On October 4th, 2000 I had my Ford Explorer tires checked for the firestone tire recall. I was told by the Ford service department, and given a service report, that all 5 of my tires passed inspection and were not on the firestone recall. Then on October 11th, 2000 my wife was driving 35 miles an hour in the city when a tire blew out! upon my inspection I found out that all of my tires have cracks on the side walls where the tread is attached. The tire that blew out has the side wall rubber missing in this area around the whole tire. The cords are showing around the side wall! if a qualified Ford service center can't identify a tire problem when they see it, then a lot of people will get killed until the tire problem is solved. Started with vh (?) instead of vd. Did evetually have to get all four replaced at the dealer in nc because the other three had defects. I still have the spare that matched the replaced tires. My rear left tire blow out in a houston highway on may 09, 2000, prior to the general warning and firestone tire recall. Then I left the us for my vacations abroad and when I came back to college last week and knowing already about the recall, I took the Explorer's tires to the Ford dealer but to my surprise, he refuses to change the tires because they were not manufactured at the firestone's decatur, IL. 28 Tire Blowout problem

Failure Date: 09/13/1999

Tire separation at interstate highway speed. We heard noises at first we mistook for road debris. In fact, it was the rubber separating from the tire. Fortunately, the tire did not blow out completely while we were on the interstate. We stopped at the next exit. The air could be heard hissing as it rapidly deflated the tire. We had the tire replaced at a tire dealer in that area (statesville, nc) under bridgestone/firestone limited warranty claim number 7722731 at a prorated price. The tire had 9/32 tread at time of claim. Replacement tire is also a wilderness a/t. ( dot number: w2hlipy107 tire size: p235/75r15 ).

30 Tire Blowout problem

Failure Date: 08/12/1999

We were driving on highway 75 in oklahoma when the left rear tire blew out from tread separation. It was 105 degrees at the time. What saved us from rolling over was that we were pulling a loaded trailer, and it kept us on the road. There were 2 of us in the car at the time and no one was hurt, but we could have been killed. I have since traded that Explorer for a newer model Explorer, and unfortunately, the newer model also has the firestone tires. The mileage I showed at the top of the form was the mileage on the day I had the tires replaced - I still have a copy of the receipt for the new tires. An oklahoma state highway patrolman stopped and helped us change the tire, so there may be a record, but I'm sure it isn't very detailed. Since this happened last year I don't know the specific information about the model of tire or where it was manufactured, and of course, I don't have the tires. ( dot number: tire size: p235/75/15 ).

31 Tire Blowout problem

Failure Date: 08/07/1999

The tires were factory installed tires, vehicle bought at 26,000 miles, at 31,900 miles the front tires developed flat spots and were not safe to operate. On Saturday 8/7/1999 I replaced the front tires with another style of firestone tires. The same afternoon I had a blowout on the right rear. So Monday 8/9/1999 I replaced the blown out tire and the remaining original rear tire. The factory tires were not from the decatur plant but were just as defective and unsafe. The tires should have lasted longer than 31,900 miles. I ask for an adjustment from the dealer and got none! I had to replace all 4 tires at my expense which was not right. I demand reimbursement for the 4 tire replacement. ( dot number: w2hl tire size: p235/75r15 ).

33 Tire Blowout problem

Failure Date: 04/29/1999

Had a tire blowout on 4/99 and it ran off the road and ruined the wheel, no other damage but to the tire and the wheel itself. I put the spare on and drove to a shop to have the tire and wheel replaced. I thought I hit something in the road, but I remember the guy telling me that the tire had separated. At the time they said there was nothing they could do but replace the tire. No warranty applied as to that. Now that I think about it, it makes me wonder if it could of been the tires having a defect. It angers me knowing I could of been hurt or had hurt someone. I sent an e-mail to firestone and Ford and got a general response. I know my tires start with dot# (w-2), but if someone from firestone or Ford would examine my tires they would see the others look like they are separating or dry rotting at the start of the treadwall. I have looked at them many times over the past few days, they look horrible. Any help would be appreciated. I really do not want to end up as a statistic of someone who has been killed. I have moved to florida and drive on I-95 or the turnpike where the speed is now 70 miles an hour. That will in itself make your nervous now. Please let me know if you can help. ( dot number: w2 tire size: 235/75r-15 ).
