there. Anyway, if you've had numerous complaints similar to mine, it may be worth checking into before someone else loses a spare in the middle of a crowded freeway. Thank you, christine holloway.
My 2001 Ford Expedition has unwanted electrical activity when the car is unattended and has ran the battery out. It can cause a fire. I have been informed that it is a leaking windshield and is a common problem in this year of vehicle. The dealership says that the gem and fuse box were getting wet. The electrical items could start a fire.
On a 2006 Expedition, upon start up (not every time) there is a noise that I describe as windshield wipers dragging across a dry window or a winding sound that also sounds like the motor of the windshield wipers. It seems to make this noise after the vehicle has sat for a period of time, usually after a day at work. But it has made this noise first thing in the morning after sitting all night. It has never done it on a second immediate start up. Ford has replaced the starter, no help. Ford has replaced the spark plugs (this was a 2005 recall I was told), no help and they have replaced the oil filter, again no help. Unfortunately no-one at Ford has heard this noise, but one tech seemed to know about it from another customer with the same issue. I have made suggestions to the Ford tech's so that they could experience this same event (that went on deaf ears), they have lots of thoughts that it could be the blender (sp) and that I should not turn the a/c on upon start up. I tried that as well, I will try any suggestion they put out, but still the same noise. They have thoughts about the cam, and they stood there and agreed that the oil filter change would not fix the problem. But what the heck try it. Ford has stated that they can not keep the vehicle to try and find out what is wrong. I am very concerned that this is going to become something bigger and far worse. I fear of a fire in the vehicle. Since Ford does not want to take the time to try and isolate the problem I suggested they put in writing an extended warranty on this vehicle.
Underbody spare tire carrier/winch cable failed causing the spare to fall into the road. I believe that there is a small metal piece pressed onto the end of the cable which broke off. No accident or injury resulted but if the tire had fallen at highway speed it could have killed someone.
Factory paint is bubbling the warranty does not cover it.
I have a 1999 Ford Expedition. The cable holding the spare tire under the car broke as I was driving down the road. The tire fell onto the road as well as the piece of metal that holds the tire in place. Luckily I was driving about 25 mph. No other damage occurred to my car or any others. It was the original spare tire, I lower and raise it once in a while to check the tire pressure.
- the contact stated that while driving the 1997 Ford Expedition into the driveway the cable that held the spare tire snapped, causing the spare tire to fall onto the ground while going up over the curb. Updated 02/2/707.
My 2002 Ford Expedition experienced an electrical malfunction due to a liquid build up in its system. The dealership said they could not determine how the moisture was entering the vehicle. The audio system and windshield wipers would not operate in the reverse or drive positions. The vehicle was returned to the dealership twice, on the last occasion, a small fire started, resulting in the starter being burned up. No injuries occurred, but the dealership charged me $1065. 70 on the first repair bill, and 335. 00 on the second repair bill. An explanation or sensible solution was not given for correcting the problem.
On 3 occasions this year,2005 ( July, November and December) when humidity is really high, and/or snow would cover my 2001 Ford Expedition, I would have unexplainable electrical problems. Either my headlight won't shut off, the blower would not shut when turning engine off, power windows wont work, seated heat won't work, abs light would turn on. An unusual ticking sound under the steering wheel could be heard intermittently. After a day or two, the problem seem to self resolve. This then makes it difficult because the Ford dealers aren't able to help me if the problem was resolved. The most recent incident in December was the most frustrating. I consulted 3 Ford dealers and non of them would fix it for me. I have 78,000 miles on my truck and I did buy the premium extended warranty up to 100,000. The dealer said, we won't fix your problem because leaks is not covered in your warranty and that is the cause of your problem. I even pointed out to the dealers that I read on NHTSA web site that this was not as uncommon as what I thought it was ( referring to nvs-212cag ea05-015). None of them would help me without me paying at least $600 just to check the truck ,because they said it required opening the dash board.
Door side guards finish is fading.
My wife was driving her 1998 Ford Expedition on the highway when her spare tire suddenly fell from beneath the vehicle and kicked up the rear end. Fortunately, she did not lose control, and the cars behind her were able to swerve around the loose tire without incident. Upon inspection, we found that the cable which supports the spare tire snapped off at the end. Our local Ford dealer says there is no recurrent problem, and that we can purchase a new spare tire carrier (just like the defective one) for $100. However, with a simple search online, I found numerous documented cases just like mine where the spare tire mechanism failed and loose tires have caused crashes and injuries. I do not think it is responsible to put these vehicles back on the road when the tire can fall out at any moment.
