My 2002 Ford Explorer has blown the timing chains in the engine. Plastic parts that wear out easy and caused the chains to fail. Now I am looking for a replacement engine. The engine is v6 and it only had 95,000 miles on it. This truck has been well cared for and this should never have happened. Ford is using faulty parts and causing this damage to their product and now the consumer will have to pay big bucks for repairs due to their cheap and shoty parts used by Ford. The truck started making noise and thought that it was the converter and a very short time after that first noise the engine froze and stopped running. Their really was not alot of time from noise to failure of engine. The oil was changed every 3,000 miles, so it was not from failing to change the oil, it was changed regularly. I love this truck, it drives great, comfortable and for me not bad on gas at all. I will replace the engine somehow. The cost of any new truck is out of my range, so I have no choice but to try and fix it. Does anyone have anything to offer me on this subject? thanks.
I own a 2002 Ford Explorer and for the second time 5 months the same spark plug that was repaired by the Ford dealership has blown out of the engine. There was a loud pop and very loud repetitive engine noise. There was a very strong smell of gasoline, and loss of power. Ford says that this is a common problem and refuses to fix the problem. This is an outrage!!!!!!.
I was only about 1 mile from home, the vehicle had no previous problems, I heard a strange sound then the vehicle was not running properly, I could smell fuel or some sort of odor, as I attempted to pull the vehicle over, there was no brakes or steering, I also could see smoke coming from the engine, I managed to get the vehicle over to the side of the road. The vehicle was also starting to fill with smoke inside very quickly. I was able to get out of the car. It would not engage in park, and rolled while I was trying to exit. I called 911, but the vehicle was already entirely engulfed in flames.
Driving and heard engine noise engine stalled wouldn't start in the middle of rush hour traffic. . . I was going downhill and able to roll to the side out of traffic and to safety. Engine froze while driving with no warning, no signs. . . In the middle of traffic endangering myself and my daughter. My car sat 2 weeks at the Ford dealer as they received 5 cars with engines frozen and couldn't get to my car until 7/8/05 cause they had to replace engines. When engine was torn down I was advised a valve spring broke and dropped into the cylinder tearing up the engine and now I need a new engine. Ford motor will not back up their product.
Driving on the expressway, when we got off & we tried to stop my husband heard a revving noise the car did not want to come to a complete stop. He shut the car off and the problem continued. The car was accelerating on its own. We had to shut the car off & coast to a stop because the brakes were not working either. We were lucky not to rear-end someone & that no one in the car including my 2 small children were hurt. The same thing happened 4 days earlier. I was also thankful my husband was driving. The car had to be towed. I have taken this car in 5 other times for related problems. They can never seem to find a problem. This is a lease car & I have had it for 1yr 9mths. It was first serviced 1 month after I got it for a related problem. I do not feel safe driving my family or self anymore in this car, it is so unpredictable.
