I went to open my back window and it broke I have had many other problems with my SUV I was parked in a parking lot.
Rear liftgate window on my 2003 Ford Explorer Sport exploded into a million pieces. The vehicle was parked in my driveway and I went to open the door and it just exploded.
Passenger side door handle broke only opens from inside. Passenger rear door only opens from outside. Drivers side rear only opens from outside. 3 out of 4 doors do not work properly. This is a safety issue. I have small children who are in rear car seats and can't get them out if emergency!!! this should be recall with this many complaints on same model and because it poses safety issue.

Started my vehicle it made a clunking noise then died. The timing chain broke and broke all the vavles off the motor.
While opening my rear hatch window to load groceries I noticed the top right hinge had detached from the car, leaving the glass hatch hanging by a single hinge. When I got home I googled the problem and discovered recall #04s20 and mentioned it to my dealer when I took my car in for servicing. They said my car was not included, so I called Ford and they agreed. Even though the recall specifies "all Ford explorer models" they say mine is the 2-door "sport" edition and so isn't included even though the hatch is identical (I've owned both). This is an expensive repair and this is the 2nd time I've had this problem (the other hinge broke 2 years ago). I'd appreciate it if you could determine if the 2-door models are sufficiently different that they can be exempted from this recall, and if they should be included tell me how to proceed. Thank you, doug nelson.
Liftgate glass hinges both broke causing glass to fall off of rear door and now glass cannot be opened. This is the same problem as the 2002-2003 Ford recall #04s20. Ref NHTSA campaign id number 04v442000. Ford does not include the 2004 explorer in their recall but the problem is the same.

All body bushings were defective and had to be replaced. The bushings were desiccated and had crumbled away. This made the vehicle unsafe when cornering as there was nothing to support the weight of the body between it and the frame causing excessive movement and compromise of center of gravity. According to the mechanic who replaced my bushings, he had seen this defect on all the vehicles of this make and model year. He said that it was not a problem on the 1998 Ford Explorer Sport. I went to a local junk yard and looked at several Ford Explorer Sports and noticed the same defect on all the 2001 model years. The 1998 model year had bushings that were still in good condition.
Defective body mounts and bushings. I am the owner of a 2004 Ford sport trac and was advised that the body mounts and bushings are deteriorated and crumbling. After researching the problem I discovered that this is a common problem with the sport trac years 2001-2005. This is a very serious problem as well as expensive to repair. I called a body shop and the parts are $1,695 with $720 for labor. The Ford dealership wants $1,882 for parts and $400 labor to replace 6 mounts even though the vehicle has eight (8). Ford should be made to recall these vehicles and replace the parts (that should last the life of the vehicle). Evidently not enough serious injuries or death has occurred to make this happen, so they just quit production as a cheaper way out. Shame on Ford to not take care of their customers.
Severe clanking/banging noise in passenger rear. Replaced shocks. Noise worsened. Researched and found numerous complaints regarding body mounts with Ford Explorer Sport vehicles. Upon investigation - reaching up under vehicle found no "body insulator left on passenger side rear and on driver rear the insulator crumbled like dirt and fine powder. The body mounts appeared to be manufactured of a foam like material - substandard at best! replacement parts must be purchased through Ford since no other aftermarket parts are available. Parts only (that being able to salvage the bolts and sleeves) and purchase the two pair of insulators only - $680. 00. The same material that failed and should not. There are vehicles on the road with body mounts for 40 to 50 years. This is a manufacturer's responsibility and the cost for these parts is thievery. It is unsafe to operate a vehicle without repairing defective body mounts due to the possibility of body roll or other loss of control. Since the mounts should not fail throughout the life of the vehicle I sincerely request an investigation be launched into the multiple complaints being filed for the years 2001-2003 Ford Explorer Sport body mounts.
Lift gate window hinge broke scratching the paint and hurting my hand catching it so it would not break the other hinge. Called Ford the first time this happen and they say its not part of the recall which I cant figure out since this is the third time this has happen to me since I'm the owner of my 02 Explorer Sport and found out this happen to the original owner once. Something has to be done! I research this on line and see many other explorer owners with the same problems and the same story come on lets do something about this!!!!.

The back end bumps and thumps like there is no padding between the metal on metal parts. Very loud in the vehicle always.
Safety recall l05s28 (speed control system deactivation. Recall was made in August 2007. We are still waiting on the service parts to make the repair. Ford sent notice in September that they have a shortage of these parts and we could have the device disconnected. We don't want the device disconnected, we want the repair to be made. It has been 7 months waiting on this repair. Are we to wait forever for this repair to be made?.
Driver side door will not open. Appears to be stuck in the lock position. Have read numerous websites that it is a defective spring from ace lock CO.

Rear window hinges failed on one side of the vehicle requiring both hinges that holds the rear window glass in place to be replaced. Dealer was able to repair hinges but the rear window is now unable to be opened due to latch being damaged by hinges and dealer informed me that they could not fix the latch that was attached to the rear window. They referred me to a glass repair shop to do the repair.
My purchased new $30,000 2001 Ford 2 door Explorer Sport dies often causing no brakes or steering. In 2001, it died and rolled over with no steering or brakes when my wife was driving home, leaving her stranded upside down. Ford would not respond and local dealers would not or could not solve the problem. It still dies and all recalls were presumably done, including the firestone tires which were the best part of the vehicle. Numerous letters to Ford were never acknowledged. I would like to have a refund on this vehicle. Can you help me?.