Traveling @ 65 mph on I-580 in richmond, California, my spare tire fell from its cable held bracket below the frame where it is secured on the vehicle, bounced on the ground, then struck the bottom of the rear bumper, which wedged the tire between the bumper and ground, causing the rear of the SUV to catapult off the ground. The force and pressure on the tire being wedged between the vehicle and the ground caused the tire to pop from behind the vehicle and proceed across three lanes of traffic at a high speed, eventually ending up in the center divider of the freeway. I was able to maintain control, but barely. There is damage to the undercarriage of the truck at the rear bumper, plus the stress and difficulty of keeping the truck in a straight line while trying to come to a stop after the rear tires were lifted off the ground approx. 6-8". The press fittting on the cable that holds the spare tire in place separated cleanly from the cable. The cable did not break or fray, just the press- fitted coupling came loose and separated from the cable, allowing the spare tire to fall to the ground. This spare tire has never been removed from the spare position since the vehicle was new, and of course,is the original equipment spare tire that comes from the factory, and the vehicle is maintained to factory specs, no modifications, no alterations, all original equipment. I secured the parts that I could find from the highway. I contacted the local Ford dealer, michael stead Ford, of san rafael, on July 13th and ordered a replacement spare tire winch and cable set for the Expedition. The part arrived yesterday and was installed. I do have the old winch, cable, and clamp that holds the spare tire in place. Certainly there must be a better and more secure way to secure the cable to the fitting that supprots the spare tire under the car then this small fitted unit that in my case came loose.
(1) vehicle started and shifted into drive (2) immediately after shifting with foot on brake, experienced full engine throttle causing unwanted acceleration forward and almost causing accidents (3) vehicle taken to Ford dealership for service and problem reoccured 2 days later.
Dt: front driver side window shattered. Contact was walking about 15-20 feet away from the vehicle and she heard like an explosion and she turned and looked and she saw the glass fly out of the window the glass was all over the vehicle and know one was around the truck. Contact says that if she had not of stopped at the greenhouse then this could have happened while driving and possibly caused an accident. Her 18 month old would have been in the back seat possibly causing injury to her baby if this would have happened while she driving. The window was down a couple of inches and if she hadn't actually seen the window shatter she would have thought someone had tried to break into her truck.
It just keeps feeling like someone is rear ended us every time we go to stop and I had the transmission checked out and its fine.
I bought this vehicle from joe myers Ford on 12/22/04. I had many problems with the salesperson who is jerry delgado. He lied to me. Joe told me that I was going to make a certain payment and reality I ended making another payment. He also put all these different insurances that I didn't ask for or was asked to if I wanted. I tried to cancel the but they didn't want to. The salesperson was no help at all. He didn't explain to me everything that was needed to explain like how long I was going to be paying for the SUV.
Fire - 2000 Ford Expedition caught on fire while parked in my driveway. The vehicle was parked for about 2 hours before it went up in flames. The vehicle was totaled.
My sideveiw mirrors keep losing the reflective mirror. I have replaced them before and after a while the new mirrors do the same thing over time.
Beginning about 8-12 month's ago, the right rear child safety lock frequently switches from the "unlocked" position to the "locked" position, approximately every 3rd-to-4th time the right rear door is shut. This malfuntion of a safety feature creates situations where the passenger is locked within the car and cannot let themselves out unless the door is openned from the outside.
In June, my 2000 Ford Expedition spontaneously caught on fire in my driveway. It had been parked for well over an hour. It appears as if the fire was electical. Fire damage was caused to my home as well as a vehicle parked inside the garage. As of yet, my insurance has not settled with me despite the truck being totalled. Ford motor company has not returned my calls either. A fire investigation was done by the north las vegas fire department but cause was undetermined. After doing some investigating of my own, I have found many people who have had the same problem. I would appreciate your assistance in resolving this matter. Thank you.
While driving, the truck caught on fire. The consumer was informed that it looked as if a piece of cardboard was wedged between the muffler and the chassis to stop a vibration. This was not accidental. Ford claimed to be unaware of this problem.
Hello, my name is john franco and I live in martinez, CA. I have a 1998 Ford Expedition with approximatelt 111,000 miles on it. I recently had a spark plug pop out while driving. After researching the root cause of the problem I determined that it is inherent in my type of engine. There are a number of websites with stories of Ford owners who experienced identical problems. . Read more...
I just purchased a 1997 Ford expadition, I only put 3000 miles on it and one of the spark plugs blew out of the head. I called Ford and the said they have no records of any problems like this. After doing a little reserch on the internet f150online. Com I found that this is a common problem. I cant afford to replace the head, Ford should be made to aknowledge that they have a problem. Dave.
