I currently own a 2004 Ford Explorer and purchased new in 2005. Have had to replace, the 2 front hubs 3 times, the rack and pinion steering and the transmission slips exesively. This vehicle is driven by my wife to school and home and used for transporting my family. I keep seeing the same problems onine but no aciton by Ford. Can you say piece of junk.

2 Steering Rack And Pinion problem

The contact owns a 2004 Ford Explorer. While driving 20 mph, the contact heard a humming noise. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the bearings were worn in the rack and pinion and needed to be replaced. The replacement would cost $400 because no recalls were available. The powertrain was unknown. The current mileage was 54,000 and failure mileage was 52,768.
