While driving approximately 15 mph and negotiating a turn the power steering stopped work and quit assisting in turning the vehicle. Thankfully I was driving and was strong enough to right the vehicle and avoid leaving the road. Might have been a different story for my wife. Took it to local Ford dealer and they claim the power steering gear needs replaced and that this model/year doesn't qualify for any steering related recalls. After some research I found that 2011-2013 explirers have a power steering assist recall. Multiple shops claim that this a very common problem with these newer Fords. At the tune of 2700 bucks for parts and labor I am hoping a recall can happen because this is clearly a manufacturer's issue with these gears.
The drivers side door does not 'close' properly, the 'door ajar' sign is consistently on even though the actual door is closed. When you get in/out of the car, you have to shut the door multiple times for it to recognize the door is closed. Many times I have to slam it so hard, I'm afraid I'll break the door. The car doors won't lock, cause it doesn't recognize that the door is 'closed'. The keyless entry alarm will randomly go off, while we're in the house, cause the car all the sudden says the 'door is ajar'. This can be hazardous as I drive as the doors won't lock and we have young children in the car. This also eats away at the battery life, cause the car electrical system is on (interior dome lights, electrical radio panel) since the door is considered open (with the door ajar sign). This has been ongoing for about 6-9 months now.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that the back up camera periodically blacked out. The contact stated that the failure occurred for at least six months. The vehicle was taken to newins bay shore Ford (219 w main st, bay shore, NY 11706), but was not diagnosed because there was a fee. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 53,000.
The apin (navigation/display) system on this vehicle constantly blanks out so you loose all saftey information. Gps constantly goes off course meaning your driving down a road and it has you floating off to the side of the road half a mile away and 1/3 mile behind or ahead of your location. This causes numerous re-routes including those that might not be safe to conduct. The heads up display system constantly blanks out and resets loosing all saftey information, sometimes it stays blank a long time. Ford had extended the warranty for apin system they know is faulty to 5 years I took my vehicle into service both under warranty I paid deductible for as well as in 2018 to have it repaired; they applied the same updates over and over and refused to replace the faulty apin system. Ford now refuses to assist and I feel this is major saftey concern, not only does the product just not function properly but I feel are major saftey concerns when the displays all blank out and reset or do not come back on. . . This occurs while driving. Ford refuses to fix the problem and allowed the extended warranty they offered to lapse so that they could wash their hands of it. I feel this faulting system could result into a crash of some kind by distracting the driver when blanking out; rerouting improperly onto roads that do not exist. And so on. . This is constantly happening and sometimes it wont happen but a few months a part and other times it will happen several times a day with in each other.
When my car idles for 3-5 minutes, dash board starts dinging and all sensors light up. Cold air turns into hot hair, gages stop working, if I turn off the car the car won't start back up until 15-20 minutes later. This happens more in the summer time then winter. So far this month- July it's happened 5 times.
Electric flickering occasionally smells like something burning. No warnings alerted. Interior lights/radio dim or go off or flash. Transmission problems, jerking, loss of power cabin fills with exhaust fumes especially when stopped unknown occurrence dates has been happening for at least 2yrs.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 Ford Explorer. While driving various speeds, the air bag warning indicator illuminated continuously. The vehicle was taken to bill alexander Ford Lincoln Mercury (801 e 32nd st, yuma, az 85365) where it was diagnosed that the connector under the front driver and passenger seats were faulty and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
Driver visor mirror and buttons for garage door opener failed to function in 2018. Dealer replaced the visor. First week of may of 2019 visor mirror and garage door buttons are on the replacement visor are not functioning. Also the lights on the side mirrors that inform you that another vehicle is approaching work only occasionally. The vehicle is parked in the garage. The other visor mirror is function correctly.
Apim unit and plastic body components 2014 Explorer, sync2 v3. 10 symptoms: malfunction of power window controls, radio controls, rear camera and vent controls. The apim also controls many other safety functions, such as safety lanes, park assist, backup guides, gps, cruise control, trailer/tow information, and other warnings/features. It is notable that Ford has issued recalls for the apim due to safety issues in different year Explorer, as well as f150, f250, f350, escape, expedition, fusion and Lincoln models navigator and mk2 models, to name a few. This has been reported once, I spoke with a Ford representative and he setup an appointment at the dealership that was to setup an appoint for diagnosis before they setup a repair/replacement appointment. An appointment to setup an appointment to setup a diagnosis appointment to setup a repair appointment. Seriously, what is up with that? finally, plastic window components had to be replaced. Ford issued a recall on these items but it was after we had the repairs completed. They refused reimbursement.
When driving in heavy rain or snow, I get a warning on my dash saying low battery mode, and then I lose all functions, including power steering, collision warning, lights on my dash and display. It has happened numerous times. Everytime it rains or snows I suffer with this issue.
The electronic door locks on the vehicle will either stay unlocked or locked and it makes it very difficult to get in and out of the vehicle. For example I pulled up to my infant sons daycare to drop him off for the day, the rear passenger door would not unlock, no matter if I used the key fob or the buttons on the inside of the front door, the lock would not pull up from the inside either I eventually had to pull him out of the vehicle thru the front passenger door.
