The accelerator for the climate controls is malfunctioning. Cannot defrost the windows to see, when driving the windows get so fogged I have to pull over to get them to defrost. Over 50k people online have stated the same issue. The climate controls stop working and there are no recalls from Ford. When I spoke to Ford, the lady made a statement that she’s had many calls with the same issue and it’s definitely a saftey hazard.
First problem I had was with the actuator. I lost the ability of defrost and have the heat/ac go to anything other than direct face mode. Now, the power steering to my 2016 Ford Explorer is gone. It felt like I was grinding concrete when I would make any turn or slight shift. It’s been at the shop for weeks due to a backorder. I’m a single mom of 2 and it’s my only transportation. I’m really struggling without my vehicle. This should be part of a recall ASAP cause from my research this is too common almost this vehicle and good people are really going through it.
On 6/16/22 my vehicle was put in the shop for overheating. It was a water pump leak. It is a timing chain run water pump. The water pump is located in the engine. It was a very expensive repair. Due to the amount of labor this took to fix I was out of a vehicle for almost a month. I paid for the repair. Less that a week after I got it back my ac stopped working. Back to the shop it went. More money later. . . Mechanic explained to us that the water pump is located on top of the compressor. When it leaked it got all over everything destroying it. Now I must get a new compressor. No telling what else it ruined under there. This is a huge problem with this year model of Ford. Matter of fact in canada it has already been recalled. Why is this problem not getting recalled in the us? many people have gone after Ford with no luck and one judge threw of the case.
My touch screen isn’t working properly and I have brand new converters in there is smoke coming out of my tail pipes, also I have to jump my vehicle every time I want to go somewhere.
My rack and pinion steering column and power steering pump went out causing a hefty cost to replace and it is starting to fail again creating hazardous conditions while driving. I do believe there is a steering issue in these models. Also my power lift gate in the back closes without stopping automatically while I’m loading the rear or unloading. There is no stopping safety sensor, I had the back close on me multiple times and almost crush me. There is no safety sensor to stop the power lift gate from closing on you, I have had to crawl in my rear end to avoid being crushed by my liftgate! this is not safe!.
Vehicle displays airbag warning light. Dealership diagnostic test determined there is a faulty connection to the 2nd-row inflatable seatbelt sensor. Ford issued a service bulletin to replace the wire harness pigtail connection. When the airbag light is illuminated due to this faulty connection, all of the airbags in the vehicle are deactivated. Directly from site: https://Ford. Oemdtc. Com/1203/air-bag-warning-light-illuminated-with-dtc-b141b-b141c-2014-2016-Ford-explorer TSB 16-0001 airbag warning light illuminated with diagnostic trouble code (dtc) b141b and/or b141c. This is not normal wear and tear but a safety item design by Ford that has failed in the vehicle. Ford dealership claims that this is not warranty failure. Cost to repair $1085 plus $230 diagnostic test charge.
The electronic door clocks are continuously failing where the door cannot be opened in an emergent situation. On 6/24/20 the front driver door latch had to be replaced and on 03/21/21 the left rear door latch had to be replaced. Presently the right rear door latch is not operating and the vehicle has been scheduled for service on 7/9/21. . When these locks fail you are unable to open the doors unless you can reach the lock to pull up. In an emergency such as a crash or fire this failure can be fatal. It appears that there is a design flaw or defect with these locks. Review of internet blogs reveal this may be a common unreported problem that needs immediate attention. In the event there are emergent circumstances requiring the removal of a child or elderly this may be tragic.
The airbag light comes on due to the connectors in the wiring harness used for the airbag and seatbelt restraint system. When the light is on the airbags will not deploy, making this a safety related issue. Ford has a technical service bulletin Ford TSB 16-0001 showing the issue. This is not covered for repair and the cost is $900. 00 to $1100. 00 per side (there are two sides) to replace the wire harness and connectors. . Read more...
Radio sparking and smoking plus peeling and bubbles inside the hood paint.
Air bag light on dash. Caused by dtc b141b. Found TSB related to connectors under rear seat mp 130. Car was stationary.
Airbag light has been coming on intermittently for over 1 year. Diagnostic test determined there is a faulty connection to the 2nd row inflatable seatbelt sensor. Ford issued a service bulletin to replace the wire harness pig tail connection. When the air bag light is illuminated due to this faulty connection, all of the air bags in the vehicle are deactivated. This is extremely dangerous, and my family has been driving the car in this condition for over a year. Upon further research, numerous cases exist reporting the same issue. Please address this safety issue.