At 500 miles the new driver floorboard had a vibration and grinding noise when the wheel was turned while driving. The dealer kept my car for 2 days and changed out the differentals and packed it with a "fix" from Ford. Driving home from the dealer my car still experienced the same vibrations and grinding. The dealer advised me to drive it 1,000 miles and then return it if it still had turning and grinding. I returned my car to the dealer and have not received a satisfactory fix. I'm worried about a major malfunction happening.
I own a 2000 Ford Expedition. I was driving down the road 2 days ago when the spare tire winch assembly failed and the spare tire fell off the underside of the vehicle, bounced up and hit the vehicle and then rolled down the street. Fortunately, no one was behind me and it did not cause an accident. Has there been any recalls on this type of problem?.
The cable which holds the assembly of the spare tire under the vehicle broke while driving and caused the tire to drop onto the roadway.
Noticed peeling, flaking paint on hood. Reported to dealer (regency Ford, metairie, la) on April 23, 2003. Eventhough it appear to be a manufacturers defect, they would not assume responsibility because vehicle was not under warranty.
There is a right side cylinder head oil leak caused by small metal chips left between the head and block during manufacture . Ford knows about the problem ,says it happened to 1 in 10 1999 Ford Expeditions ,and other models. They have dismissed my complaint and offer no financial asisstance. Repair costs 5000 dollars.
This has occurred 8 or 9 times in the last 4 weeksã‚⦠(the most recent being 01/14/2003) my 98 e/b 4x4 recently began over accelerating at intermittent times. (I live in mn, and have noticed this problem is worse when the temp is below zero. ) I have had 2 minor accidents already because out of the blue my vehicle takes off as though it is going 70 miles an hour. The brakes do not seem to work when this is occurring. In order to stop this from occurring, I need to quickly shift into neutral, which causes the engine to rev up to 4500 rpm. I have tried restarting the engine multiple times, and kicking down the gas pedal, and each time the rpm remains high. When I am traveling at highway speeds, and this begins to occur, the engine revs to 3000 rpm, and drives itself at 65-70 mph (acts almost as if the cruise is set). I have been stranded twice now, and have found that once the vehicle sits for 10 minutes or so, it seems to be ok.
Mileage lights in dashboard go on and off, dim and then get bright again.
I was slowly backing into a parking space behind the office building that I work at going approximately 4 to 5 mph (just crawling). I have been backing into the same area for over 15 years. As I lightly stepped on the gas pedal, vehicle lurched backwards hitting the building squarely causing extensive damage as it was a powerful hit. This had happened two other times when the car was driven by my husband and parents. Those two separate incidents had occurred in other areas where there was ample room to react.
The manufacturing defect a on 2000 Ford Expedition which led to the consumer's unfortunate accident.
Engine check light is on, rpm's are at 0. 5 and when I come to a near or complete stop the vehicle shuts off. When I took the vehicle to midas, there were 3 other Expeditions, same year and near mileage as mine with the exact problem.
Deal claimed asht ray melted inside due to a cigar -- no joke, but refused to replace the warranty item or report the defect to Ford motor company.
The gas pedal on the adjustable pedal system will on occasion wedge under edge of floor mat. Floor mats I have are oem parts that came with the vehicle. Problem has happened twice in 2 months, once at 75mph, and the other at 5 mph. Second incident caused accident. Driver side floor mat is secured to floor carpet with "retainer" mechanism (hook) this is a very dangerous design flaw in the adjustable pedal system and must be addressed by Ford motor company.
Vehicle begins to vibrate at 73-75 mph. Problem cannot be exactly located or corrected by dealer or manufacturer. Dealer installed a vibration dampener. Actual source/reason for problem was never found.
Brought vehichle to dealer 5 times everytime more things went wrong problem,s never corrected now vehichle attemting to start itself with nobody in it vehichle completely inoperable. No safety defect listed in summary.
While driving about 55 mph suspension light came on without a reason. Consumer took vehicle to dealer for repairs. Dealer had repaired vehicle a couple of times before, but the problem still occurs.
Noticed odor/burning when in contact with rear deck carpeting due to being saturated with battery acid.
Check engine light constanly comes on since new.

This vehicle has had far too many recalls.
The blend door which regulated the hot and cold air passage was defective. When the heat was on, cold air blew out and the consumer had to turn the heater on and off. When the consumer pressed the gas, the blend door shut and heat blew out.
