Four problems related to engine cooling system have been reported for the 1996 Ford Explorer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Sudden and total release of all air conditioning refrigerant (r134a) and compressor oil.
1) no heat, only blows cold air. 2) transmission does not shift smoothly from reverse to drive.
We have owned this Explorer since 1996 and every year the thermostat or the sensor has to be replaced. Is their a fix to this problem from Ford.
Truck has been in for service 3 times for this and still not fixed. No safety defect listed within summary.