There is an srs airbag warning light on the dashboard that used to intermittently display. Now it is on consistently when the vehicle is driven. It is due to a circuit failure or a broken cord leading to the driver side middle row seatbelt airbag. Directly from site: https://Ford. Oemdtc. Com/1203/air-bag-warning-light-illuminated-with-dtc-b141b-b141c-2014-2016-Ford-explorer TSB 16-0001 air bag warning light illuminated with diagnostic trouble code (dtc) b141b and/or b141c this is not normal wear and tear but a safety item design by Ford that has failed in the vehicle. Ford dealership claims that this is not warranty failure. But sounds like an electrical and safety issue to me. . . Which should be covered under warranty. The truth to the matter is. . . Ford does not care that a potentially high risk problem has been identified as a failure on the company's end but they don't care enough to do anything about it. Well. . Other than charge the customer close to $1000 out of pocket to fix for a poor design on Ford's end. The Ford dealership service department does not know how this safety feature broke. If we were to get in an accident while the airbag is in this state, it would not deploy and the lives of all passengers in jeopardy!.
Within 10 days of buying it brand new I've had electrical problems. Replaced back up screen within those 10 days even though they didn't find anything wrong. Still continues. Multiple issues with the power train. Now I've been out of a car for 2 weeks because I might need a new transmission at 65,000 no longer under warranty. How can I pay $38,000 and it goes bad instantly? no help from Ford or dealer. My gears are stalling and not shifting correctly or picking up speed. I drive like an old lady and take care of this car like it's brand new. I will never buy a Ford again and will tell anyone who will listen not to do the same.
On August 20, 2020, my vehicle had last been driven around 12 noon. It sat in the driveway with all of us home. My son went to get in the vehicle around 6:30 pm. Smoke poured out, the seat was smoldering and flames came up. We couldn't put the fire out with extinguisher. Fire department put hose on seat. Firemen stated they see this often with heated/airconditioned seats that malfunction and burn up or cause fire. Firemen stated they could tell the way it looked "like all the other heated /air conditioned seats that ignite that they see often". Insurance company says car is totaled since hose was put on it. Ford will not work with me. No one left anything burning in the seat or smoked in the car. I believe the car heated/air conditioned seat malfunctioned and Ford should help. I had purchased bumper to bumper warranty from dealership. Warranty company says if a car catches fire, warranty is voided, even if car malfunctioned causing the fire. Insurance company is trying to pay as least amount as possible. This was a well cared for, very nice car. I believe it malfunctioned. Ford motor company sent me a letter saying they had the dealership take pictures, and they feel it had something left burning on the seat. No one left anything burning on the seat. In the letter Ford motor company sent me by email, they state they inspected the car. They never came to see the car in person. They only had the service staff take pictures. The car was sitting in the driveway all afternoon. I also backed out of the driveway in my Subaru at 5:00 pm and did not smell or see smoke as I left. . The passenger seat that ignited itself had a stack of business papers and some soccer gear that could have overheated if the seat was malfunctioning too. The seat ignited by itself. As a consumer I deserve to be assisted. I would like the car repaired or replaced w/similar car.
Saturday June 20th 2020 the hill assist message came on as did the abs and traction control lights came on. There is no power steering and both axles are making a clicking noise. I have learned that this is the rack and pinion electronic power assist system. Epas unit has failed. Luckily it was in my cul DE sac turning around and not on the freeway. My wife predominantly drives this vehicle. The steering is very difficult to move. The vehicle only has 64,000 miles on it. Is this a private recall? I have spoken with a couple of other Explorer owners that Ford "took care of it" for them. I have ordered the part, but it will not be there for a week. This car is well taken care of and is normally driven on city streets and occasionally on the highway.
