general problems of the 1996 Ford Explorer

Four problems related to child seat have been reported for the 1996 Ford Explorer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Child Seat problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2006

: the contact stated that the harness clip cracked, and also the harness buckle would not lock into place, which allows the child to get out.

2 Child Seat problem

Failure Date: 11/18/1996

Built in child seat design allows child's leg to slip out of seat/hang between door and sear, also design of seat belt buckle on child seat causes discomfort/pain for children.

3 Child Seat problem

Integrated child safety seat is located against the right rear door, presenting possibility of child's fingers/arms of legs getting shut in door.

4 Child Seat problem

I am having trouble finding a car seat that fits the middle of the back seat. My child is 8 months of age and needs to be rear facing. For some reason the larger car seats do seem to fit securly, no matter what we do it's very loose. Is there a listing of approved car seats for our vehicle. Thank you.
