Hood Latch problems of the 1997 Ford Explorer

Five problems related to hood latch have been reported for the 1997 Ford Explorer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Hood Latch problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2002

Accelerator pedal was stuck when applied to pass on an incline. Dealer notified. Ts dealership removed throttle cable and found frayed fragments inside cable covering. There was a recall regarding this condition however, vehicle's VIN was not included. Had multiple problems with hood latch. Cruise control engaged on its own.

2 Hood Latch problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2001

Failure of secondary hood latch while driving at highway speed of 50-55 mph, caused hood to open, and almost caused a vehicle crash. Dealer was notified, and informed consumer that was not cover under a recall. Please feel free to provide any further details on this matter.

3 Hood Latch problem

Failure Date: 09/09/1998

While driving at 45 mph the hood flew up, obstructing the view of the driver. A recall was issued on later model/ year. However, this vehicle was not included. The dealer and manufacturer have been notified.

4 Hood Latch problem

Failure Date: 01/07/1997

While driving the hood detached from the latch, causing the hood to fly up.

5 Hood Latch problem

The hood latch on the vehicle is too weak resulting in the hood opening while driving causing damage to the vehicle, the 1998 Explorer has been recalled for the defective hood latch, however the 1997 model is not included.
