Seven problems related to brake pedal and linkage have been reported for the 1997 Ford Explorer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Consumer could not reach the pedal. Had talk to dealer about driving close to the air bag. Dealer replied that she should buy a smaller car. Owner wants Ford to pay for pedal extensions.
When making panic stops pedal goes to floor but hits accelerator pedal. This caused brakes & wheels to squeak. Location of brake & accelerator pedals are too close. Can cause an accident.
Gas pedal and the brake pedal are too close, causing misapplication of the pedal which resulted in an accident.
Appied the brakes and the vehicle acclerated. The brake pedaland gas pedal are too close together. When looking out the window can accidentally hit the accelerator pedal instead the brake pedal.