Airbag warning light appeared on instrument gauge @ approx 65,000 miles. The concern is for the rear seat restraint systems that have airbags built into the seatbelt shoulder straps. This design flaw by Ford motor CO has resulted in faulty wire harness systems for the seat belt airbags. Ford is not taking action because there is no official "recall" even though this is a well known design defect. Ford is leaving the responsibility up to consumers to pay out-of-pocket for this repair @ a $660. 00 cost!!! this is absolutely unacceptable as we are talking about arguably the most important safety feature of a modern automobile. . . The airbags!!! Ford clearly cannot stand behind their own products from a safety standpoint, so consumers such as myself are forced to pay the $660. 00 charge in order to protect the passengers (often children in our scenario) in the backseat or take the deathly risk of safety airbags not deploying in an accident scenario? you've got to be kidding me. Extremely shameful and disappointing that one of the biggest automobile manufacturers in the world cannot stand behind it's own safety products. This needs to be issued a recall pronto. . . This is people's safety we are talking about here!.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Explorer. The contact stated upon conducting a routine inspection of the vehicle, he noticed that the battery had leaked onto the terminal connector and the terminal connector was severely rusted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the battery and the terminal connector were replaced; however the failure reoccurred. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the battery and the terminal connector needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 36,421.
Issues started with several electrical glitches that occurred and still occur consistently with no resolution. Battery was "fried" and replaced, sync module was replaced, now the glitches include a frozen steering column while driving and a "charging system service now" light that comes on and off while stationary and driving. Also passenger side view mirror gets stuck outwards, interior electrical malfunctions. Truck is no longer under warranty and I am tired of paying $150 diagnostic fees with no resolution.
At approx 48,000 miles, airbag light came on. Car was not moving, was parked for 9 hours after a day of work. Nothing hit, no impact. Ford dealer diagnosis: airbag harness/connector issue traced back to rear passenger seat behind driver. 1. 5 days work and $478. 93 charge, not a warranty or recall repair. Airbag circuit inoperative. Fix is per tsb16-0001. I am keeping the parts the dealer is replacing. Requires removal of rear seats/replace/splice connector. Dealer not forgiving.
2016 Ford Explorer - the backup camera will come on while traveling down the highway at 55-60 mph. Will cause it to loose power, the rpm's drop right below 1000, the wrench symbol comes on, and it will barely move down the road. A screen will pop up on occasion saying hill assist is unavailable. You have to pullover, turn the car off, open the driver door to make sure the radio and all goes off, wait exactly one minute, and then you are able to crank the vehicle up to be able to move. I have taken to dealership, and all they say is it's a sensor inside the transmission, and all they can do is clear the code out. They say that it is saying my vehicle is trying to engage in reverse while going down the road. This sounds like a huge safety issue especially when I have had others say the same thing has happened to them as well. I have reached out to the dealership in regards to my warranty, but I have yet to hear back from them, and it has been over 2 weeks. I have also reached out to the sales representative several times, and I have yet to hear from him. I contacted them because while looking at the paperwork it said it had a limited power train warranty, but it was purchased as a pre-certified used vehicle with an unlimited power train warranty they were offering for vehicles with lest than 80,000 miles. I have not had it a year yet. I have an email from the sales rep himself stating that it is unlimited. It was purchase in September of 2018.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Explorer. While driving 20 mph, the instrument panel lights flashed on and off. The contact also stated that the rearview camera was not functioning properly. The vehicle was taken to dublin Hyundai (located at 6015 scarlett CT, dublin, CA 94568, (925) 803-7700), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 53,000.
2016 Ford Explorer. Consumer writes in regards to inadvertent opening or closure of rear cargo door. The consumer stated when the rear cargo door inadvertently closes it strikes the occupant on the head or back.
Loss off power steering and stability control.
94000 miles the transfer case burst and when 70000 miles charging cycle does not work , the vehicle suddenly stops.
Navigation and radio screen keeps going out or turning black rear passenger door lock won't lock or unlock.
1. Right rear passenger heated seat suddenly stopped working. The light turns on briefly but shuts off. I have seen multiple complaints about this issue but not on this site. 2. Front cameras became fogged this winter and are useless now showing a cloudy screen. 3. Every time I put the vehicle in gear I get a message stating park aid fault check park aid #1 and #3 are known problems and have happened to multiple owners of 2016 Ford Explorers.
Tl- the contact owns a 2016 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the steering column locked as the steering column warning light illuminated. The contact pulled the vehicle to the side of the highway, pressed the ok on the dashboard and was able to resume normal driving. The contact also stated that while driving at 55 mph and hauling a trailer, the hill start assist not available warning light illuminated on the vehicle. The contact pressed the ok button and the warning light disappeared. The abs, steering fault service now, and service track warning lights have all illuminated on the vehicle at various times while driving the vehicle. In these instances, the contact would again press the ok button and the warning light would again disappear. The contact took the vehicle to sunnyvale Ford 650 e el camino real, sunnyvale, CA 94087 408-215-9949 where he was informed that the repairs to the vehicle would cost $400. 00. After a diagnostic was performed, they determined that the warning light illumination was linked to a faulty battery. The dealer wanted to test the vehicle's trailer hitch cable to determine if that cable was linked to a these failure. Upon his diagnostic, he determined that the steering rack was the cause for the system failure and gave the contact an estimate for the repairs. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 32,000. Jo.