The electrical system periodically goes out, the dash lights blink off and on, alrms go off with messages that state there is a failure of terrain, management, abs system and power steering, then the power steering goes out immediately , dash is black. This is very dangerous , it seems to be a known issue with Ford when researching the issue. Someone can wreck and die with this electrical failure.
Throttle body actuator drove my car around all morning, got gome let it sit for a fee goirs went to go back to town and it started skipping, I had no power to my gas peddle, the engine amd wrench light came on and I could notndrive my car.
Won't turn off when turn off button is pushed to turn vehicle off, we have to keep pressing button on gear shift and it has taken 35 minutes to turn it off which just happend today oct. 30, 2018 it has raised the driver seat twice all by iteself while the vehicle has been turned off and no one is in the vehicle when this has happened. It makes odd noises inside the dash when vehicle is turned off.
Air bag warning light came on. Brought in to heritage Ford modesto CA. Was diagnosed that the wire harnesses for the rear driver and passenger seats needed to be replaced. Was informed that it is not covered by any factory recall despite being a common defect and safety issue. Mileage at time of service 62,000 miles. Cost $565. 00.
Driver door ajar light is constantly coming on. The indoor lights do not power down for a few minutes. The alarm bell rings periodically while in motion indicating the door is ajar. The doors will not lock. This happens periodically on the highway as well as driving around town. When in park, the alarm bell will beep twice to indicate the door ajar signal is on, but the door is locked. This has happened several times within the last six months.
The driver door ajar warning light remains on even thought the door is firmly closed. The warning light prevents the doors to lock while the car is in motion. When the car is not in motion and the warning light is on, the key fob alarm does not engage therefore inviting car theft. The warning light issue began when the odometer reached approximately 56,000 miles.
40,000 miles into a new car, rear brakes are completely worn down. The passenger side needed a new temperature door actuator to allow the climate control to work properly.
When we first received the vehicle we went on a road trip to az and the computer completely blacked out on the dash and the suspension was super wobbly. So we called to make an appt to bring it in as soon as we got back in to town but it was a 2 week wait for an appt. They kept our car for three weeks and as soon as we got it back it was the same problem. So we asked to make another appt and this time they kept our car for a whole month and got it back and the same problem. Any little bump or indent in the road and the car is wobbly all over sounds like the bearings. We have yet to get it fixed and I seen there was a recall on 2014 Ford Explorers for the rear bearings. I called the number for recalls and they said they didn't see one for this VIN but it's the same problem from the recall in 2016 for the same year vehicles.
Ford my key function disappeared from system. Car could not go over 80mph.
While vehicle in motion,, on highwasy at 70 miles per hour dash borad light went completely out for 15 or 20 seconds. This even happened three times. All three times car was on high way performing at 70i;ES an hours or better.
"driver side door ajar" light continues to come on each time I start the car. I have to open and shut the door to get it to turn off. That occurred for one month. Now the light will not turn off and the "transmission is not in park" light turns on while I am driving. In addition, the dome lights will not go off when I park the car unless I constantly adjust the light dial and eventually the dome light will go off when the doors are locked (30 minutes to get it off the other night). Regarding the rear transmission noise. Over 50 percent of the time when I am backing out of a parking spot, I hear a clunking sound as though I struck an object only to find that nothing is behind me. Finally, when I enter my car and start it, I hear a loud popping sound in the front windshield like the windshield glass is cracking. No idea what that may be.
The power control locks have quit functioning. It started with the front driver side door, and 2 months later it started happening on the back driver side door as well. The key fob does not work for unlocking the doors. The door lock on the door panel does that lock/unlock the doors either. You have to manually lock/unlock the doors by hand. The issue with the front driver side door started about 6 months ago. The issue with the back driver side door started about a month ago. Both issues are still happening.
For a significant amount of the vehicle's life, the airbag light has illuminated a majority of the time. I did not believe this was an issue as I was instructed that a light would come on if the vehicle thought something/someone was in the passenger seat, but did not meet minimum weight requirements. It has come to my attention when my vehicle was in for a non-related repair, that this is not the case and that the light actually indicates a fault with the airbag system. So I have been driving around for probably 40,000 miles with faulty airbags in the car in which I am the original owner. I called Ford who expressed little to zero concern until I let them know I would be filing a complaint. According to the dealer, the issue is that the connectors are corroded (the indication was multiple connectors are corroded). This seems like a really big issue - I live in oregon, so not quite a dry climate, but it's not abnormal. The person I spoke to at Ford was named "ann".
Heat on passenger side not working at all causing the window on that side to not be able to be seen out of when driving the car in the cold. Only put cold air out on that side. Spoke to someone at Ford and was told it was a problem just not in my car yet.
The open door light stays on even after slamming the drive door shut. This only happens with the driver side door.
The dash reads transmission not in park while the shifter is in park position. There is a technical service bulletin regarding this issue but the dealer refused to repair the issue due to the vehicle warranty being expired. TSB 15-0047.
Problem with sunroof leaking. Had car 11 years, at dealership 5 times water coming in from headliner soaking all electrical. . . Radio, ac/heater, sunroof controls. Currently, sunroof is open and will not close. Repair 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and today 5-9-25.
The "door ajar" light will stay on whether I am stationary or driving. I have had to open and shut the door 5 to 7 times sometimes to get it to shut off. No matter how soft or hard I shut the door it won't shut off. If I don't shut it off the interior light will stay on.