On a city street experience loss of accelerating power while coming to stop and crossing an intersection the vehicle will star at a snail pace bringing up the speed to 40 mph on limp mode since the vehicle service wrench tool and air bag light up on the dash board vehicle will not respond pushing down on the gas pedal.
I was driving on the nys thruway around 70-75mph and the car decelerated to 55mph then was like in a coast mode. The wrench light came on and it said see manual. I pushed the pedal all the way to the floor and it would not go any faster. I was able to coast to the side of the road. I turned car off and then turned it back on and pushed ok to the see manual. I was then able to drive it. We could of been killed if someone was behind me. I brought in to dealer and said they really didn't find anything wrong or see any info on the computer when car was hooked up. Very scary as I have read online more people have had this happen to them.
The car was weak to start for 2days. . Day 3@ 5am I pushed the key 2xs to start my 2016 for Explorer from inside my house. It didn't start so I got inside the car & pushed the start button, it made clicking sound then said system shutting down! later that. Afternoon I looked under hood & battery acid was everywhere. The motor craft battery exploded!.
Tl the contact owns a 2016 Ford Explorer. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning and lost power. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to steve rogers Ford (located at 9760 OH-64, waterville, OH 43566, (419) 878-8151) to be diagnosed. The mechanic was unable to retrieve a fault code or duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent and primarily occurred during hot, humid weather with the air conditioning activated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 72,400.
While driving on the freeway (75 mph), several alerts popped up out of nowhere - hill assist error, steering control error, terrain assist error, stability error. It told me to pull over immediately. Once I stopped my car and restarted it, my power steering was no longer working. This has happened twice now - both times on the freeway. It's extremely dangerous to have steering go out - I'm concerned for the safety of the vehicle. The Ford dealership is telling me that I need to replace the electric steering component for $2,000. The car has less than 50,000 miles on it, so it doesn't make sense that the steering component would already need replacing.
Originally I had a light coming on when driving down the road saying "steering fault service now" it would come on and go off or occasionally I would have to pull over and restart my truck to reset. After about a week I started having multiple lines come on at one time flashing at me while driving saying "service advance trac, hill start assist not available, service advance trac and steering fault service now". When these lights come on I lose all power steering in my vehicle and I'm unable to steer at all. This has happened multiple times and it has become extremely unsafe to drive. It has always been while driving, but other than that I see no rhyme or reason or other factors that are the same when the lights have came on. I took my truck to my mechanic to look at and he found online that this is an issue many people are blogging about and complaining about. He hooked my truck up to the computer but could not get any type of error code to come back and suggested I follow up with Ford to have them look at it but also suggested that I contact someone to see if this has some type of recall because in his words "this is going to kill someone". I have checked but no recalls have been made as of now but did see there was a very similar problem in the 2011-2013 Explorers and a recall was made. I have an appointment this week for my truck to go to the Ford dealership to be looked at but feel strongly that this is something that needs to be recalled now on the 2016 Ford Explorer. I have 2 young drivers that occasionally drive my vehicle, if one of them were to drive it when the steering went out, I don't want to think what could have happened. This is to serious to ignore and I see to many complaints from other people online so I know this is not something that only I am going through. Please recall these vehicles and have this checked.
I bought my Ford Explorer 2 years ago brand new and everys since I bought it I have had headaches. Dizziness while driving and electrical problems with it. My husband has also been treated for headaches and we believe it is from our Ford, we don't have these issues until we are in the car for long periods of time. The dashboard goes blank a lot and it loses power.
Dash/speedometer went black - heat and air system inoperable - no turn signals - power decreased and power steering not fully functioning. All of this happened when I placed the car in park and realized the radio and interior lights were not automatically shutting off so I restarted the car and still nothing. Dealership recommended disconnecting the battery - this did fix part of the problems but the synch health report is still not showing completlely clear and the check engine light came on then went off after driving a few miles . Concerned if it is safe to drive especially if this is a possible electrical problem - car is just at 23k miles and also had to have throttle body replaced at aroud only 3k miles. Not feling safe in the car at this point.
